Forums - Sony - OPM lists the 9 things you will be taking for granted this time next year thanks to the ps4.

Why the hell point 8/9 don't matter to people? I very much wish every game would use as advanced mo-cap as Naughty Dog uses in it's games. In Uncharted and TLoU we have next-gen in animation already, they are fluid, realistic just adding more to the immersion. Or for example every game to have facial animations close to those presented in L.A.Noire, why wouldn't you want to see what the character feels just by a look at it's face. Of course this isn't entirely dependant on console hardware but mostly on middleware but still, if we would have Uncharted/Max Payne level animations or beyond in every game next-gen I would be extremely pleased.

I'm now playing Kingdoms of Amalur after finishing TLoU and both character and facial animations are a bad joke when compared, they look like silly dolls running, breaking the immersion as a result.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

It depends on the game and on the tech available: when tech allows it and dev tools are evolved enough to make it cost a reasonable amount of money and resources, it's good to have it, but in a limited resources scenario putting more resources in it makes sense if the game has a lot of close interactions with other characters, otherwise it's better to put resources in lighting first. And in no case, when resources are limited, it should subtract them from gameplay related features.

This said, it's not that we don't care about it: as soon as tech allows it at a reasonable cost and without subtracting resources from other features, it's welcome.

BTW you make a good point: devs should find resources for good body MO-CAP as soon as possible, that really affects gameplay and immersion in most games more than facial animation. Also, if the resources are limited, good MO-CAP should be preferred to high polygon count: well animated bodies and faces with mid-level detail look more natural and realistic than high-detail ones with poor animation. After all, SD TV programs with real people looked more natural and realistic than hi-res games with poor animation and not very realistic, although detailed, people, animals, plants and things models.

So IMVHO, as long as polygon count isn't really too low:

gameplay related features, including good lighting in many games > good body motion > good face motion > high polygon count (*)

(*) where with "high" I mean higher than current average HD games detail

5. UItra realistic lighting. ps4 power can achieve true photorealism

What will the next consoles do then?!? :-O

4. Massive Scale. Using Skyrim (which only focused on one region) of the world, on the ps4, it is possible to play on an entire continent.

Now you're talking

You listed reasons that I can mostly agree with, earlier you just said you don't care very much about it ;-P
