So I finally got my mits on the long awaited Pikmin 3 yesterday at the Gamestop event for it. I arrived right on time for once, though as I figured it wasn't too necessary as it was for the E3 event, as there were only 5 or so people already there. While I was waiting, I noticed a guy playing M&L: Dream Team and was like "what that game came out already!?" But no it was actually just a demo which we all were able to try in addition to Pikmin 3, so that's pretty boss! Other regions might have these games already but atleast we're still able to play them. Anywho, let's talk Pikmin 3!
So first thing, the graphix! Afterall I could only watch as people were playing when I got there. The game... did not look like it was 1080p/60fps. It was glaring obvious that the E3 demos were 1080-60, but that wasn't the case here. Perhaps it was just the TV though, as Gamestop's TV was smaller than the one they had at Best Buy. Idk, I'll have another look today, but it's no big deal as either way the game looks great! Now for the actual gameplay itself. They only had the first mission from mission mode playable, which is kinda unfortunate since I really wanted to wreck at bingo battle, but I'm not complaining! Me and my partner dove right into it! As expected Pikmin 3 plays mostly the same as the previous games, except they took out the rally command where you direct your Pikmin where to go. I used that A LOT in the previous games, so you can imagine how awkward it was without it. I guess it's not as needed though since your Pikmin follow your exact path now, and there's the new lock on and swarm command. I tried out the latter move on a bulborb to see if the bum rush tactic was the best way to deal with these guys like in Pikmin1. Nope, still not a good idea as I learned the hard way lol. The best way is actually to target their eyes, as hitting them stuns em for a bit. Who woulda thought the best method is attacking the front? Anwho, the level is pretty much exactly the same as it was during E3 2012, so I guess I need not explains it. We were still trying to get used to the game n all that, so we didn't too hot on our first attempt, only coming away with 300 points. Later on, a couple managed to get the maximum of 1100, earning them a platinum medal. However, me and the rep managed to match that score and we did so a whopping 6 seconds faster, so ha! I also got the highest single player score with 630! I'm hoping to do much better than that today! :D
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team must have been a last minute decision by Nintendo, as they surely would have announced that the game would be playable aswell. Well regardless, I was able to play it! Demo had 4 options, being Real World gameplay, Dream World gameplay, Bowser Boss, and Giant Boss. I only got to play Real World and Bowser Boss, as whenever I got the game from someone else they were playing Real World, so I just continued from there, and whenever I got the game fresh I did Bowser battle. This is because they were saying how hard he was and I was like Bowser = hard? Impossible! But it was possible! The reason I did Bowser Boss three times was because that's how many times it took me until I was able to beat him! So glad I was able to leave without having not beaten him, as that would have really eaten at me! The real world was as you'd expect it to be if you played previous M&L games. There's nothing really significant I can remember about it, and I don't want to make this post too long so I wont go into detail, just know that it was good n fun!
In addition to demo'ing those games, I also wrecked face at MK7, got a nice number of streetpasses, and loads of swag, like a DKC bag that folds into a banana, iron-on Pikmin patches, and some other stuff I forgot about. Also the Nintendo rep that was here was the same one at Best Buy, so it was pretty cool meeting him again hehe. Hopefully I'll see him yet again today when I go back for moar!
