Forums - Sales - Mario Kart Wii will sell more than Smash Bros Brawl

actually a lot of girls like fighting games.. I remember the Games of choice when we had a party or something SSB(N64), Street Figher, or Bushido Blade.

But I have to agree with you on chicks liking Mario Kart, My GF, her sister and my sister all loved to play MK:DD

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Thats a no brainer :P.. Just long at the other MK games compared to SSB.

Mario Kart will get girls.
Mario Kart will get the new expanded audience with the free wheel and easy controls
Mario Kart will get the casual because it's always hell popular with a broader audience.
Mario Kart will get all of the core because it's Mario Kart and it has online play

In the long run, Mario Kart will far outsell Smash Bros.

I'll put a bet on it :)

Didn't you say FishyJoe's thread of Brawl's launch in Japan? The one with the huge lines and the girls buying the game?

I'll take a bet on you, let me think on conditions ;>

Girls do play SSB, but in general I agree with OriGin, MKWii will outsell SSBB due to more general appeal, especially on Wii. SSBB is just too frantic for a lot of casual players.

MK:DD outsold SSBM too, so this really is a sorta no-brainer.

Kart racing is popular with girls? Half of your reasons are stuff you pulled out of your posterior to make your argument sound better.

Aside from that, I'm on the fence about Kart. All we've seen is a slightly more polished Double Dash with a few extra features, very nice graphics, and online. Then again, that's all Nintendo has wanted to share with us, and it's very possible the hype will get crazy before the game nears release.

It'll never come close to Brawl in my books, but might end up on top in overall sales. Again, it's too early to tell.

i dont think ssbb is that complicated it all, but not as simple as mario kart
brawl will sell better than mk and i have seen barely any hype at all for mariokart while brawl might be the most hyped game of all time. especially since double dash was crap and ssbm was the best. you guys are talkin about the casual audience like there idiots they can learn controls to a ame

Kart racing IS popular with girls. I know quite a few female dorm rooms that have N64s in them...and guess which game is the only game they play?

And out of all my girl friends, there's a few that like SSB64, but Melee was too fast for them...but I've got tons of friends that love Mario Kart, 64 or DD, most of them hate Super Mario Kart hehe. I don't know what the fascination is...I guess it's because it's a pretty easy game, and it does give better items to people that are losing I think.

PS:  Not that girls can only play easy games.
PPS:  But that's been my experience for nearly every girl I know...I probably know about 5 girls total that are "good" at gaming.  Sad.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'm gonna go on a relatively weak and non-sturdy limb and say that the two games will sell the exact same number of copies lifetime. That's right not even off by one.

My logic for this? Very simple; who wouldn't want both titles? Anybody buying one will naturally want to buy the other. So no matter what rates they sell at, it will eventually lead to a tumultuous tie.

This thread is now a moot point.

I think that SSBB will sell more. Sales for Smash Brothers have gone up over from the original to Melee, despite being on a smaller userbase, and sales declined from MK 64 to Double Dash. They essentially sold the same amount on their Gamecube versions. Conclusion: SSB is on its way up! It will outsell MK, but not by much.

OriGin, your points make sense...after all, Mario Kart is pretty much the only game the ladies play...even Double Dash.

But honestly...I have yet to see any polish from Mario Kart...any sign that the game will WOW me. It kinda looks like a GC game to be honest, but that's off the few screens and videos we've been given, and I'm sure it's not the final build.

But SSBB is EPIC. It is nearly perfect. It is being hyped like no other game...I do honestly believe this game is getting talked about more than the Halos even. And it could appeal to the expanded audience a little...the game is "complicated" for people that don't know much about videogames...but with the Wiimote only controls...there's not much to learn...just use the D-pad and mash the 1 and 2 buttons...it can't get much easier.

I'm basically saying that the hype and perfection of SSBB + the possible flaws of MKWii might keep MK from selling more.

The huge casual audience will LIKELY push MK past it...but we'll see.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but i think it is very hard to judge the amount of polish and effort that has been made for MKWii when all we have really seen was the first trailer and a few screenshots.. and you have pretty much pointed out that we have not seen the final build..

Now i can agree that in comparison MKWii won't be nearly as polished or jam packed full of features like SSBB, no matter what, or rather it is very unlikely for it to be.. the EPIC factor i also agree with..

But one main thing is that casual games sell like hot cakes, Mario Party 8 isn't epic in any sense of the word (well.. maybe sales when compared to quality) and it had plenty of problems, and still sold very well.. i'm sure we can agree Mario Kart is a much more popular franchise, which will no doubt draw in more frequent gamers like myself and (i'm assuming) yourself, if not for the core gameplay it has always delivered, then for the online aspect...

I just left the keyboard for like 5 mins, and I'm not really sure where i was going with this, but i think i had a point somewhere in those three paragraphs, so i'll post it anyways :P
