Forums - Nintendo - What if Wii U supported Android?

Here is my question how much difference would it have made for you if Wii U controller was an actual tablet with Android support. I would have bought the Wii U day one if I could have had access to Nintendo games, and been able to use my Wii U controller as an actual tablet. Being able to play Nintendo games plus dirt cheap mobile games would have been a major win. Additionally, adding real internet functionality would have been nice.

I like the Wii U and am looking forward to some real games for the system soon but how much better would the system had been if the tablet styled touch controller was you know an actual tablet.

This is a very big "if" that would never happen due to technical and Nintendo company policy issues... Only way this can happen is if Google buys Nintendo.

But if it did, Nintendo would be in very good shape to distribute games on other Android platforms but their hardware still wouldn't sell much more.

If nintendo had it's own app store it would be great because we could play all those ios/android games with actual buttons AND touchscreen as options.

Nintendo are providing a free application from a third party that converts HTML5 code to run on the Wii U for developers. If a developer wants to bring a smartphone game to the Wii U they can do so for very little cost (basically the price of a dev kit, Submission fees and licence fees).

Sounds good to me, if they allowed every single smartphone app on the Wii U instead you'd have 99% of the stuff in the eShop being shite.

You beat me to the punch...  I'll just link an article that talks about what you mentined.

http://www.develop-online.net/features/1967/Inside-Nintendos-Web-Framework-for-Wii-U

"Why establish Nintendo Web Framework; is it about making the Wii U accessible to more developers?
Yes, originally the Wii U development environment required C or C++ knowledge, and now it’s possible for developers to use HTML5 and JavaScript for Wii U software development as well. Therefore, with the Web Framework, more developers can create different types of software and release them at different price points; which allows users to enjoy a greater variety of new software."

Yeah, if Nintendo had some way to support Andriod, it probably would have been more of a draw for tech heads, similar to people that gravitate toward Ouya.

That being said, it is impossible due to Nintendo's own policies. Heck if the tablet was better and more capable of stand alone functions, the system would have done a lot better.

I know, I loved when I heard those news since I'm developing a HTML5 game for Ios/android right now. this way I won't have any problems porting to Wii U :D

The problem is, the Wii U Pad is not a full-blown tablet. Nor do I think Nintendo wanted it to be one. It's just meant to be a controller that works with the Wii U. Like the WiiMote and Wii's functionality.

Plus, this would make me want the Wii U no more than I already want one. Android isn't a draw to me, at all. (Seeing as how I use iOS.)
