Makes sense, since it's busy recording the last several minutes of your pathetic life through Kinect. ;)

PS4: Seems like a waste of half a gig of RAM for just 7 minutes. Maybe it records 15 min in 720p?

PS4 didn't use the SytemRAM for this resource at all... that's what I read.

512 is a very "RAM-like" number to me, lol. It seems like a waste of memory even for just this feature in general, but if it's writing to disk, won't it slow down loading times and reduce HDD longevity? Or does it have a separate RAM module just to store video? That would best IMO.

yes and yes, but my cable box does the same with 2 hours of past view... the HDD in the PS4 will last alot more than 5 years (my last cable box had more than 5 years before they change it because of optic fiber, also Windows use the HDD to cache information ALL THE TIME and my work laptop is always read/writing and has more hours on his back than 3 or 4 consoles put together) and recording to HDD can use less than 10 mbps (just to get a sense of what that number is, a HDD present in PS3 can go higher than 120 mbps but the average is between 60 and 80 mbps and the bluray drive on ps3 reads 9mbps from a bluray disc) so the loading time will increase just a little bit. the ram will help the loading times to be low or even unnoticeable.

Is that really matter if it's 5/7/15mins when you can use direct stream(twitch/ustream) to streaming the game as long as you want then edit it in PC since both will record your streaming unless you turn off this feature

I gave you the fact that the one who said "several" was indeed a Sony-man which you of course didn't know before but whatever. The facts you gave are from february and I said several times, but this time especially for you again, perhaps you didn't read it the first times I already mentioned it, those things are subject to change. This is more a software-implementation than hardware so why should it be fixed forever so early? But given your choice of words "gave me nothing", "dream" it's best we won't argue ever again, no matter what the topic is.

You still got nothing. I expected much more from you. I am disappoint.

@bolded: Nope, I can't agree on that. I'll keep going at ya. If you don't like it, don't reply. Or you can go cry to a mod about it??

Oh my, DF...

PS. BTW I'm the Edmarcio Santos

This is clearly a software-issue. Both Sony and MS can expand this any time.
IMO they should ask the user how many GB of his HDD he wants to have used for recording game footage permanently.

You should have options for this, like "512MB, 1GB, 5GB, 10GB - pick one!" that should be more than enough and the Xbox One comes with a 500GB anyway, so that would not be a real space issue.

i'm not sure about MS but as i understand it the ps4 is using a dedicated chip/memory for video capture.  i think for them it is a hardware issue as nothing writes to the harddrive until you actually save a video from that buffer.

...also, 500Gb isn't going to be enough.  with the mandatory full game installs both systems require your going to quickly find (especially if you buy a MGS game @ ~50Gb) that 500 Gb won't last very long at all.  i'm personally going to swap out my drive the day i get my ps4.   i'll probably pick up 2 Tb.  ...but i'll probably still run out of space.  :(

Where did he say 15 minutes? If the number would've been fixed already why say "several" and not "15"? My point stands - it is subject to change and perhaps will even change when both consoles are released.

Sony said officially at 20th Feb this 15 minutes... after that this guys said the same thing on June.

http://youtu.be/o69hQQR-SEk

There is no other news about.

My point is: in the end no one will care what Cerny told in *february*. Would it be a problem if it would only be 7 minutes (other than the fact that it would be closer to what MS is saying they will offer to you)? Is this really an issue for you?

i think it will be 15 minutes, the officially stated 15M many times, also, this kind of thing is thought of and handled before. they just dont say "well lets record some gameplay footage" right at the end of creating the system. they probably wouldnt have stated 15 minutes if they didnt know the hardware can.

Is it variable? Like if I attached a 500gb HDD, can I have longer recording sessions?

OP change the thread tittle to "PS4 might record 7 minutes of gameplay because digital foundry may or may not heard something, shit isnt clear yet. ohh and some thing about xbox one DVR recording"
