Forums - Sales - June 2013 NPD Thread! - 360:140k, 3DS:225k

Thought I'd change it up a bit and add the remainder of the first 12 months to graph this time. I was tempted to include the Ouya but I thought it would be far too harsh.

One little interesting observation given some suggestions elsewhere in the last couple of days, the Wii U is ~220k behind the Vita's current lifetime NPD total (so up to and including this month), with 9 months of sales to come in the launch aligned comparison, including an entire holiday season...

Amazing TLoU numbers... really fantastics... hell undertracked here.

Except 3DS everything else is fine or meh.

I repeat...

30% down YOY for PS3 and 360 by year end..... Is anyone with me yet!!?? (Both down 46% this month YOY in the US)

Lol.

Poor numbers for 360 and PS3, truly horrific numbers for WiiU and PSVita.

And if people think the Euro market is immune to what the US and Japan market is seeing they are kidding themselves. Euro will be overtracked too.

Well the shipment for 360 are only 10% down this quarter... in some place the retail is ordering 360 consoles.

I agree US will be 30% (or even more) but Europe and others will track that to below 20%.

Just compare this year with last year shipments (MS only):

Jan-Mar: 1.4m to 1.3m
 Apr-Jun: 1.1m to 1.0m

Overall: 2.5m to 2.3m (8% down)

So I can't see your 30% down this year yet.

and you said down 7% for the year.

I added raw data with shadow edit... and ~10% is for PS3 with price cut... 360 is more close to 15%.... and 360 for now is close to 7% lol.

Just compare this year with last year shipments (MS only):

Jan-Mar: 1.4m to 1.3m
Apr-Jun: 1.1m to 1.0m

Overall: 2.5m to 2.3m (8% down)

So I can't see your 30% down this year yet.

I know you cant.  But you will.  I'm not sure you uderstand supply and demand.

Your 7% down for the year prediction for the PS3 was, and is, ludicrous.

I need to updated that thread because after the PS3 updates in May my numbers are tracking even below VGC

Wii U numbers are mind blowingly bad for a home console, and if that 12k figure for Game & Wario is true...

The slope for the Wii U is basically flat and there's about nothing coming up for another month. July will be as bad, August could get better, but sales will still be terrible. And America keeps on getting games weeks after the rest of the World, shows how badly NoA is run, even if Iwata is the CEO.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

I found that in GAF... seem like the handheld are diying in US... the Japan seems a way different trend BTW.

That YoY increase for the 3DS is just golden. All thanks to Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion. AKA, games.

who would have thought that games would make people buy gaming systems? weird i know! maybe sony should use this strategy with the vita

Some things are too practical to come true.

I was banned for 3 days, because I said the Vita is dead and I don't want to get banned again, but I don't see any positive news for it.
Sony basically skipped it at E3 and even the most vocal and hardcore Sony fans on VGC just ignore it as if it never released. It is selling 5k a week in the USA. And Sonys own forecast is like 4 million globally for the entire year. That is just horrible.

Do you think Sony might discontinue it afterall?

Definitely not. At worst it will be reduced to a PS4 peripheral. At best the PS4 integration will keep it afloat

LoL that is even worse than to discontinue it... Talking about a slow death.
"Hey your handheld won't get any new games, but you can use it as a controller for a console you might not even own."

And the 2nd sentence is wishful thinking IMO. Look at the PS Move and how well this optional input device did. And that was $149 less than a Vita.

And how many PS4 will be sold in the first year? Let's be ridiculously bullish here and assume 20 million consoles sold in 12 months and not a single one of them owns a Vita yet. What percentage of those users will buy a $249 controller for a $399 console? 10%, 15%? So we are looking at 2 - 3 million additional Vitas at the very very very best scenario.

I think the Vita won't get any real software support as soon as late 2014. In other words, my prediction is that the Vita will be basically dead in 18 months from now.

*disclaimer* I am not trying to piss anyone off! This is MY prediction and you are free to disagree. Please don't ban me for this.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Wii U and Vita are close to death after all... anybody that said otherwise is blind.

Can happen some miracle to save them? Of couse... miracles can do everything lol... but the chances are below 10% to that happen... for Vita is even worst because it is at more time in the market.

The latest Sony hope is that Vita started to be used for Remote Play... so PS4 have a slight chance to save it but I don't believe.
