Dark Souls II producer Takeshi Miyazoe promises the company has learned from the mistakes made with the PC port of the first game – and that the sequel will run more smoothly. The original game was mired in problems on PC when it was released in August 2012 with an abysmal frame rate, locked resolution…
Killer Instinct studio Double Helix Games is said to be working on a sci-fi shooter for next-gen formats. It follows a recent concept art leak, along with fresh rumblings from the development community.
EverQuest Next Landmark could enter an alpha phase in late January, according to a tease from developer Sony Online Entertainment.
Tom Clancy’s The Division is coming to PC after many requests from the gaming community. However, it won’t simply be a slap-dash port. Ubisoft Massive has pledged a fully-optimised experience.
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft developer Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the card battler’s open beta has been delayed into January.
The Stanley Parable is now available to the Mac fans among us, having recently launched in OS-X flavour. It’s part of the Steam Holiday Sale today, actually, so if you’re keen to check it out you can do so at a relatively low cost. I quite recommend it.
Thanks, GameInformer.
“You folks have been giving us a bunch of great feedback on the forums,” deadpans Spacebase lead designer JP LeBreton. “And definitely one thing we’ve been unequivocally hearing from all comers is ‘More My Fair Lady references’. And so that’s what this title is really all about. We’re really just giving you what you want.”
He is a silly man. But DF-9’s third alpha update’s title also alludes to its headline feature - meteor showers, unpredictably winging their way towards your Spacebase to rip dramatic chunks out of it.
I don’t spend a lot of time balking, because I’m not really clear on the definition. But balk is what I did upon first realising what was required of me to set up a simple Minecraft multiplayer server.
To follow a series of arcane steps and be told that I must look deep within my own router to find the way was a big ask for me, and I knew what I was working for. Can you imagine a child doing the same, or their PC gaming illiterate parent?
Minecraft Realms is a subscription service from Mojang which does that lost evening of router-bothering for you. It’s now in beta in Sweden.
Summoners, as Riot call them, don’t need to be told that an ever-growing roster of champions and a tactical core kept burning by real-life humans ensures League of Legends endless variation. But a handful of maps and just two primary game modes also means it’s perhaps too focused for some of the creative minds that’ve flocked to the Santa Monica studio in recent years.
Showdown is the antidote to that - an experimental mode designed to shake Riot and their players from inertia in a (marginally) less competitive environment. You can play it today.
There was a time, fondly remembered, where one only had to worry about Steam setting fire to wallets and draining everyone of their Christmas cash, but ever since Green Man Gaming started trying to get in on the action, it's been like a war, where our bank accounts get caught in the crossfire.
Today, Green Man Gaming launched "Dealsford", its winter village filled with sales. It boasts over 2000 deals waiting to be uncovered, with each quaint house representing a publisher. Expect daily deals, flash sales, special giveaways and all sorts of festive, money draining shenanigans from today until January 6.

