Crusader Kings 2 mod floods the medieval world with the walking dead

Comment

If the world was struck by the zombie apocalypse today, modern fiction dictates we’d almost survive it. Of course this is a load of tosh and it’s inevitable we’d all succumb, but if we were to stand any chance the key to zombie defeat is a) guns and b) cars filled with stolen petrol. So what exactly would the chances of survival be if this hypothetical outbreak occurred before the dawn of sliced bread. Say, the middle ages? Would the sword and shield be enough? Let Crusader Kings Z provide you with the answers.

The Mandate trailer boards your ship and kills your crew

Comment

Super-exciting Kickstarter project The Mandate is off to a brilliant start, already soaring past its funding goal and now well on the pay to becoming the co-op sci-fi RPG of everyone’s spice-fuelled dreams. If one of your dreams consisted of breaching an enemy starship, sneaking on board and laying waste to its captain, then the latest trailer really is quite the treat for you.

For everyone else, Walder Frey/Argus Filch/William Hartnell narrates it. That is to say, British British actor David Bradley recites Rudyard Kipling’s The Destroyers whilst men get shot with lasers.

Introversion break out official mod support for Prison Architect

Comment

It’s not just snoring bears Lily Allen’s trill-some cover of ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ brought back from snoozeville. There’s the cacodaemon Ith’to’il, awakened from a thousand year slumber, now clawing his way up from the earth’s core to claim his birthright: the green planet and everything on it. There are the clowns of Norfolk, finally free from stasis to terrorise the good people of England’s flattest county. And there’s Introversion, now returned after two months’ hibernation.

The Prison Architect developers have readied Prison Architect’s 15th alpha update to date - a significant patch that introduces tiredness to prison staff, staff rooms to aid their recovery, a round of performance optimisations, and - most excitingly - moddy, moddy mods.

"We want to make PC gaming as simple as possible", say Nvidia

AMD have their tech in both of the new consoles, which I imagine is a bit like signing a contract ensuring your comfortable existence for the next decade. Nvidia have no such cushion - but they do get to play PC champions while their competitors remain understandably schtum.

Today, Nvidia are selling the idea of small form PCs as a like-for-like alternative to the Xbox One and PS4.

“Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC,” said consumer sales man Matt Wright.

Green Man Gaming 4-Play sale cuts digits off Super Meat Boy and Magicka

Comment

I’d started to form a thought that a 4-Play sale might be about the welcome glut of four-player co-op games we’ve had this last half-decade - Left 4 Dead, Rayman, Ghost Recon, Monaco, even Mario - but soon had that misconception buried beneath a shroud of unexpected doominess. It turns out Green Man Gaming have asked their regular bargaineers what game they’d choose to spend their last four hours on Earth with. Battlefield 4, it turns out, and Skyrim, both of which will appear in this weekend’s sales.

Evidently still hot on that number, GMG have pledged to run at least four deals every four hours, across the next four days.

So yea what is everyone playing these days?

I'm mainly playing Path of Exile and XCOM: Enemy Within at the moment. Will probably start playing through Deadly Premonition soon as well as some little stuff like 99 Spirits,

What I'm playing? Well, I don't know what to say.

I'm in the middle of lots of games (RE Revelations, FEZ, AC 3,... ), but I don't feel compelled to keep playing them. And what's worse is that I'm thinking about installing SimCity4 again and start a new city after watching vids of CitiesXL (I'll get it during Steam Winter sales, I'm sure of it).

So, honestly, I don't know what I'm playing right now .

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I know that feel, just need a good game to break yourself outta that funk. I have been feeling some of that city building itch lately myself, I played a bit of Prison Architect but that is still very early at the moment. I really want Banished to be released, that looks to have a tonne of promise even tho it's the work of mostly one guy.

Also new page so I might as well christen it with a GIF

^I've been following Prison Architect, it looks good but I'll wait for the final build. Thanks for mentioning Banished, I watched a video some time ago and found it interesting, but I didn't take note of it and I did forget it... *adds to whishlist*... not anymore.

Oh, and I've reinstalled SimCity 4.

