Microsoft's Surface RT recently got a $150 price cut in the United States, bringing the cost of the Windows RT tablet down to $349 for the 32 GB model without a Touch/Type Cover. As you would expect, these price cuts have traveled internationally, bringing similar savings in other regions including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the rest of Europe.

Here is a summary of the price cuts in various regions.

• The United Kingdom gets a £120 price cut, bringing down the price to £279 from £399
• Canada, like the US, gets a $150 to bring the price down to $349 from $499
• Australia gets an AU$170 price cut, bringing down the price to AU$389 from AU$559
• Various European regions, such as France and Germany, see cuts around €150 to bring the price to €329-339 from ~€479

The cuts signal continued efforts from Microsoft to offload stock of the Surface RT as a successor is prepared, which as the rumors indicate will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, ditching the current NVIDIA Tegra CPU. Education discounts are also available for the device, bringing the price down even further to US$199 if you're eligible.

There's no reason to get a surface anymore. Other windows tablets are better and cheaper. They needed to launch it way faster.

Recent figures from analysts IDC show that 49.2 million tablets shipped in January, February and March - and about 900,000 of those were Surfaces.

Other Windows-powered tablets totalled 1.8 million units sold across all vendors. Apple's iPad and iPad Mini accounted for 19.5 million of tablets sold.

It's quickly approaching a year with Surface. MS need to up their game.

I'm posting that here since it is essentially about surface resistance test..... but it can also give us a good insight on the fact they are well equipped now that they have a wider range of devices, to make resistance test for such devices.... so I doubt we'll see any heat issues on the XB1

Wow that's not good.

Firstly, stop buying tablets! Buy laptops instead!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I am not really sure it is worth it. Surface RT is quite limited, but £280 is a much better price, new iPads start from over £400, I still feel a £160 Nexus 7 is your best bet, or an XPERIA Tablet Z at the high end

If you are going to be silly and buy a tablet, it would be helpful if you bought a Win 8 one, so I can get these second screen apps on my touchscreen laptop

900,000 sounds a bit on the optimistic side for 3 months given the just-released numbers from MSFT's 10-K filing:

The 1.7 million lifetime sales figure is just a ballpark estimate, based on a very crude $500 ASP.  The more Surface Pros are in the mix, the lower the actual unit sales must have been.  I also wonder whether revenue from the keyboard covers is included here.
