This is a bit inaccurate.
The Xbox One and PS4 launch/day one editions have sold out on Amazon multiple times, because they would get a higher allotment and re-open them. At least that is what happened with the Xbox One day one edition.
Up until today, the Xbox One Day 1 Edition was vastly outpacing the PS4, and was at the top 1-5 spots for several weeks. It appears to have dropped sharply after they sold out this last time.
Xbox One's have been "sold out" at Gamestop stores for ages now. Only online orders have been available. While the PS4 just recently sold out of stores/online. I do not know why the Xbox One would still be available online and the PS4 wouldn't. Perhaps MS still haven't given firm allotment numbers/production estimates.

Don't lie. On Amazon US, the PS4 was at #2 a week after E3 ended while Xbox One was sitting at #8. After the 180, the Xbox one made its way to #6 within the past couple weeks and has stayed there since. The PS4 later got overtaken by Xbox Live cards and moved to #3.
Or you might not be lying, you might be mistaken. You're probably thinking of t he Amazon best sellers which changes every hour, and yeah, the Xbox One was at first at one t ime. So was the PS4 day one edition, etc. The problem with that one is it is only on an hourly basis. When something doesn't sell on there it drops and then it continues dropping which is why after the PS4 day one edition was sold out it eventually movved off the first page.
This list right here has an actual number to each item and each items ranking does not change until one number surpasses the other. Cumulative sales in 2013. PS4 is at #3 right now and Xbox One is at #6, but they might actually be lower by the time the two consoles launch, with Microsoft cards and PS+ cards that are in the ranks below them possibly overtaking either one.
