I believe his point is the article doesn't say "top selling home console in North America for the 30th straight month". Don't know if it's bias or just lazy reporting but either way it's misleading to those who only casually follow console sales.  Heck even some of the less well informed members of this forum have occasionally thought that reports of "Xbox 360 outsold PS3 for the month of..." thought that meant globally and that meant VGC numbers were way off for the month.

The other thing the article confuses is whether that's US pre-orders or global pre-orders. They don't contextualise pre-orders per se, they just say Xb one is pre-ordering ahead of 360. They say that US retailers are sold out of the day one edition, and on Amazon too. But Amazon isn't just a US site. I checked amazon.co.uk and it's still taking day one pre-orders, so I assume the sold out at Amazon only means amazon.com. So does that mean the pre-order rate they're talking about is only USA? Or are they conflating the US sold out statement with global pre-orders?

The article is so stupid as to link to Amazon as a reference within the sentence "Microsoft has announced, however, that Xbox One pre-orders are higher at this point". Why didn't it link to Hryb's actual statement, given that's the subject of the sentence, not the Amazon situation?

There's a lot to criticise about the lack of journalistic competence in this article. Including the unsubstantiated (though likely to be true at least on a global scale) claim that PS4 pre-orders are ahead of Xb one. It's actually not even possible for Sony or MS to confirm (if they wanted to) their relaive pre-order numbers, because neither company knows how many units have been made available for day one pre-order, and neither company knows how many units each other will ship in the first 3-6 months.

No. It's not misleading bias or lazy joujournalists because they mentioned NPD. If they didn't mention NPD at all then it would be misleading. Plus NPD has been around for awhile if you don't know what that means how is it their fault? 

People who don't follow console sales very closely, esp those outside of America, have no idea what NPD is and that its console sales numbers only cover USA. NPD is also a global company, with offices in 16 countries, so somply because you're quoting NPD figures doesn't mean the figures being quoted are always about America.

So gaming reporters should only write articles for people in the know? It's not their fault if readers don't know what NPD is, but it is their fault if such a reader forms the impression that the sales data the reporter is quoting is global when the data is in fact limited to the USA. At best it is lazy reporting to assume knowledge on the part of the reader for the sake of writing 2 words and a 3 letter acronym: "in the USA".
