Forums - Sony - Sony future 4K media players: always online required

I called this the day of Sonys E3 press conference. About Blurays. Anyone who thinks PS4 wont follow is kidding themselves. It may not happen in first 2 years, but it WILL happen to PS4 and Xbox One.

Videogames is the last industry to adopt this, and if movies are even though they have MANY more revenue streams than videogames then it IS going to happen this generation.

The fact that Sony are fronting this should tell you Sony used PR at last minute on E3 to promote PS4. Its so obvious Sony want this.

I feel sorry for Microsoft, because they actually have amazing game lineups and amazing tech. ( Their OS on Xbox One is untouched ).

I also feel sorry for those who are buying PS4 expecting Sony to not introduce always online and DRM.

Sigh, companies are there to make money. Not 1% of internet forum guys happy.

Well, I would much rather be part of the 1% that doesn't just bend over and accept whatever these companies want me to.

PS4 adds always on DRM during the generation? No problem, i'll just get rid of it and pirate all of my games. They will be the ones losing out, not me.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

i would like to see what those xbone fans that defended MS's prior strategy have to say about this.

Depends on if I can share my movies with other "family" members or if I need to be constantly online or... whatever.

you still own the blueray and can sell it. this is just an anti-piracy solution. not that i agree with it. but they arent restricting used sales.

It doesn't have Bluray drive.

Umm the DRM online checkin will completely nullify Piracy. Especially the way Microsoft were going to implement it. So you would essentially have to find a new hobby.

No thanks.

I said I would get rid of my PS4.

I still have a more than capable PC. So yeah, in the end not you or them will tell me if I should find a new hobby. I will still be able to game, with or without their failed attempts at controlling MY purchases.

Now, if things continue the way they are and my hard earned $60 guarantees me ownership, then yes, i'll stick with PS4 and/or keep buying thousands of $ worth of games. However, if my hard earned $60 guarantees me no ownership, then I won't buy it and still play it through piracy.

If I don't own it then why pay? No glorified rental service for me. $60 is a hell of an asking price for "permission" to play a game.

Wait. This thing is just a streaming device? Oh. That's even worse. I like to stream stuff when I'm offline. Still not buying it though.

Well many dont mind renting of Sony via PSN Plus. So I dont really know what the issue is.

I for one will be more than happy with DRM and 24 hr checkin. As long as the family sharing stuff from MS stays in the package.

I see a horrible future up ahead if every device wont work without having Internet probably your car wont even start and you would need a license to drive in´no internet areas.
