Forums - Sony - PlanetSide 2 On PS4 Is 'Basically PC Version On Max Settings'

I thought that even the most powerful gaming rigs aren't able to run this game max settings and maintain a steady framerate.

They aren't.   Because the game doesn't properly allow multicore threading.  If it did... it'd be pretty easy to run this at max framreate with max settings.

Which is what they are planning to fix in the port.

It's a demadning game... but only because of developer inadequcy.  If it were programmed correctly it would run on much weaker hardware.

Why did it take so long for someone to bring this up? Surprised more people don't know PS2 runs horribly because of this.

That's the best part about the new consoles. Since ports are going to be so easy now, look forward to even more optimisation on PC as well, hopefully...

It is! Ethomaz was again in his special state where he leaves reality and makes a post out of this world (no offense!) but he usually comes back fast to mother earth. :)

My post is accurate... sorry if it hurts you... PS4 can handle any * I say any * game released on PC today in 1080p60 in max setthings.

Sorry if it hurts you but usually people have to prove their claims. You can't because you hide your proof in "optimization".

Take a look at this setup. The CPU is ages away from what Xbone and PS4 have and the GPU is also stronger, leave aside he also overclocked it. And now look at the framerates... Really ethomaz, there is no need to put up a comparison between PC and consoles. These are two totally different domains. They always were and will always be. This doesn't hurt me or anyone, comparisons to PCs are useless.

And until 2015? This was the biggest laugh today :D

You ARE hurt. I don't see ethomaz making unrealistic claims and end 90% of his sentences with "i don't care", which seems to be a trademark of yours! And lol at the bold part. Laughing at what you don't understand, is all because of your strong bias to be able to belive anything you don't want to see.

But go ahead, continue your claims to everyone about your superior knowledge. If you try hard enough you just might get there someday ;)

Why should I be hurt, somini? While saying some things in one of your threads where you think you could act like a mod? I can assure you, I am not.

My technical education, knowledge and understanding is way bigger than what you have, I never saw you contributing things of knowledge in any technical discussion. So what bias do I have now? A pc-bias? :D

You are the one who definitely has no idea what he is talking about and even ethomaz, the one I told many technical things on this site but you might believe more is also doubting your claim.

But go on, prove your claim. With numbers, benchmarks, whatever. Stand up for your point, argue for it, instead of getting personal which is report-worthy but I am not like you :)

wulsufnir loves these threads about ps4 and graphics, he always the first in line to comment and downplay ps4. Its is personal obsession.

Wrong - I love technical threads and try to inform people that consoles are not wonders made by god but have given specs which can be judged.

Oh i have noticed that. It's no secret he does that in every PS4 related topic. Some people just like to pretend to know stuff!

But let's get back on topic,

I would really like to see this thread revived 2 years from now, so we can see if PS4 have been able to keep with PC games till that time. I suspect after that though that consoles will be outdated when compared to high end PC games, graphicaly of course.

Thing is you don't have that many developers that push the envelope on PC gaming, simply because not a lot of people have such expensive rigs and a lot of the ones who do have that, are pirates! So consoles graphics are always close to the max you see on PC games, in the first years of a consoles life at least. And even after that the difference is not too much, like it technically should be possible.

That's a pretty old version, the new menus don't even look like that, are you able to find a more recent benchmark to compare? Will the PS4 version also have PhysX type support we see in the PC version?

PS4 have PhysX support but I don't know if this game will use...

This is from April build: http://youtu.be/bq7w1ktn2Ek

- First these specs are not ages away from PS4...
- Second this forum thread didn't deny what I said... otherwise it just added power to my claim "any released game run in 1080p60 on max setthings in PS4"...
- Third PS4 GPU didn't exists in any PC videocard yet... it is years ahead yet... maybe next AMD generation GPUs.

PS4 will run game with in 1080p60 par with the highest single AMD GPU out in the market.

Another bench with a HD 7850... June 2012 build.

Same results than october 2012 benchs.

What I can say? This graph is really accurate even for today builds.

And to support my clain that next-gen console development will help PC games to rise for a new graphical level... any PS4 optimization for multi-core will help PC games too.

While I don't agree with Ethomaz, that the PS4 can run any game any PC can run at 60 FPS (why isn't Killzone running at 60 FPS). Crysis 3 for instance is multithreaded extremely well and is one of the only games that can take advantage of I7's hyperthreading.

I agree that the multithreading is going to raise the bar of the general games, and is how the X1 and PS4 are going to come up with power to outproduce games on PC in the 7850-7870 range, and beyond.

Once again.   Planestide 2 does not properly multi-thread currently.  On a 4 core PC they run everything through 1 core, while the other 3 cores tend to reach 25% optimization if your lucky.

They are putting in the extra work now because the game as it is wouldn't even run on PS4 on it's lowest settings... everything would be pushed off to a "single" core CPU wise.

Generally PC games have been doing multi-core already... consoles are just catching up.  Planetside 2 is just a very odd exception that one shouldn't draw any paralels from.
