Red Dead and God of War III are tied!!!

Even though a 92 on Meta is amazing, God of War III definitely deserved to be higher, if it weren't for the problem at launch with controllers cutting out and if critics reviewed the game for what it is instead of deducting points for it being too similar to God of War II, I bet it would have averaged 95%.

Oh well, at 92.71% (93%) on Metacritic it is still the most acclaimed hack & slash this generation. Then there's the perfect scores from G4TV, Machinima & Guardian that MC didn't include that would've brought the average up to 92.92% (ensuring a 93 meta) even though MC used all 3 publications scores later that year for other games. So even though it's underrated, it's still the most acclaimed game in the genre ever, 93% based on over 100 reviews with around 25+ perfect scores. I doubt it will be surpassed for a very long time.

I think hack & slash games are always reviewed more harshly than other genres, more so this generation. Look at how many TPS/FPS/RPGs etc have inflated scores at 90%+ averages, only 2 hack & slash games have averaged 90% or above this home console generation, God of War III & Bayonetta. Even then, Bayonetta barely reached 90% at 89.79 on Metacritic (89.85 including the same 3 publications missed for GoW3) so God of War III is the only game to pass 90%, therefore even though It deserves better I think that once you compare it only to other games in the genre 93% seems quite fair and it dominates everything else which it rightfully should.
