Forums - Gaming Discussion - My one issue with the "exclusives" argument

Carl2291 said:
I think a game on multiple platforms is a multiplat.

Its the exclusives that differentiate your platform from other platforms.

If your "exclusives" are on another platform, theyre meaningless in a discussion about exclusive titles.

Aand we're done here. Can't lay it out more simply than that.

On the flipside, I wonder why I don't see PC fans class all those PC/360 games as 'PC exclusives'? It's almost like they don't feel like they have something to prove against a competing platform, so they don't have to REACH to justify their purchase over another.

Anyway, the term 'console exclusive' has arisen for us to ignore the PC as a gaming platform in fanboy wars, so I guess it's a non-issue now.

WAIT:

This also means PS2 HD Remastered games are exclusives on the PS3. Do you realise how fucking stupid that is? xD

Oh and also PS1 games.

So fucking dumb...

EDIT:
If you have a 60GB PS3 -> A shit ton of PS2 games are exclusive on the PS3 XD

it seems certain people want to leave out PC as a platform and lets be real here it is a platform to make the 360 look better. That is NOT how it works in the real world. multiplat=game released on mulitiple formats. 360/PC multiple formats

Funny since most people use PC to make PS look better. These multiplats are on Xbox, and Xbox gamers only refer to the Xbox version, not the PC version. Its the PS gamer who uses the PC version to complement PS exclusives.

This isn't even about comparing exclusives, this is about going above that and comparing games on one and not the other, in a true Xbox vs PS comparison.

The reason it "doesn't count" is if Jim has a good PC.

For someone like myself who has a rather beastly PC: Choosing a 360 is rather foolish compared to the exclusives found on the PS3.

Not only is the 360/PC games available for me on the PC but they are also better due to the hardware being newer as well as them at.. times.. being.. free (Pirates.. derp)

Walking around here in Scandanavia and you'll see barely anyone calling a 360/PC game for exclusive due to the fact that so many of us are PC oriented.

So you're saying Jim died in vain?  I know dozens and dozens of people that game on consoles.  Every girl I've dated in the past few months has had a Wii and some crazy fitness game.  I probably know two people that game on a PC and I've never seen someone actually do it in person.  Yeah, there are a lot of PC gamers in the world but the pale in comparsion to the actual console gamer that will spend money on the newest iteration of Grand Theft Auto.  Don't belive me?  Wait for the sales figure on the next big multi-plat title.  Even if the PC version is highly superior, console sales will eat it alive.

How is this about sales? I thought we we're talking about Jim.

It's a matter of society as well. Are you American by any chance? In Scandanavia, I believe there was a test that showed that 95% of gamers are on the PC even though they own consoles. I don't know a single soul anymore here that defends the 360 out of "my friends" (derp), because everyone here has a rather decent PC that they would use to play any games they truly want. It's not like 80% of games are 360/PC either, it's a handful.

I understand what you are saying but you have to acknowledge my position as well. For me: The 360 is an atrocious choice when comparing it to the PS3: Given the fact that PC is so common here.

Yeah, I live in America.  It's not about sales.   Sales are just the way to show that, regardless of how many people have PC's in Scandonavia, PC gamers are stlll the minority when compared to console gamers.  On the internet, EVERYBODY has (or says they have) a gaming PC.  In reality, it's not the case.  In a battle between console A vs console B, I just feel that the total library should be taken into account.  That's all.  Jim didn't have a gaming PC, btw.

So really, thats an admission that PS can't stand up by itself against Xbox?

Because in a strict PS vs Xbox debate, neglecting these types of games seems silly. Bringing in a PC to fight PS battles.....thats what these types of replies sound like.

The 360 sales of Left 4 Dead and especially Minecraft shows that there is a big market for console only gamers. These titles clearly matter.

Or it could be that one group acknowledges that PC is a gaming platform just like PS3 and 360 while the other group acts like it isn't.