I'm wondering if we should take a bet on how much Star Citizen can make before it actually launch. The scariest thing right now for me is that the developer will be stuck in feature creep hell. This game is almost guaranteed to miss its deadline now.

Given that I am expecting at least another 2 years before the 'soft launch' and maybe 3-6 months after that for the official launch, this game could conceivably reach a stage where the developer HAS to stop stretch goals simply to have a launch window target.

The mind boggles at how successful this game has become. What sort of game can boast to have 34 million (at this stage I am expecting 50 million tbh) dollars in the bag from customers before exiting Alpha lol.

Well keep in mind that they have no plans to stop development once the game launches. They are planning it as a persistant world title which will have a stream of content and feature updates for 5-10 years. Also most of their streatch goals (post FPS missions) are content rather than features which can be scaled by adding more artists and coders without adding too much strain on the high level designers. And some things like having an inhouse performance capture studio could reduce dev time because they can be more flexable with how and when they can do things. Also keep in mind they were originally budgeted for $20-30m as they were intending to get private funding on top of their crowd funding, in fact the crowd funding was intended as more as a proof of interest to take to investors rather than an actual means of covering development costs like it is now. For a AAA game of the scope and scale of Star Citizen $20m isn't really all that much these days anyway. And your average AAA budget is usually $20-50m and most of those don't have half the ambition of the origanal pitch for SS.

Then again it could all go horribly wrong and we could end up with a horrible mess. But I like to stay positive.

This is why I feel they will do a soft launch first, their is an extremely dedicated community that would be more than happy to beta for them and giving how invested some of these people are, and given the communication to date, I am extremely hopefu that I'll at least get a good space sim.

And TBH I couldn't give a flying fuck about the first person aspect of this game. :P

Lineage has made $1.8bn since 1998 launch

Lineage isn’t an MMO you hear much about anymore - I’d assumed it had died off years ago - but it’s just now celebrating its 15th anniversary. Not only that, NCSoft have revealed that the aged MMO has made $1.8 billion since it launched.

2014 WCS changes - How Blizzard are improving professional StarCraft 2

Comment

Here at the sharp end of the 2013 eSports calendar, we can start to see what the next year of StarCraft will look like. In the past few weeks we had the WCS Global Finals, the DreamHack Winter StarCraft 2 Finals, Red Bull Battle Grounds, IEM Singapore, and the finale of the World Cyber Games. It’s been a packed schedule, but also a diverse and entertaining one.

It’s also hopefully a sampling of what awaits us next year as Blizzard make some much-needed and long-awaited changes to their World Championship Series. If they bear fruit, we should have a 2014 competitive season that is easier to follow, more enjoyable to watch, and features a more diverse set of tournaments and players.

Metro: Last Light DLC guide

Comment

WIth Metro: Last Light going on sale today, it’s worth looking at the grab-bag of DLC associated with it. While all of it is pretty cheap, time is not, and only some of Last Light’s extra levels are really worth investigating. Some of these DLC packs are cringe-worthy, the kind of schlocky, half-baked ideas that give DLC a bad name and make things like season passes a bad value. On the other hand, some it is almost inspired, adding some of the systemic depth that Last Light’s campaign lacked.

So as you consider the Steam Autumn Sale, and are looking to return to the Metro, let’s look at what’s actually worth your time.

Towerfall Ascension has no online multiplayer

Boo, Towerfall Ascension. Boo. That’s what I say to your purely offline multiplayer. Well, that may be too harsh but, still, it’s rare that I can get four friends round to share a single screen. It’s much easier to amass a group online.

However, it’s hard to stay angry at Towerfall for too long, what with all the added content we’re getting with the PC release.

Minecrafting 125: House of Chests

Snapshot 13w48a landed this week, bringing a bunch of bug fixes like not being able to take screenshots of chat or inventories, misaligned textures, and various problems with the newly-added Twitch streaming capabilities. Shortly afterwards, we got 13w48b, fixing a few other bits and changing how you get out of Minecarts.  Nothing tremendously exciting.

Instead, all the action has been going down in the community. For starters, congratulations are in order for Curseforge on gathering together 500 Minecraft mods. We weren't that impressed by what the 500th mod actually was, so if you're making a nifty Minecraft mod, you might want to go list it there.
