it seems like the matter is simply about time. they dont have enough time to finish the game before submitting it and shipping it, so they are using the online store and day one DLC to earn some extra time and finish the game. no big deal really

No, just the console itself. Though I don't see why MS doesn't just put the day-one patch for DRM onto several launch game discs. That'd fix it so some people would never ever have to connect it to the internet if they aren't able to. |
oh come on..... the guy that has access to an XB has not access to a land line and dial up or has no cellphone connection???? I've seen land lines in shanty towns and hut village all over the world... I've seen tribe people with cellphones.... this situation is almost not even close 0.00000001% of chance to happen it is the tail of the tail of the tail of the bell curve with 10 standard deviation added to it.....
Not surprising at all, as most early Xbox games will need an internet connection to be played fully.

Again, probably has to do with production.
Once the XB1 is out for awhile I doubt future systems require day one updates, and I'm sure the games will be the same way.
If you guys saw the "Driveatar" in action you'd realize online is pretty key to this game.
It's just that simple.
So, a 1 time internet connection when I buy the system, and another 1 time internet connection when I play the game....
....
.......
Soon it's going to be a one time internet connection every time I turn the box on.

Oh well, I just hope One has an ethernet cable input, so I can unplug it the 99% of the time I do play it.

what MS should do is with those "inside stores" they're building inside Best Buy they should have something like a download center where people who don't have any viable internet to do all these patches/update/dlc

That would be a great idea
yes it does have an Ethernet port.... any tech that pretends to be a media hub should have gigabit port, only apple thinks it's not necessary....
now I'm just waiting for the Amish gamers community to complain that XB is running on electricity

Half a game? That's pushing it a bit. |
Actually not true, because there will be services that third parties will provide to update the console as day one. However, games are still ip tied, since it was never announced as removed, so you have to download from your house.
