I think we're long due for real information regarding the launch of Ampere.

Should be March 26th with the launch shortly after.

For all I care, I hope they launch a new line of card just for crypto miners, so we can have our cards back at normal prices. And by a new line I mean that, several mining cards with different price points to catter all possible miners, because only 1 mining card at the high end could not solve the problem because gaming cards could have a better ratio of investment.

Besides, there's another problem for both AMD and Nvidia: with newer cards launching soon, miners will jump on them and we could see a situation where the second hand market gets flooded with their used cards, bringing prices down and maybe affecting sales of new cards. After all, how many would buy a 2070 that performs like a 1080Ti for 1,000 $/€ when you could buy a used 1080Ti for 400 €/$?

Talking about new GPUs, we'll soon have cards that are finally capable of running current games at 4K and at least 60fps. Because of that, and given that 8K is still too demanding, we may start seen more monitors like this one:

So, it seems like Ampere will actually be the HTC variant and Turing the gaming / mining one, the opposite of what I expected. It actually makes me slighly worried Turing could be a Pascal refresh instead of a mainstream Volta, which was more likely if the gaming variant was called Ampere since it's more correlated with Volta.

Even if Nvidia doesn't pull an AMD with a rebrand, though, this is still bound to be the most disgusting year to build a gaming PC I can ever remember, given the shortages, the price hikes on both GPU and RAM, and AMD basically non existing on the GPU side. Not to mention possibly no full-scale replacement of Intel's 14 nm offerings until well into the next year, by the looks of it.

Let's just hope next year things do look better. It certainly seems more promissing than 2018.
