Forums - Gaming Discussion - My one issue with the "exclusives" argument

Minecraft, among others like it = Multiplats, not on PS.

A Xbox gamer would however, treat it like an actual exclusive

Choosing to play minecraft on anything but PC/Mac/Linux is a complete joke.  It has so many more features on PC it is pathetic.  It would be like if BF3 on console only had half the maps, no DLC, and 12 Player online with no air vehicles.

A joke to you, maybe.  And yet millions of people choose to play it on another format.  Everything you said may be true but you still can't speak for everybody.

PC is just another gaming platform and as such it counts in every argument about exclusive games. Calling games exclusive, that ARE NOT, just devalues the word and acts to make the ones including non-exclusives as exclusives seem desperate. When comparing game libraries, feel free to add console exclusives and other multiplats.

Thats the idea, to make that universal, rather then the massively filtered "exclusive" lists. On top of that, only counting retail and not digital.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

One more post before I leave this whole thingy alone:

The Wii U.

The Wii U might not get any games from EA Sports, this year. Lets say we were doing a comparison between Xbox 360 and Wii U. In 12 months, the Wii U got games like NSMBU, Game and Wario, Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, etc. That is a TON of exclusives compared to the Xbox which only has Gears of War Judgement and Fable Anniversary.

Let us say that some guy makes a comparison of exclusives. By HIS rules, only games from the Wii U's launch date until now are allowed to count. A game Like Madden wouldn't count for the Xbox 360 because it's a multi-plat. Just comparing exclusives, the Xbox only has like two games "that count" while the Wii U would have like a dozen! Again, it would be a situation where the Wii U has more exclusives so the Wii U wins, right? No. The Wii U would be missing so many key multi-platform titles that the Xbox 360 would be the obvious better choice!

Some people in this thread would argue "Well, everybody I know has a PS3 already" or "Most of those games are on PC so he should already be able to play those games". NO! NO! NO! *slaps you* You can't just say what somebody SHOULD have! The only thing that we know for sure is that one console is being compared to another. The comparison is between Wii U vs. Xbox 360 over which console has the games you want to play. The PS3 and PC are not factors. It's option A vs option B.

And that's how I think a PS3 vs. 360 comparison should be done. One device in comparison to One device. And that's it. I'm out!

That's cool if you want to analyze a minority situation (Gamers without PCs).

That's what I told Sales2099 as well and he eventually got it. (I think.)

Not everyone has a computer, has a gaming computer, or enjoys gaming on a computer. Game has sold over 7,000,000 copies on 360. So clearly people wanna play it on this platform that people in this thread are saying they shouldn't want to play it on.

I completely agree.
Also people say you can play the game the game on PC, but I'm not a PC gamer and only game sometimes on PC and that is to play old N64 games! So if its a console exclusive than its counted as an exclusive for me.

At this point it becomes very much a case of personal preference on a case by case basis. However, if we're actually trying to get a meaningful analysis then all gaming devices need to be taken into account as 1 v 1 comparisons would suggest each console/device exists in a bubble with only a single rival which is patently false.

It's unrealistic and not a particularly useful analysis.

Everyone has a preference and plays on multiple systems.....to make a open comparison to accomodate everyone is impossible. Which is why personal preferences and other platforms have to be excluded and you adopt a "tunnel vision" that comes with a rivalry, which we all know exists.

Its just about seeing what one console can do that the other can't. Give the full picture, simple. What you make of it depends on what other platforms you game on, but thats beside the point. It isn't what you can play, its about what the console can play.

I don't own a PC and most people who buy consoles likely don't either so I don't understand why some people keep acting like everyone owns one.

I always considered games to be "console exclusive" or "HH exclusive" personally. For example, when SSB4 is released, I will count the game as both a Wii U & 3DS exclusive. Why? You can't get the game on another console or another HH.

Same thing with the PC, I consider "Left 4 Dead" an XBox exclusive. Can you buy it on the PC? Yeah. Is it on the PS3 or Wii? Nope. It is a + for the XBox and a - for the others.

Sold 10 million on phones too.

Doesn't mean you aren't gimped and missing out on mods, skins, texture packs, etc that benefit the PC version.

Breaking news, PC games get things console games do not.

Weather after these messages.

Minecraft runs fine on even the weaker intel integrated graphics, and it's only real requirement is having a decent amount of ram (More than 2 GB).  So do you not have a PC/Mac/Linux-Box?  Do you know anyone (Above the age of 12) who doesn't?

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]
