That belongs in a museum: Warhammer Online engineer wants to preserve the dead MMO

Comment

This week, the lights were finally turned off in Warhammer Online, and it ceased to exist in any tangible way. Now it's in MMO heaven, playing the harp very poorly. But could there still be a way to play it, to resurrect it as, if not the MMO we remember, at least a single-player ghost?

Ex-Warhammer Online engineer Andrew Meggs suggests that this is indeed possible

FTL: Advanced Edition gets scavenging robots and a brand new ship

Comment

With FTL: Advanced Edition firing up its engines, Subset Games are spilling the beans on some of the new features being added to this free update, most notably the Lanius, a bunch of rather unfriendly robotic scavengers. "The Lanius have rarely been seen in Federation Space, and no official diplomatic contact has ever been recorded. One widely held theory blames the Lanius for why there is so little evidence of ancient civilizations; the Lanius simply absorbed them." They sound lovely.

One of the big features that set the Lanius apart from the other races is that they don't need life support. They actually drain oxygen from any compartment they're hanging around in, which will no doubt making employing on of them on a ship filled with organic lifeforms quite tricky.

r/emptygames wants to fill the servers of desolate multiplayer games

Comment

Earlier this year I raved about how great a game Gun Monkeys is and how disappointing it was that no one was playing it. Seeing as the game is multiplayer only, you can’t play the game unless there are other people online too.

Gun Monkeys isn’t the only game to find its servers bereft of players. There’s a whole host of old games that it’s nigh on impossible to play online because of empty servers. In cases like Gun Monkeys where you can't play wihout others, essentially making owning the game a waste.

Well, Reddit is coming to the rescue with r/emptygames.

Hands on with The Banner Saga: getting young men killed because I’m a crap father

Comments1

Three-man indie team Stoic are a bunch of BioWare veterans. Evidence of them fighting in the Old Republic war is all over their latest project The Banner Saga: a tactical RPG that pushes choice right to the forefront. Whether it’s a terribly misplaced arrow shot in its turn-based combat sections, or muttering the wrong word in a crucial diplomatic conversation, The Banner Saga takes those decisions to heart. It may be seconds later or several hours before your choices manifest into reactions, but the likely result is you’ll have blood to wash out.

Perhaps there are cheerier outcomes to The Banner Saga’s choices, but during my time with the game I found that everything I touched either got fairly annoyed with me or turned into quivering bags of blood and bone.

Here Is Your First Look At Star Citizen’s Dogfighting Module

Thomas was a bit upset by the recent delay for Star Citizen’s dogfighting module. While Cloud Imperium has not given any ETA yet for this module, it has released a new video that gives us a taste of that pre-alpha version that will never see the light of day. Now I’ll agree with both Roberts and Thomas. Yes, the dogfighting module is certainly not polished (though the explosion effects look sweet), thus some may get disappointed with it. On the other hand, though, it would be great to at least give it a go. Bummer. Anyway, enjoy your first look at Star Citizen’s dogfighting module below! Continue reading

Platinum Games’ Creative Producer Loves The PC, Wants To Create A Passion For PC Gaming In Japan

Well here is a nice surprise. All hell has broken loose the moment PC gamers found out that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance would not support resolutions higher than 1080p. Blasphemy. How can this be? Well, it appears that Platinum Games’ Creative Producer, JP Kellams, is a big fan of the PC platform and will try to both create a passion for PC gaming in Japan and let people know – the team behind MGR: Revengeance – that resolutions higher than 1080p aren’t so extreme as they thought them to be.
