https://www.pcgamer.com/sea-of-thieves-closed-beta-returns-this-weekend-for-more-server-testing/
Arr, mateys! If you're looking for another chance to be a pirate-slash-guinea pig, the Sea of Thieves closed beta and server stress test is returning this weekend. From Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4, anyone who has already participated in the closed beta for Rare's open world multiplayer pirate game will be able to climb aboard the servers again.
Her Story creator's next project, #WarGames, launching this month
https://www.pcgamer.com/her-story-creators-next-project-wargames-launching-this-month/
#WarGames is a new interactive story by Her Story creator Sam Barlow. Barlow describes it as a modern-day reimagining of 1983's WarGames, a movie about a young hacker nearly causing World War III. It's slated to debut on March 14 on Eko, a platform built around series that invite viewers to participate in their stories.
Darwin Project debuts on Steam Early Access next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/darwin-project-debuts-on-steam-early-access-next-week/
Darwin Project, the Hunger Games-styled battle royale/survival romp through the Canadian north, will hit Steam Early Access on March 9, developer Scavengers Studio announced today. The Early Access launch marks "the next stage of development," and all the features that were seen in the most recent beta test are now permanent elements of the game.
Mining horde shooter Deep Rock Galactic comes to Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/mining-horde-shooter-deep-rock-galactic-comes-to-steam/
Deep Rock Galactic is a co-op horde shooter where you and your friends are all dwarves trying to shoot bugs and mine ore. When we first played it last November, it felt like a tense and innovative horde shooter. When James played it last month, he found it enjoyable but thin, with plenty of room for improvement in its long-planned Steam Early Access campaign. Which is timely enough, because Deep Rock Galactic recently hit Early Access.
Chase a missing person in beautifully bizarre adventure game Beckett
https://www.pcgamer.com/chase-a-missing-person-in-beautifully-bizarre-adventure-game-beckett/
Even after watching its trailer, I'm struggling to come up with an appropriate description for Beckett, so for now I'll let developer The Secret Experiment, who advises you come into the game with an open mind, do the talking.
Thimbleweed Park's 'Ransome Unbeeped' DLC sends in the F-bomb clown
https://www.pcgamer.com/thimbleweed-parks-ransome-unbeeped-dlc-sends-in-the-f-bomb-clown/
Ransome the Clown is a foul-mouthed character in Thimbleweed Park, the retro-styled point-and-click adventure released last year by Terrible Toybox. Not in a way that will get you kicked out of nice restaurants, though: His way with words is softened in the game through the liberal use of the censor's bleeper every time he speaks. But if you'd prefer to play the game uncensored—Ransome Raw, you might say—then the new "Ransome Unbeeped" DLC could be just what you're looking for.
Funcom's Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a blend of XCOM, Fallout, and Daffy Duck
https://www.pcgamer.com/funcoms-mutant-year-zero-road-to-eden-is-a-blend-of-xcom-fallout-and-daffy-duck/
The Funcom countdown we stumbled across last week recently ticked down to zero, and I'm sorry to say that it is not a Stalker MMO. It still looks like it might be cool, though. It's a "tactical adventure game" called Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden that blends turn-based combat with real-time exploration on a ruined, "post-human Earth."
This year's Battlefield is rumored to be set during World War 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-years-battlefield-is-rumored-to-be-set-during-world-war-2/
We know a new Battlefield game is releasing this year: publisher EA confirmed as much in January. So the most pressing question now is what kind of Battlefield game it will be, and according to new rumors, the October instalment will be set during World War 2.
Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord unveils camel mounts
https://www.pcgamer.com/mount-blade-2-bannerlord-unveils-camel-mounts/
Midnight at the Oasis, send your camel to bed. Daybreak in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, wake your camel up and prepare it for war.
After spending the last several weeks teasing its Vlandians, Aserai and Calradic Empire factions, Bannerlord developer Taleworlds has now revealed camels as a new-to-series mount for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord.
Sea of Thieves explores its time-respecting character creator
https://www.pcgamer.com/sea-of-thieves-explores-its-character-customisation-suite-that-respects-your-time/
Character creation is a touchy subject in the PC Gamer office. Personally, I'm one of those players who spends too much time tinkering, striving to achieve the 'perfect' build. Sea of Thieves' time-respecting customisation suite, then, sounds like my cup of rum.
Bear witness to Far Cry 5's PC graphics options
https://www.pcgamer.com/bear-witness-to-far-cry-5s-pc-graphics-options/
Far Cry 5 is just a few weeks away and we finally had the opportunity to get our hands on the PC version. It looks amazing, but more important to most players will be how many buttons and gears they can tinker with to optimize it for their system. While we're still waiting on code to see how Far Cry 5 runs, we can at least eyeball the graphics settings and display options until then. Keep in mind that this is a preview build, so what you see is subject to change.
Far Cry 5 won't have loot boxes, but it will have microtransactions
https://www.pcgamer.com/far-cry-5-wont-have-loot-boxes-but-it-will-have-microtransactions/
A Ubisoft representative confirmed that Far Cry 5 will not have loot boxes or any chance systems involving microtransactions. It will have a season pass, but as one of the first so-called triple-A launches of 2018, you might take this as a sign that last fall's loot box trend won't carry on with every publisher and big release.
Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia leads King Anaraut into battle, details 'Fame' victory condition
https://www.pcgamer.com/total-war-saga-thrones-of-britannia-leads-welsh-king-anaraut-into-battle-details-fame-victory-condition/
Hot on the heels of Alfred the Great and Gaelic king Flann Sinna, Wales' King Anaraut enters the throes of Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.
Son of Rhodri the Great, Anaraut looks to grow his homeland into a new and prosperous kingdom that spans the entirety of the Welsh peninsula—in order to "win the pride of its people and cement his own place in history".
Hearthstone Ranked Play restored, everyone is getting free card packs (Updated)
https://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstone-ranked-play-has-been-disabled-seemingly-due-to-a-major-bug/
Update: A Hearthstone hotfix is now in place, Ranked Play has been restored, and everything should be working as it's meant to. Naturally, Blizzard feels bad about the whole thing, and that's good news for you.
