A Washington man who fired his shotgun into the air to scare away alleged car prowlers pleaded not guilty on Wednesday, citing Vice President Joe Biden’s questionable gun advice as the reason he took that specific action.

Jeffery Barton, 52, of Vancouver, Wash., is charged with one count of illegal aiming or discharging a firearm. He was arraigned in Clark County Court on Wednesday.

Vice President Joe Biden, left, on Feb. 20, 2013. Jeffrey Barton of Vancouver cited Biden in his defense of a case where he fired a gun in the air, July 17, 2013 (White House, KOIN 6 News)

Barton admitted to firing his weapon in the air while chasing away people he thought were breaking into his vehicles early Monday morning, according to law enforcement officials. Deputies have not been able to find any evidence of prowlers on Barton’s property, but are looking into a large party that got out of control that same night.

“I did what Joe Biden told me to do,” Barton told KOIN outside the courtroom on Wednedsay. “I went outside and fired my shotgun in the air.”

Now, one might think that the advice of the vice president of the United States would be at least somewhat reliable — or at least reliable enough that when you take that advice, you won’t end up in jail.

However, taking Biden’s advice on guns could mean criminal charges.

“If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barreled shot gun,” Biden said in a previous interview.

“I said ‘Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here…put that double-barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house,” the vice president added. “I promise you, whoever is coming in is not gonna– you don’t need an AR-15. It’s harder to aim, it’s harder to use and, in fact, you don’t need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun. Buy a shotgun.”

TheBlaze also thoroughly debunked Biden’s claim that an AR-15 is harder to “aim” and “shoot.” Read that story here.

Other than just being reckless advice, it is also illegal in some cases.

“[S]heriff’s deputies told KOIN 6 News Wednesday that current law does not afford people the right to just fire off their gun. There must be a self-defense component, along with a life-threatening situation — none of which appeared to be the case here, they said,” KOIN-TV reports.

How was he listening to Biden's advice? Biden said "if u want to protect yourself". Guy was just trying to be a dick. Probably not even a dem.

Anyhoo, why on earth would anyone even listen to Biden in the first place? He's there to be the average Joe. That uncle or brother in law that does questionable things but it's ok because he works hard and is a good guy at heart.

No what Biden said is stupid.. in this day and age it's possible if you shoot a double barrel shotgun outside the house.. the people will start shooting back... in addition.. it is illegal in so many places.. plus.. he does not say where to shoot.. if you shoot in the general direction of someone breaking into your house.. you may shoot them by accident.. (Not to mention other problems with this argument) and that could put you in jail.. faster than the person who was trying to break into your house.. Biden.. is a idiot... period..

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

whats funny is he says take your double barrel shotgun and fire 2 shots into the air, and you'll be safe.

well if its a double barrel, your out of ammo now. you just rendered yourself defenseless. lol

Biden looks like an elderly Haley Joel Osment.

I like Biden's advice. But, without knowing the specifics of the case it is dumb to judge. The perp very well might have been being a Dick and have been in no danger.

they kinda look related lol

And this guy could run for president in 2016...

Listening to someones advice, even if its the Vice Presidents, does not absolve you from knowing the laws in your area. This guy only has himself to blame.
