Forums - Sony - PS4 RAM drama?

5.5GB GDDR5 is plenty for 1080p rendering considering the power of other hardware components and bandwidth speeds. I hope devs don't use MSAA too much with it though, filter AA solutions would work much better considering the frame rate could double compared to using MSAA and most people won't be able to tell the difference.

I'll wait for an official statement from Sony on this.

Yeah... though I dunno if we'll see it... maybe a tweet from some bigwig..

who was it that initally said that PS4 OS use = 1GB? Sony?

We need Cerny for explanation.... NOW

I haven't seen any of the IGNs or JoyStiqs of the world report this yet, so I until I see something a bit more official I'll remain skeptical.

That being said, remembering that the PS3 only had 512 MB and more and more was freed up for games over time, I don't think this is a big deal. Games have up to 5.5 GB available to them on launch day. Over time in the generation, both the games and OS will be updated to be more efficient.

I guess they are going to add a lot more features to the UI if they are cutting the ram so significantly. Not to sure how I feel about this.

A quick google search and this is what I came up with. Sony never went into detail about the memory allocation for the PS4.

In any case, I'd wait for a response from Sony before jumping the gun.

I am BRILLIANT!

CONFIRMED!

But he was right. The drama was in this thread.

So many people got happy and then got dissappointed.

I don't understand why people would be happy if a certain console is downgraded (thankfully that's not the case). It's still a bad thing and gamers would be negatively affected. I'm not suggesting I've seen any posts here that point to that, but definitely in the Gaf thread that inspired this one.

It's sad to see that gamers are now fanboys in their majority.

I was actually surprised to see what the GAF thread became, I thought this would happen here but not there.

Just remember how everyone celebrated the fact that xbox one was receiving bad reception from everyone. We wouldn't be here "complaining" about sony having "only" 4.5GB of memory if they didn't need to compete with anyone else in the market...