It is, but it also has no place in the crystal clear PS vs Xbox rivalry.

Xbox gamers have no problem keeping it mono-a-mono, its the PS gamers that can't seem to stand up on their own brand.

on a PC......PS3 alone can't do what 360 can do...so you "go get some help". :P

That's like saying the 360 couldn't keep up with PS3 so it went to the PC to "go get some help".

Except I would refer to the Xbox version....a PS gamer would refer to the PC version. lol please

When I go into a forum, I discuss my own view with others. I am shaped by the society I live in and I suppose things are different depending on where you're from.

That's all I have to say on that matter.

It also is rather ridicilous though to think that PS2 re-mastered games along with PS1 games that aren't available on the X360 are exclusives to the PS3...

THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one lol.

In short: PS3 has multiplats not on 360 like MLB, FF14, and a few others. But Xbox multiplats not on PS3 are vastly numerically superior. It is one of MS's #1 strategies this gen.

Sony fans praise the almighty exclusive not just because they are what they are, but in short doing so cripples Xbox's main strategy: to secure games NOT on playstation.

Gears of War, Left 4 Dead 1/2, Dead Rising, Witcher 2, Minecraft, etc etc etc........not on PS3. Doesn't count, it aint exclusive. Upcoming X1 games that are shared with Windows 8, XBLA games shared with tablets.......sorry, not exclusive. It doesn't exist.

This is a Sony world unfortunately, something Ive been trying to fight for a while, and sadly it comes to the point where we just live in their world and play by their rules. It sickens me to no end.

If its on one and not the other, it counts, both ways. In a true Xbox vs PS debate, these titles deserve a mention. Any filtering of these games is propaganda, nothing more, in its lowest form.

Add them then, It still doesnt fix the facts that Minecraft has become your idea of xbox exclusivity. That's what happens when you stop making games on a console and move on to the next.

Minecraft, among others like it = Multiplats, not on PS.

A Xbox gamer would however, treat it like an actual exclusive

So would Red Dead Redemption be considered a 360 exclusive by Xbox gamers because it's not on the Wii?

If something is on more than one system, it's not an exclusive. It's as simple as that.

Also the word exclusive has really lost its meaning with this generation. Sure you  can throw around "Console exclusive" or "HD Twin exclusive" but seriously =>

"ex·clu·sive - Not divided or shared with others."

If you can experience it somewhere else: Then it is not exclusive in any way. Period.

This isn;t about exclusives. This is about comparing what one has and the other doesn't.

Your filtering of just exclusives is the real problem; sweeping Xbox games under the rug like they don't exist. And even PS multiplats not on Xbox. Two way street. Just comparing exclusives is increasingly closed minded in this age, especially in a strict Xbox vs PS comparison.

If you have a 60GB PS3 -> A shit ton of PS2 games are exclusive on the PS3 XD

I see what you are saying and I can respect it.  Count the PS2 backwards compatible games as a reason to buy  the PS3 if you want.  That's not much different than counting Xbox 1 support as a feature when factoring in the purchase of an Xbox 360.  I play PS2 games on my 80GB PS3 all the time.  I play Xbox games on my Xbox 360 all the time.  You seem to be missing the point.  I'm saying compare Library vs Library.  Count everything.  If you can play a Ratchet and Clank collection on the PS3 and not on the Xbox 360, that may influence your opinion on which one is better.  I can see your point of view on exclusves.  I can accept and respect it.  I'm just saying that when you compare the TOTALITY of the PS3 library vs the TOTALITY of the Xbox 360 library, it doesn't look so bad.

Bottom line:  Count everything.

Take it all into account when comparing ONE console vs ONE console.  Now, if you choose to compare one console and a PC vs another console and a PC,that's another story.  Not the point of this thread, though.  Hopefully, by seeing things the way I have attempted to present them, my point of view seems less "Fucking stupid" or "fucking dumb".
