I've played 2, Sonic & Knuckles, Generations and Sonic CD.

 

And boy do I regret playing them.

 

For some reason I kinda liked the "plot structure" of Shadow the Hedgedog...but that's it.

Don't judge Sonic based on the last 2 games, one was developed by Sonic Team's "B" team, and the other was developed by a 3rd party studio. Sonic Team's "A" team has been steadily working on a new next-gen Sonic game ever since they finished Generations in 2011. Generations was good, so I still have faith in Sonic Team's "A" team.

You're too optimistic  

I'll play it if they return to form though, as I loved Generations. Colors was also pretty fun. 

If it's like Boom and Lost World... then I'm probably done with Sonic for good.

They are probably going all out with it, 25th anniversary game and all.

You played the last game that mattered, lost world was a spin off by second class sonic team devs and boom was his own thing (made by naughty dog devs) you can't even call it a sonic game.

The true latest mainline game was good.
