I think it depends on the retailer. My local ASDA has a pretty kick-ass videogame section really; and last time I checked it (about a month ago) they had a full complement of Vita; 3DS & Wii-U hardware and software. Haven't checked it recently, next time I'm near it I might pop in and see what the situation is now.

But they're definitely more than just a food retailer with a tiny game section in the corner =/

Well, so does mine. Top 15 games for all systems, bar the Vita (none) and Wii U (shared with Wii). Though, that has shrunk from Top 25 and half the space which was there is now shared with other stuff, like DVD's.

Though I agree. Sometimes Iforget ASDA does food with all the other stuff in it!

Think of them less like Kroger and more like the Walmart Supercenters that have a lot of food.

I doubt this is all ASDA stores. The reason being is that ASDA stores range from 25,000sqft (small) to 120,000sqft (large) Most US Big Box stores are, in contrast, are 175,000sqft to 200,000sqft.

Target offers the smallest big-box store, with Wal-Mart offering the largest big-box stores.

Unlike the US and Canada where a company like Wal-Mart typically finds it easy to expand, in the UK it is very difficult. I mean there's a Wal-Mart in Mexico built on Mayan ruins, and they attempted to build a store on a Civil War battlefield. For them, it's easy to build and if necessary expand.

In the UK, there rarely is the room and often when there is there is significant resistance to it. So, some ASDA's will likely lose merchandise if it doesn't sell significantly well. However, I doubt the larger stores will cease it.

Interesting! Shame they built wal marts on Mayan ruins in Mexico :(

Despite their attempts to prove otherwise, Wal-Mart is not a great company.  Not that other companies can't do shitty things either, but Wal-Mart has effectively destroyed towns and even the livelihoods of people.

Yes, people save money, but they do so at a significant cost.

Pft, that's nothing.  Coke actually outright muders people.

Nobody buys game systems from ASDA.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

"The retailer is not stocking 3DS systems online either - despite the handheld outselling the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the UK and across the US, while 3DS software sales are outperforming the competition too."

You missed a bit.

So are we allowed to put Asda in the group of people Nintendo Fans must hate? You know, the one with EA.

Well, no one in their right mind likes WalMart. But I'll let you have your fun.

(I agreed with Turkish that Mario Kart: Double Dash is the best MK. Then again, anyone in their right mind knows that.)

Their mistake. They'll miss the rebound.

I...I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about

However, this newest article makes this seem like much less of a blow than before.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Thats a massive over simplification

Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury have a significant presense in the VG market.  Major grocers in the UK arent just food stores... not even close. they sell everything from beans to televisions.

First you say you have never heard of them and then you tell me that it isnt important.  You are wrong, it is important.

Alright!

Drama! The sky is falling! This food seller represents close to 100% of the sales of Nintendo consoles! Dooom and gloom!!

There, i gather that fits your style better.
