I can see this is a great idea, let people (if they can) develop for themselves but I just don't get MS, why not tell us this earlier? Why allow all the bad press about Indies?

This one small article does not say they are reversing their policies on indie developers, if they knew this was going to be a part of the Xbone why not tell the indies and have their support?

Because they will develop this ideia in the future... it was not part of the plan after all.

"But not at launch. Microsoft's Marc Whitten just told us that devkit functionality will be added at a later date."

That 180 seems good and all, but it seriously is a lot at 6 months from release.

And as it comes later, this devkit functionality might only let you access to high level programming and not optimize anything. Smells like XBLIG

That's inline with what CBOAT leaked yesterday.

"yuh .INDYianaJONESTHAPOOR wil graci8uos alloowd tpoo publishjthru the Wni8 store geto butBUT wait4it limted to 3gigs mem,nt full. sory! comnce to yeling atme, xbotz"

Transalation: "Indies allowed to self-publish if they use less than 3GB and only through the Windows 8 store ghetto."

Damn Microsoft has been copying so much from Sony.

And just to you guys... this is a feature that can make me buy a Xbone later... I'm not so bad guy

Because I don't think they were expecting Sony to have such an open approach with Indies. They probably just started talking about this after hearing what Sony was doing.

Maybe, however knowing my own industry, we hear from our clients what our rivals are giving them to try and get us to go with them instead. You don't think indie devs would have said at some point during certain negotiations 'Sony is offering...'? I think the same would occur, unless the Sony thing is a very recent thing.

@ethomaz

Thanks just read the post above.

Hmm, pie.

Do you support the company that follows or the company that leads?

The PS5 Exists.

MORE.

UPDATE: Don't worry—Microsoft assures us that self-published indie games won't be relegated to the wasteland of the Xbox Live Indie Marketplace. There will be one big area to access all kinds of games, Whitten says.

"My goal is for it to just show up in the marketplace," he told us. "Of course there will be different pivots inside of that. There will be everything from what are we curating, kind of like spotlight content, to the normal discoverability stuff like recommendations, what's trending, what's got a lot of engagement on the platform. And you'd be able to find that content in any of those. There wouldn't be any difference based on what type of game it was. Then of course there will be other type of pivots where you can go and look at whether its a genre of game or any other. But you shouldn't think of it as there's an indie area and a non-indie area."

Hey gusy, just so you know, the concept of self-publishing was not invented by sony.
