Forums - Nintendo - Rodea the Sky Soldier is kicking - 3DS version is 70% done, took a long time to adapt Wii game to portable, gives BS answer for no updates

Yuji Naka’s long lost game is still under development

You might remember Rodea the Sky Soldier, a game who heavily reassembles the original Nights: into Dreams but with a more action approach that was announced around the Nintendo 3DS reveal, two and half a years ago. Developed by Yuji Naka’s Prope in collaboration with Kodowaka Games, it was intended to release for Nintendo 3DS and Wii.

Not much more is known about the game, since it flew below the radar pretty fast,in part thanks of the Nintendo 3DS being so young then and the death of the Wii.  Since then, not much was known about the game development. Some time ago, Yuji Naka himself revealed that the Wii version of the game was finished a long time ago, but it was unpublished because Kadowaka Games had still not published it.

That, along with the lack of news about the 3DS version and the amount of other games Prope was working on, like the Digimon RPG for PSP and, more recently, the Nintendo 3DS new Mii Plaza Monster Manor minigame Prope has developed, made everyone thing about the more than probable cancellation of the flying action game.

But seems like the hope of seeing it in our consoles is not over yet. Today, Kodowaka Games president Yoshimi Yasuda revealed in an interview to 4Gamer that the project is not only alive and kicking, but that the Nintendo 3DS version is at a 70% of development. Since the Wii game is heavily based on it’s Wiimote controls, they are still looking for a perfect way to adapt those controls to the portable gaming console, but they are working on it, and we will hear about the game very soon. also, he points that the lack of news about the game is because the gaming media press is just not interested on it ( really?).

Meanwhile we still dream about those familiar blue skies and hope to see it not only released, but also available overseas, you can refresh your mind watching the reveal trailer of the game, from two years ago.

Seems cool I was looking forward to this game back when they first showed it off.

Unfortunately this game wasn't ready before Nintendo decided to stop the Wii support, I would much prefer playing it on the Wii than on 3DS. Anyway, great to see that at least one version of it will be released, I was looking forward to this game when it was announced but I had completely forgot about it till now thanks to the lack of news.

Nope, announced as a Wii and 3DS title.

He is right, a original IP Japanese game for the 3DS not by one of the major publisher? Few major game outlets are going to really go out of their way to get info.

Wonder if the Wii version will ever be released. Same if it isn't since the game was designed around Wii's motion controls.
