I have a faint hope that they will improve the Async even more with Big Pascal. Would suck if that big push for AC actually happens and I'm stuck with subpar performance for a few years.

I don't really think the Titan P/1080Ti will be more optimized for ASync. It would be a waste to only redesign those chips for that. They'll probably wait for Volta to do it.

And, while more and more developers will use DX12 & Vulkan (less), DX11 will still be the main API in the coming years. I'd say that Async won't be the reason you'll upgrade whatever card you get.

Well, depending on my job situation for the next year I might switch from Pascal to Volta. But I can't wait any longer than big Pascal.

Then just upgrade to Volta cause hoping that they'll instantaneously improve the microarchitecture in less than 6 months is wishful thinking when it takes months to validate silicon and do hardware debugging ...

Async shouldn't even be a factor at all for Nvidia when their really good at plowing through geometry heavy passes in a game. Personally speaking there are a quarter dozen or so worse things that could happen to Nvidia like Microsoft ruining shader model 6 for them just like what happened to the GeForce FX series with shader model 2 ...

Can't wait for Volta. My 980ti is shit for 1440p.

Then dump your big Pascal into the market once Volta comes out ...

You retain a lot of your value from your recently purchased GPU while also treasuring your new GPUs new features, it's as easy as that ...

I'm strongly considering the constant upgrade path ...

DYNASTY WARRIORS SPIN-OFF BERSERK GETS 2016 WESTERN LAUNCH DATE

http://www.pcgamer.com/dynasty-warriors-spin-off-berserk-gets-2016-western-launch-date/

When we first learned the next Dynasty Warriors spin-off will be based on the long-running dark fantasy manga series Berserk at E3 last month, Wes described the decision as a “no brainer”. I’d struggle to argue with that, and while a Japanese launch was initially confirmed this side of the year, it seemed a western port would likely slip into 2017 at the time. The publisher’s western arm has now formally confirmed it’ll head west in autumn 2016, and celebrated with the launch of a new English language website.

RIMWORLD DEV HALTS STEAM KEY SALES AFTER "GETTING HAMMERED BY FRAUDSTERS"

http://www.pcgamer.com/rimworld-dev-halts-steam-key-sales-after-getting-hammered-by-fraudsters/

When the sci-fi colony sim RimWorld debuted on Steam Early Access last week, developer Tynan Sylvester asked—gently—that anyone looking to buy it do so directly from the Ludeon Studios website. “This way, we get significantly more of the money, since Steam isn’t taking their cut,” he wrote. “You can still immediately grab your Steam key and put the game on your Steam account.”

GARY BUSEY IS COMING TO HITMAN AS AN ELUSIVE TARGET

Back in March, Io Interactive held an unusual poll, asking Hitman fans if they'd rather kill Gary Busey or Gary Cole. Both are worthy choices, but in the end there can be only one—and the bullet goes to Busey.

TEASER AND LEAK HINT AT NEW HEARTHSTONE ADVENTURE, WITH KARAZHAN THE LIKELY THEME

http://www.pcgamer.com/teaser-and-leak-suggest-new-hearthstone-adventure-is-coming-with-karazhan-the-likely-theme/

If you play Hearthstone regularly, you’ll be able to recognise the feeling when you’ve had exactly enough of the current meta. For me, it was queuing into five straight Shaman decks, all of which opened with Tunnel Trogg into Totem Golem or coined Feral Spirt. So, it’s nice to see signs that Blizzard is about to announce the next adventure mode. For those who don’t play regularly, these are the snack-sized expansions, like Curse of Naxxramas and League of Explorers, which appear between the big card sets.

Blizzard said the patch will incorporate “a wide variety of features and content... including system changes, quality-of-life improvements, and major in-game events,” some of it available immediately, and some you'll have to wait for.

OBSIDIAN CEO: “I’D LOVE TO TURN ETERNITY INTO MORE LIKE A SKYRIM PRODUCT”

http://www.pcgamer.com/obsidian-ceo-id-love-to-turn-eternity-into-more-like-a-skyrim-product/

Although not officially announced as yet, work on the sequel to Obsidian’s charming and wonderful crowdfunded role-player Pillars of Eternity was all but confirmed back in May, when the company’s CEO Feargus Urquhart suggested it “seems silly” not to acknowledge the project’s existence. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Urquhart now says the developer is “starting to move forward on Pillars of Eternity 2,” and that making a 3D action-RPG—similar to Skyrim but within the Pillars universe—is something he’d love to do down the line.

As expected Nvidia staying competitive in power and pricing in the midrange. Though I didn't really expect the 1060 to beat the 480 so easily.

Nvidia has caught AMD with their pants down in terms of performance, no doubts about it. They have the high end market locked with the 1070&1080, and with the 1060 they're also very, very competitive in the mid range one.

It's only in the low end market where AMD can really cause them trouble, which isn't that great as it's also the market with the smaller profit margins. That said, AMD wanted to regain marketshare with Polaris, and even if it comes from the low end, they look like they'll be able to do it.

What does AMD have in the low end that's not already dominated by Intel and Nvidia? I doubt that APUs are very common in prebuilds where most of the low end is. Polaris is only midrange and currently outperformed by the 1060 in both performance and availability. Do you really think that 30 bucks less for less performance will make a big difference?

That leaves themn with only 2 options to make a big splash this year, Zen and Vega. Vega will probably outperform a 1080 and will then be crushed by Big Pascal soon after. Zen might as well have the same performance and IPC as Intel and would still probably be left behind. If anything the coming gens for AMD's products are only little stepping stones to a hopefully better gen after it. Then again Intel and Nvidia aren't resting on their laurels. It kinda feels hopeless.
