Forums - Gaming - Why are game developers so stupid

So I'm playing Last of Us and enjoying it for the most part. The graphics are great. The game play is smooth and interesting. The music is nothing special, but sets the atmosphere well. My beef is with the limited understanding of reality by the game developers. The young girl in the gamee, Ellie is obscene, and disrespectful of her elders. And for somee reason, with next to no experience in life she is somehow endowed with a deeper understanding of life than Joel, the adult. An adult female at the beginning of the game is extremely violent which is such an unrealistic portrayal of women. Do the game developers think that they are being 'progressive' by living in a delusion. What do you think? Also, the game developers leave it up to Ellie, the young girl  to decide whether there is a heaven or not. And of course she selfconfidentally says she doesn't think so. So according to the game deveelopers there is no point to life. Life is crap, we live and die, and that's it. This is the shallowest, unthoughtful point of view that I can imagine. There is no rational reason to believe this point of view. And there is no reason given to support this nihilism. So are game developers good at graphics and stupid at life. What do you think?

What?

Bolded1: Sounds like a teenager to me
Bolded2: Sounds like a teenager to me (Haven't played yet, but her thinking she's smarter than Joel sounds like a typical teenager)
Bolded3: Sounds like real life to me (women can be cruel and brutal, too...)
Bolded4: Sounds like someone who just is caught in the apocalypse. How did you come to the conclusion this is the intended statement by the developers to the players?
Bolded5: Actually there is, Zombie apocalypse and all...

Conclusion: I think I can't agree with you. At all.

If you think they're stupid, don't play their games.
They're games, not documentaries. They're meant to entertain. That's all

Also, I haven't played the Last of Us yet, but your example isn't very well thought out. The game has a "zombie" apocalypse setting and you're saying violent women are unrealistic? And why should a little girl who grew up in this setting believe in heaven or god or a greater good?

Get over yourself

My first ever post!

OK you need to step back and do the math.

20 years of zombies....Ellie is how old?

That's right. All she knows is pain and violence and how to survive. She wasn't caught in the apocalypse... Joel was. She was born into it.

Of anything they were geniuses to realize that and mold her character to reflect that.

same reason most gamers are stupid....also cant really say much about last of us havent played it ...but man heavy rains who ever wrote that plot is a damn idiot...freakin ten year old gets lost in the mall and somehow gets on the other side of the street and runs into traffic without looking then dies after being hit by a car going 2 mph(and his pops was the one who absorbed most the contact also)...shit is something either a mentally challenged kid would do or someone 5 and under

Joke post?  Mhm, has to be.  I mean, are you saying that whatever a character believes, that's what the creator of that character believes?  Interesting.  Insane, but interesting.

As far as females never being violent, I have no idea how to respond to that.  Unfortunately for that sheltered point of view, Youtube is a thing.

Probably not the best time to criticise the last of us yet. Its still relevant and fanboys will pounce to protect there company. Give a year them criticise. :/

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

 By: Suke

I dunno dude, I don't even believe in God now. I can't imagine that I'd start believing if all hell broke loose and a plague of fungus was wiping out the entire human race.

@Suke, To be fair I don't think many people would agree with his criticism regardless of how long it's been.

He can critizise all he wants, but his points should at least make some sense. It's pretty easy to destroy most of them, even if you have only a general clue what this game is about.

Keep in mind a few things.

Their reality is not ours. Ellie mentions at one point how she does not understand girls from "before" concerning themselves with fashion and boys. She has lived a hard life where everyone she knows has died and life and death hang in the balance all the time.

As for her language, it is simple, children with no authority figure to tell them otherwise test their boundaries. I knew kids who came from broken homes and often by 10 would swear all the time because no one told them otherwise. In the game Joel never says "watch your language!", in fact it is only an antagonist who finds her language mildly offensive. Frankly, when the world has gone the way it has there, who really cares about decorum?

On philosophical issues. The notion of "we live and die" being what life offers is pretty common views and can take on various facets. Thinking this way can be negative or positive, personally I see it as an empowering view that gives life great value because of how precious it is. For Ellie it could be hard to handle because her life has been such a hard one to endure. On religion it is not odd to think after a great fall of civilization the myths and teachings of the before would be viewed oddly by the after people who have had no social conditioning to accept them as fact. They would look at modern religion same way many view ancient religions.

Overall I found Last of Us characterization to be brilliantly thought out and indicative of how people think and act. Sorry you do not see it that way.
