theres a major difference between cultures then and now. Back then that was the general befief that priests were chosen by god, etc, etc. Yes there was some curropt powers but they were curropt with the power of their title.

Scientology will try to destroy individuals in everyway till they either join or die. That in this time and place in a modern society does not belong.  Scientology is ran but a group of people who are out for the destruction of culture and individual gain. They are using their fake beliefs to try to curropt the nations and their people out of their own beliefs.  They tried in Germany and thankfully Germany kicked them out as a clut.

And it's clear the cult of Scientology has tried to do just that with bigger names...they REALLY DID try to break into a bunch of government facilities.

Now, I realize, as you MUST realize, that Scientology is a crock devised by Hubbard, a failing science fiction author. And that Scientology grew nonetheless, and exists whether you like it or not...as a religion you say, superchunk.

I'm not really sure how to convince you that it's a cult...I'm not very good with explaining.

One thing that always gets me though is the money...Catholicism might be a money machine, I don't really know, but I'm a Reformed Christian. And in my church, we take offerings on Sunday, but a money machine it is NOT. The money is A) to keep the physical building running, and B) for the needs of the community, be that near or far with missions. I realize that people say missions are just for the good of the religion, so my money is just going to Christianity, but of course I believe that we're just helping the people, and teaching them about God because we have the opportunity. If they don't accept it, we're not going to force anything on them...everyone should have a choice.

And the fact that you need to pay to get higher with an elite group makes it a cult, from a secular point of view I guess. No religion, a set of beliefs or rituals can function by forcing members to pay money to get higher. That's the work of a cult, or rather, a scam.

Sorry to go off topic but you've obviously never spent much time in small southern towns.

And as for Scientology, I really don't know anything about it other than it's freakin weird.  I definitely don't have any love for it but definitely don't support it either.

Well, I'm still not convinced that its dirty little secrets are any different than the dirty secrets all religions have/had or will have. Granted, I fully believe that it is completely made up and was a get rich scheme used by its inventor, but so has many a religious leader under any banner.

I just don't see why there are groups so steadfast on its destruction. If the idiots who have money want to give it away for what they feel is religious hope. So be it. Me, I hand money directly to the poor. I don't let others skim off the top first as what happens with all charities. religious or otherwise.

Although, if the cult indeed get too dangerous and a hazard to other people's freedoms, it should not continue.  I don't think Scientology has gotten that far...but it balances on that edge dangerously.  Breaking into government facilities?  Becoming violent with non-believers?  I'll pass.
