Sometimes, like Beethoven's later Symphonies,  they are so far ahead that it takes society a while to catch up.  (Looking at you tablet PC's years before an ipad.)

Yeah, and Da Vinci invented the helicopter!

In a way yea, but also the machine gun, a whole bunch of other things.

I get sad when I think about what would have happened if Bill Gates and Alan Turning had a chance to work and create together.  Screw homophobia!

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Nikola Tesla did indeed invent the Death Ray, but he destroyed it because he feared what mankind would have done with it. Da Vinci did invent helicopters too, but chose the same path!

Anything this guy says is completely biased, he worked under Microsoft...

i agree with the man

they were actually so far ahead that they had to paddle back to get in line with the consumers expectations.

Lulz, this.

We will see in time.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I would say they are more on par with one another, I wouldn't technically say either Sony or MS are ahead of one another. Maybe ahead of Nintendo in terms of hardware strength but I think these comments are based towards Sony.

well I have a certain 2007 hour and half video from All things D with a certain job and gates dudes talking, and Gates is the one with the tablet and the one saying the tablet is the future of personal computing..... the iPad was not revealed at that point.... that interview is absolutely legendary the 2 pioneers (among others of course) of the computer tech industry talking about their forecast 5 years from then is absolutely amazing to watch... they are almost spot on...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iITBqB_uJdI
the entire video is really interesting but the more current stuff is around 30-40 min

Not to set a burning match to gasoline, but the Xbox One is looking good.

Cool video! But I was refering more to Gate's work - way back in 2001 with tablets.  I think people forget that Gates and Jobs worked together on many, many things.

Really, I didn't get that.

I think they are referring to the fact that Microsoft has spent more money than any other company on research and development than any company in the history of the world.  There was a quote that they spent as much or more, than the R&D of All other Companies combined, but I don't know if that's just glamorizing or something true.

Just last year Microsoft spent 10 Billion dollars on research and development.  That is a tremendous amount of money.  I've heard the biggest complaint is that they don't know what to do with it sometimes, or just give up on things right before they are brilliant and popular. (That's how the spent a couple of billion dollars on kinect, before they even had it; and jumped when PrimseSince brought in their tech.)

By comparison, Sony post 67 Billion Yen loss in 2011.  (A Million yet in about $11868.98 in 2011).  So they just don't have as much to spend on research.

They are very different companies and do different things.  They overlap in gaming, and soon production, but work together on a number of other projects.

maybe not as much as all other company competing combined, but I know the last number I had (2012) MS was putting at least twice more in R&D than anybody else like google and apple (and twice was the minimum in comparisaon)

but yeah while they compete on some things they do work together on other.
