Why is Sony pushing 4K so much? They should try to make their giant loss making TV unit profitable in the production of LCD and LED Tv's before they start something new. Also last year we had LG pushing OLED TV's but now we don't hear anything about that, so next year there will probably be something else..

Being at the forefront of a new and hopefully popular technology would help Sony. That is probably why they're trying to push it.

Well hopefully this helps them but they will always have trouble competing with LG and Samsung's TV's since they always beat Sony's pricing.

Sony might as well just leave the TV market. I just recently purchased a Samsung 50" LED SmartTV and Best Buy and HH Gregg had the smallest Sony section I've ever seen. Sony TVs are overpriced and not any better quality wise.

What does this thread have to do with their TVs? >_>

the device works only with their own tv models.

Can't wait to see what they can do with the cloud and those 4k TVs we might get more characters on screen compared to other devices without the cloud or we might get extra abilities like seeing through clothes or being able to interact with the characters in your movies as if they were in your living rom

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

If there is a competitive 4k player that does everything Sony's player does, but with less restrictions, Sony will change its tune or loose market share. I'm not worried, and I will not support Sony if their hardware restrictions are total crap.

Scew Sony if they ever try to get tell me how I'll have to digest my entertainment. They need to sell it to me through some attractive means other than implantation with out any furtherance & promotional sales. Loyalty to a company is overrated, loyalty to competition is where it's at (from a consumers point of view).

Sony have the best 55" LED TV for gaming out right now. If that makes it worth the extra price is up to you. Personally if I had my PC hooked up to it, it would.

@JerCotter7
A quick search online and see Sony TVs being rated the best and Vizio and Samsung also being rated the top. Depends on what tech site you look at. The fact that Vizio is rated above Sony on some tech sites and is about 2/3 the price or less makes Sony even less relevant. I only went with Samsung because I got a good deal from a manager my wife knew. I was looking at the 50" Vizio M Series Razor Ultra Slim LED. I know Sony is great quality but there are manufacturers out there making as good or better TV's for a lot cheaper. Sony needs to change their model of business unless they want to go bankrupt. PS4 won't save them.

If their wishlist comes to fruition, I wonder if they can do a faster 180 than MS.

In addition to all the other complaints, it doesn't appear to have wifi?

thats insane.. I thought they forgot in the specifications but there is a footnote:

2. The Sony FMP-X1 4K Ultra Media Player is exclusively compatible with Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs (55X900A and 65X900A). Ethernet connection required. Fees may apply for 4K networked video service.

but their 4K TV all have wifi... >_>
