Friday news, part two:
Fortnite adds competitive Solo Showdown mode for limited time
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-adds-competitive-solo-showdown-mode-for-limited-time/
Fortnite's latest limited time mode, Solo Showdown, doesn't actually change any of the battle royale shooter's rules, unlike all the other temporary modes we've seen. Instead, it's basically a competitive mode: you'll play against "other self-selected competitors" and be placed on a leaderboard that ranks players based on their performance in their first 50 games. The top players will win prizes—the idea is that people will take it more seriously than the regular solo queue.
Spintires: Mudrunner free 'Ridge' DLC will add a new map, mode, and vehicles
https://www.pcgamer.com/spintires-mudrunner-free-ridge-dlc-will-add-a-new-map-mode-and-vehicles/
Spintires: Mudrunner, the game about driving Soviet vehicles through Soviet mud for no particular reason, is getting new, free DLC at the end of the month called The Ridge. It adds a new coastal map to the game that's bisected by a mountain ridge players can cut across to save time—if they're willing to take the risk.
Far: Lone Sails is a lonely, contemplative journey across a barren landscape
https://www.pcgamer.com/far-lone-sails-is-a-lonely-contemplative-journey-across-a-barren-landscape/
Far: Lone Sails is described on Steam as a "vehicle adventure," but that really doesn't do the experience justice. More accurately, it's a slow, solo, contemplative journey across a barren, not-quite-realistic landscape littered with the detritus of a crumbled civilization on the run.
PUBG's 50-player deathmatch mode is back after Bluehole fixes server troubles
https://www.pcgamer.com/pubgs-50-player-deathmatch-mode-is-back-after-bluehole-fixes-server-troubles/
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Desert Knights mode, a 50-player deathmatch between ten teams of five players, lasted less than 24 hours when it launched two weeks ago. It was meant to run for three days, but developer Bluehole pulled the plug early because it was messing up the game's servers. After ironing out those issues, the mode is back, and it'll run until the end of this weekend.
Sea of Thieves' first expansion will surface on May 29
https://www.pcgamer.com/sea-of-thieves-first-major-content-update-gets-may-29-release-date/
The Hungering Deep, the first of several free major Sea of Thieves expansions, will surface on May 29, Rare has announced. The trailer (...) features a one-eye pirate telling campfire stories about terrifying deep sea monsters, which is surely a hint of what's to come. We know very little about what the update will add other than a "new AI threat", but the video teases a shark-like creature with huge jaws that swallows ships whole. The pirate also tells us that ancient seafarers were able to "summon such creatures", and the video depicts sailors playing instruments to do just that. Make of that what you will.
The Division 2 will release within the next 12 months, Ubisoft confirms

The Division 2 will release within the next year, Ubisoft has confirmed.
The sequel to online multiplayer shooter The Division was announced in March without a release window, but in a financial report released today Ubisoft said it would be out in the 2018-19 fiscal year, which ends next April. Less than 12 months to wait, then.
The Division 2 will aim for more content at launch and a better end-game than predecessor, Ubisoft says

Ubisoft is staying tight-lipped on The Division 2, the sequel to its online multiplayer shooter, until E3 next month, but some details are slowly beginning to emerge. Yesterday we learnt that the game will release within the next year, and now we know that Ubisoft is focusing on making sure it has more content at launch than The Division, as well as a better end-game.
