Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy isn't Dying, its Already Dead!!

I am in that insane batch that thought PS2 era was low point for the series and XIII and XIII-2 were enjoyable to me and looking forward to Lightning Returns. Has it seen better days? Yeah, but gave up on SNES glory ever coming back. I just look at it as a game, and fine with that without massive Final Fantasy expectations.

You want dead? Ask me where my Grandia, Breath of Fire and Suikoden games are?!

This has nothing to do with Final Fantasy and all to do with Motomu Toriyama. If this article is anything, it's a sign that he should be made redundant immediately. They need new directors, or old ones, Ito should do another FF game.

Then, if by dead they mean still selling crap loads....

This is correct. Toriyama and his piece of shit Anime storylines for Final Fantasy and 3rd Birthday are just insult to the stuff before it. Anime story in Final Fantasy !?!?

A franchise so dead that it still sells millions.

Unfortunately is not dead.

Nintendo and PC gamer

I'll decide this after I've played FF XV. Unlike XIII-3 that game looks really promising imo.

The thing is: Keep it simple.
Final Fantasy is getting too complicated for its own good, turn back to basics: modest hero, finding companions one by one, traveling in a world, them vehicles, then better weapons, then misteries.
Keep it humble, keep it slow, less crazyness, less crazy clothing: focus on a fun game for once.

Or, keep this in mind: when making a game, REMEMBER CHRONO TRIGGER.

So go back to 90's is your answer which actually happen's to be reason the JRPG's are suffering now.

No. I was playinf FF13-2 last week and my head almost explode, there were 8 people on the screen talking at the same time, tons of lingo that I had to focus really hard to get and a lot o stuff happening at the same time, a freaking chaos.

I was like, Jesus Christ, give me a break, let me breath.

Just, keep it simple, just that.

I said Chrono because it was a simple game:

- the battles were fought, not watched

- You learn about characters one at a time;

- Itens were just itens, you trade the worst for the better and that is it

- The history starts simple and THEN, it evolves.

FF these days, is a crazy mess, then they handhold us because they know the game is too crazy for a normal person to understand.

It is still good, like, I was playing FF13-2 and all of sudden I was surprise when I realize this: the last 15 minutes were fun, I liked it.

I mean, they can do cool stuff, but they need guidance, they need a north. And the NORTH, in my opinion, must be this: KEEP IT SIMPLE. LESS IS MORE.

Then, and only then, you can add misteries, super weapons, side quests, stuff that, IF I WANT, I can get myself more deep into.

Just that.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Lightning got a boob job?!? Awesome! I hated FFXIII because her boobs were too small.

Starting with 6 they all had anime stories (6 had anime character arch types).  Crazy liquid energy being the core of the world, crazy time traveling witches, Zidane, some guy who's an illusion getting turned into a creature of destruction, ... (12's story was decent until the focus changed to elder gods), Final Fantasy XIII (All of it).  The problem is that technology kept on letting them get closer to anime instead of text based story telling.  I mean Final Fantasy 15 looks just as much as an anime as Final Fantasy XIII is.  There's also the fact that anime in general are becoming more exagerrated and Final Fantasy is wrongfully keeping up with it.  I should also mention that we all love Final Fantasy because of their crazy stories that have no ground in reality at all (Which is the strength of anime story telling).

When I say Anime. I mean like Naruto level. FF13 has a storyline out of a shonen manga. FF6 FF7( only original) 8,9,10,12 did not have that shonen tone that 13 carries. Art direction is not a problem.

Oh yes they did.  Tidus and Zell were the loud mouthed goof balls like Naruto.  Squall ,Cloud, and Amarant where the quiet lone wolves, like Sasuke.  Tifa had the Sakura archtype, minus the inner yelling.  Freya and Lulu were the female quiet type character like Sasuke (They generally have them fancy glasses on).   Art direction isn't a problem, it's the series' strongest aspect.  Technology just let them give you anime motions and voice acting (I mean, looking at Tidus animations now...)
