Ahhh brings back the memories :)
I may actually buy this game just for the next-gen graphics. It's just so shiny!

The game really is beautiful. And not purely because of it's graphical technicality. But, because of it's overall scope, environment, colors, and creativity. There is so much effort put into the Pikmin games, and it really shows.
Some really really low res textures on the ground. Surely they can at least bump map better than that???

i bet Nintendo decided to do that so we can see the pikmin without any interferience. If you take a look at Super Mario 3D World the grass is moving and good looking.

It was most likely due to them porting the game from Wii to Wii U during development. That was just left over, I guess.

I guess that's possible but the point is you are never that close to the ground while playing anyway. The textures are probably designed to look good at what is the normal viewing distance most of the time, which they do. For the most part It's only when in the photo mode that it's possible to that close to the ground.

Agreed; it's the art that makes the game really shine; the creative creature designs, the vibrant colours, the use of scale to show familiar objects and settings in an unfamiliar way, like fighting a slug fifty times your size in a sand pit, which turns out to be only a small hole in the sand of a tropical beach, with massive palm trees looming overhead and sparkling waves crashing in the background.
