I think the shimmering might be an issue regardless of sharping as he does do a quick bit near the end with FSR set to 0 sharpening and you still see the shimmering on the fences where as with DLSS, you don't.

Hmm must've missed that. Still a strange testing methodology, they should've tested with the same or close enough settings, my only gripe.. but still a good review and comparison of the two technologies.

Interesting how FSR 2.0 runs better on Nvidia hardware too lol,

I think he wanted to test the default settings that the devs put in for both that is out of the box since most people will just turn on FSR or DLSS and start playing instead of messing with the settings. However setting the sharpening to 0 isn't the perfect solution either by the looks of it so it's somewhere in the middle.

I am sure he will do follow up videos where he will tweak the sharpness slider. From what I hear, DLSS also has a sharpness pass but the devs didn't bother enabling the sharpening pass on DLSS so in some situations, DLSS actually looks a bit more blurry than FSR 2.0 + sharpening filter.

Tbh the devs kinda did a woopsie on both. They should have dialed down FSR 2.0 default sharpness to like 3-5 and increased DLSS sharpness.

Yes, around last X-mas. I got it then.

Please excuse my bad English.

Poor Intel. Launching their tech before their GPUs are ready.

It will be launching by the end of the year. Will probably cost at least twice as much as the Steam Deck though and we have seen the fap worthy updates that Valve has been delivering.

Well, there's still the question of how they'll cool the 6800U but, other than that, it looks like the perfect device for you, Yuri. After all, it already runs on Windows, and that means less compatibility problems.

There's the question of new drivers and such given that AMD won't do a thing, but you can check what they've done with their previous machines to get an idea of what to expect.

Also just as a sidenote, I think this is the first device including laptops that got announced with a 6800U inside

Personally I will be sticking with my 5950x for quite a while as while these CPUs will no doubt be powerful, for gaming, you probably won't need so much horse power unless you are CPU limited. The great thing about AM4 is that if you bought an older CPU like say a 3600, if you wait a few years, the CPU prices of the 5000 series will go down drastically. So you can do an in place upgrade to say a 5800X3D for a very cheap price.

The sooner, the better for all.

By the way, yesterday I was surprised when you didn't post Ada's block diagram leaked by kopite, and I'm more surprised you haven't posted it today either. High clocks all around and I dount we'll see more than 16 cores.

I gotta say, tho, that I'm a bit disappointed with AMD because it looks like they'll repeat the strategy of Zen3 and leave us without a 7700 CPU nor the lower ones until... well, maybe until Intel catches them again and they're forced to.

And yes, it will probably be better to wait because, with the need of the still expensive and hard to find DDR5 RAM, I don't think the sales will be as big as those of Zen3, and AMD may be forced to lower the prices a bit to make the new platform more attractive and get more people on board (wishful thinking, I know).

At this point, I wonder if, given the "close" release of Ada and RDNA3, Intel will try to counter that by starting to talk about Battlemage, before Alchemist even launches worldwide. It would be hilarious.
