Feel free to ignore the following if you did not mean "better" in the sense of bigger or more important.  (But please tell me if that is the case.)

Although I think that FF games are superior to Halo games (therefore "better") they are NOT bigger, or more important to the console, etc.

FF games (main series) have sold as follows: VII-10.31, VIII-7.86, IX-5.3, X-8.22, X-2-5.21, XII-5.12 * Also remember that these games were on userbases of 100 to 120+? million and were No.s 2, 8, and 10; and No.s 7, 11, and 21, in terms of sales on the respective consoles. (Ranks taken from here, accuracy not guaranteed.)

Halo games have gone H1-6.43, H2-8.45, H3-7.13+? on userbases of 24 to 17+? and were No.s 1 and 2 with No. 3 being less than half the sales of No. 2; and No 1, respectively.

Clearly Halo is much bigger on the Xbox than Final Fantasy is on the Playstation. In terms of total sales I don't expect Halo 3 to pass 8 million but that will be higher than FFXIII ever gets to, unless you plan to count each of the Fabula Nova Crystallis games separately.

I left Gran Turismo out of this because you are correct: It is bigger than Halo.

*(Some of you may notice that these numbers are not what I had said earlier; that's because I was an idiot and looked at the wrong column (score) for FF8 and 12. The irony.)

I agree. Just look at Halo 2 attach rate, it's 35 %. The best selling FF is FFVII and that has LESS than 10 %. Even in Japan, its strongest market, it has less then 20%.

Halo was actually more important to XB than Mario Platformer was to GC!

I mean, come on! 22% of XB's software sales were from Halo 1 and 2!

FF was on Ps, over 4 games, still only 7 %.

Oyvoyvoyv: Be careful not to fall into the trap of directly comparing attach rates of flagship game sales on unpopular vs. popular game consoles. That goes double -- at least -- for the share of total software sales.

I think that the best-seller rankings are a much simpler indicator. And of course Halo blows FF away.

so in five weeks it has grown from 10K to 50K, meaning an extra 8K a week. So by this time next year the PS3 will outsell the 360 by 466,000 units in one week in Europe.

@final fan, Halo3 has already sold more then 8mil to stores by the end of 2008. It will make it past 9mil for sure.
