Forums - Microsoft - Gears of War 2? Nonsense says Epic

@ ClaudeLv250

And as you can clearly see on the bottle, that ish was released in JP only... Right? Where I, who live in America, don't have to see it every couple of minutes. Anyway, this was not a hit on Gears, I just want some of the ungoldy advertising for it not to happen.

@ tk1797

No, never heard of that.

@ Stan

That potion was only available in JP. As were the figurines and T-Shirts. Nothing wrong with commercials, but advertising on soda and whatnot is what I have a problem with.

I don't want Gears to die Stan, I just hope that it doesn't get milked to death. I will buy Gears 2 and inevitabley Gears 3, but like Halo 2 and 3, I only bought them, because they were the hot ticket and everyone was talking about them. They were good games, but you can't tell me, that aside from matchmaking, Halo 3 added many game-changing things that halo 2 didn't have, and the same from halo 2 to halo 1.

Can you tell me any franchise that has been life-changing after its sequel? I sure can't. The only one that has done a gigantic step foward would be the jump from Super Mario World to Mario 64. Now that was a drastic change for gaming cuz Nintendo created a well balanced 3-D plataformer and showed a true transition from 2D to 3D. Final Fantasy sure hasn't reinvented its formula. Its always a fun storyline with new little touches, same with basically any game. So why should GoW not enjoy a great advertising campaing like Halo did? Trust me, if SquareEnix had had the budget that Microsoft did to advertise Halo SE would've done the same, or any other company for that matter.

What are you looking at, nerd?

The t-shirts were definitely in the US, FFVII marketing blitz was overhwelming. There were people at my school wearing FFVII shirts that had never played FF before.

God, I hope they just let this franchise die a good death. I love Gears, but I feel like they're going to pimp it out like Halo 3. Midnight launches, Mountain dew, etc. And that's all any media outlet is going to be reporting. After this one is the same as the last, I hope that they end the franchise, and move on to another genre to exploit.

So you don't want to see a sequel to a kickass game.  I'm curious are you looking forward to Killzone 2?  Maybe there should only be sequels to games that are average or shit?  Wonder how that would turn out?

Oh and are you looking forward to Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13, and all the other Playstation franchises that have more installments than Gears?  Lets see who the real pimps are.

OMFG are people not even able to read posts anymore

First

@ Legend

In the post you quoted, I said that I love gears, I do want to see a sequel, that actually makes the game better (i.e.: better story), and adds some game-changing elements to it.

@ Claude

Are you really going to tell me that any game has gotten even half of the marketing blitz of Halo 3? You can't be serious if you say yes. [In america]

@ Stan

Between FFs, they, IDK change the entire battle system, change the era in which it takes place, drastically change the settings, characters, story, etc. No numbered Final Fantasy has been like the last, they've all had the epic story thing in common, and some of the Summons/GF/Espers etc. (See, even the names of stuff changes) but the gameplay varies from each one. You can't look at me and tell me that Seven is anything like twelve. And eleven is an online game. Ten was the first one to have voice acting. Eight was a love story, and nine was a throwback to the originals. In eight, your summons had life, and weren't summoned instantly, in ten, only the one girl could summon. Etc. And the list goes on and on and on about the differences, but I don't have all night to type them. But FF games change drastically between incarnations. But you really can't say the same for a game like Halo can you?

To summarize. I do not hate gears... nor halo... I own both games. I just hate the Marketing blitz that these games get when they come out. I'd like for a game to come out, and not see it on the news. That's all. I plan on buying the inevitable Halo 4, and Gears of War 2, as that will be all that anyone is playing when it comes out. I please hope that we can end this useless conversation now.

Mark Rein seems to get pissed off everytime someone mentions Gears of War 2. It would be interesting to see how much bad blood there is between Epic and Microsoft.

Civilization, Doom series, Half-Life 1 vs 2, FFIX vs X, Zelda OoT vs every game on earth at the time, The Elder Scrolls series always makes a leap between installments, V-Rally series, Guilty Gear series, Gothic 1 vs 2, Might & Magic VI vs V, Age of Empires 2 vs 1, The Settlers series has been renewed a few times as well, Diablo 2 vs 1, Ultima series (allthough it took a turn for the worse), Lands of Lore 2 vs 1 and indeed 3 vs 2, Duke Nuke 'Em, Castlevania, Resident Evil 4 vs 3, Battlefield 2 vs Battlefield 1942, Heroes of Might & Magic V vs IV.

Why can no one acknowledge a point being made by a user who have different tastes than them? This here is the very definition of internet logic. If DMeisterJ doesn't have a point, name one (1), a single game that had more advertising and hype than Halo 3? I've been around gaming since the late 80's and I've never seen anything even remotely close to be perfectly honest.