This week, the lights were finally turned off in Warhammer Online, and it ceased to exist in any tangible way. Now it's in MMO heaven, playing the harp very poorly. But could there still be a way to play it, to resurrect it as, if not the MMO we remember, at least a single-player ghost?
Ex-Warhammer Online engineer Andrew Meggs suggests that this is indeed possible.
With FTL: Advanced Edition firing up its engines, Subset Games are spilling the beans on some of the new features being added to this free update, most notably the Lanius, a bunch of rather unfriendly robotic scavengers. "The Lanius have rarely been seen in Federation Space, and no official diplomatic contact has ever been recorded. One widely held theory blames the Lanius for why there is so little evidence of ancient civilizations; the Lanius simply absorbed them." They sound lovely.
One of the big features that set the Lanius apart from the other races is that they don't need life support. They actually drain oxygen from any compartment they're hanging around in, which will no doubt making employing on of them on a ship filled with organic lifeforms quite tricky.
Dota 2's latest update went live a couple of days ago, bringing with it all manner of bug fixes, animation tweaks, rewards for crafting badges during the Steam Holiday Sale, and most notably: a cork hat for your sniper if you buy a ticket for the Defense of the Australians competition next summer. Streuth.
OnGamers has an extensive breakdown of the update, and you can plaster your eyes all over the changelog below.
Earlier this year I raved about how great a game Gun Monkeys is and how disappointing it was that no one was playing it. Seeing as the game is multiplayer only, you can’t play the game unless there are other people online too.
Gun Monkeys isn’t the only game to find its servers bereft of players. There’s a whole host of old games that it’s nigh on impossible to play online because of empty servers. In cases like Gun Monkeys where you can't play wihout others, essentially making owning the game a waste.
Well, Reddit is coming to the rescue with r/emptygames.
Ludum Dare, the popular 48 hour game jam, continues to grow. The most recent jam received more than 2,000 submissions. This time all the games were based on the theme of ‘You Only Get One’.
I've not seen any references to Eminem yet but I'm still looking.
Three-man indie team Stoic are a bunch of BioWare veterans. Evidence of them fighting in the Old Republic war is all over their latest project The Banner Saga: a tactical RPG that pushes choice right to the forefront. Whether it’s a terribly misplaced arrow shot in its turn-based combat sections, or muttering the wrong word in a crucial diplomatic conversation, The Banner Saga takes those decisions to heart. It may be seconds later or several hours before your choices manifest into reactions, but the likely result is you’ll have blood to wash out.
Perhaps there are cheerier outcomes to The Banner Saga’s choices, but during my time with the game I found that everything I touched either got fairly annoyed with me or turned into quivering bags of blood and bone.
Dreamfall Chapters has received some new gameplay footage with commentary, showcasing an area called Friar’s Keep.
Square Enix has unlocked its mystery Christmas Surprise bundle, revealing which four games you all bought for £4.99.
Elite: Dangerous studio Frontier Developments has confirmed that its space sim now includes Oculus Rift, 3D TV and Track IR support.
Thomas was a bit upset by the recent delay for Star Citizen’s dogfighting module. While Cloud Imperium has not given any ETA yet for this module, it has released a new video that gives us a taste of that pre-alpha version that will never see the light of day. Now I’ll agree with both Roberts and Thomas. Yes, the dogfighting module is certainly not polished (though the explosion effects look sweet), thus some may get disappointed with it. On the other hand, though, it would be great to at least give it a go. Bummer. Anyway, enjoy your first look at Star Citizen’s dogfighting module below! Continue reading
Well, as you all know, we love Doom. We adore almost all the mods that have been released for it, and we are really looking forward to some that are currently under development. So, today we bring you a new video from Brutal Doom and DooM the mercenaries. The new video for Brutal Doom showcases some new blood pools, while the video for DooM the mercenaries shows off the progress that has been made to it thus far. Enjoy! Continue reading
YouTube’s ‘ADRIANF1esp’ has made a comparison between Project CARS and Assetto Corsa. Assetto Corsa is a PC exclusive DX11 racing game that comes with an amazing physics model and is more of a sim racer. Project CARS, on the other hand, is a visually stunning title that targets PC and next-gen consoles. Enjoy and tell us which you think looks better. Continue reading
Ragequit Corporation has released a new beta trailer for its aerial combat title, Strike Vector, and announced that its open beta phase will go live this coming January. Strike Vector is a new kind of fast FPS which takes place in the sky in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world. As its description reads, ‘in the pure tradition of the sacred monsters of hardcore FPS such as Quake 3, Strike Vector will offer you a massive challenge if you want to stand against the best players.’ Kudos to RPS for spotting it. Enjoy! Continue reading
Well here is a nice surprise. All hell has broken loose the moment PC gamers found out that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance would not support resolutions higher than 1080p. Blasphemy. How can this be? Well, it appears that Platinum Games’ Creative Producer, JP Kellams, is a big fan of the PC platform and will try to both create a passion for PC gaming in Japan and let people know – the team behind MGR: Revengeance – that resolutions higher than 1080p aren’t so extreme as they thought them to be. Well that was quick. DICE has launched a new update for Battlefield 4 that addresses those annoying flickering issues that occurred on multi-GPU systems. This new update is 170MB in size and comes with some additional fixes for ‘three of the top crash issues on the PC platform.’ So, does this mean that the game will actually be playable this time around? We certainly hope so. You can view the complete changelog for this new BF4 update below. Continue reading

Great.
I can't reach the end as the game is now, and now they add even more enemies that are harder to kill.

Also, about P. Cars vs Assetto Corsa, it's amazing how the same car and circuit can be so different from one game to another.

“As you’ve guessed it, Mercenary Kings will not be available for the 2013 calendar year,” wrote Tribute Games. “We’re extremely grateful and excited about people asking for the game on PS4 or the completed version on Steam. It was our hope to have it completed and in your hands for the holidays but the game is not in the shape it needs to be for it’s official, full release.”
That’s ok for us PC folk, though, we can get Mercenary Kings through Steam Early Access.
Turn-based 4x strategy game Horizon just got significantly bigger. It’s currently in beta and on sale through Steam Early Access so it’s no big surprise it’s been updated but the size of the release is impressive. There are seven new playable races and 84 new ships spread among them.
Not happy with the races on offer? You can also now fully customise one with the race templates.
With Oculus Rift developer kits now in backers’ hands, there’s been a flood of announcements from games makers saying their games will support the virtual reality headset. It’s becoming difficult to remember which games support putting your face in them.
Valve recognise this is becoming an issue and have added a search filter allowing you to browse those games alone when looking for something new to buy.
Door Kickers scratches a tactical itch that’s been left unsatisfied since Swat 4 and the early Rainbow Six games. It doesn’t matter that it’s a top down shooter instead of first-person, you should definitely all go and buy it. Better still, seeing as it’s still in alpha it’s receiving updates left, right, and centre.
The latest release lets you record and share your replays. they should all be getting a darn sight more impressive, too, considering how much tougher the enemies have become with their new AI.
Just in time for Christmas, Unknown Worlds have released Natural Selection 2’s build 262. The major concern of the new update is a remake of the original mod’s most popular map: Eclipse.
“Painstakingly recreated, the map is faithful to the original while allowing for the evolution of Natural Selection 2 gameplay,” writes Hugh Jeremy, the game’s producer. “By taking advantage of Spark’s modern rendering techniques and UWE’s art resources, the mapping team has been able to remake every corner of Eclipse in exquisite detail.”
