THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT – NEW SCREENSHOTS FOR BLOOD AND WINE EXPANSION RELEASED

http://www.dsogaming.com/screenshot-news/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-new-screenshots-for-blood-and-wine-expansion-released/

CD Projekt RED has just released some new screenshots for the second major expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Blood and Wine. The Witcher 3 looks amazing and these new screenshots showcase the new environments and enemies that CD Projekt RED created for this new expansion.

I've just seen some screenshots in VGC's article http://www.vgchartz.com/article/264117/the-witcher-iii-blood-and-wine-screenshots-released/ , and they somehow reminded me of the colourful, but eerie and dangerous gardens of the castle in Ecstatica II.

I agree that those screenshots don't look like anything else in the world of The Witcher 3. This one in particular doesn't even look from a game but from a Disney movie.

Yes, or also some southwestern mushroom wood or the Telvanni district in Morrowind.

If the PS4K becomes real it will be bad news for PC gaming, performance wise ...

Instead of this ...

900P@30FPS (Med/High) for X1
1080P@30FPS (Med/High) For PS4

We'll be getting this ...

720P@30FPS (Low) for X1
900P@30FPS (Low) For PS4
1080p@30FPS (Med/High) for PS4K

Not many people who take the PCMR meme seriously we'll be able to claim the so called 60FPS advantage for AAA games since since more AAA devs will be tempted to raise the baseline ...

Not even a Titan X will be safe anymore ...

^And I think you're being optimistic

I don't expect devs to put much effort on PS4K games until the install base reaches 10 millions, and I doubt they'll really focus on it until it has half of the total PS4 sales. There's no reason to prioritize a game version that will sell hundreds of thousands over one that will sell millions, and I don't expect the PS4 and X1 versions to suffer from it for the same reason, at least the next 12-18 months.

I think it may be something like this for the next couple of 12-18 months

900P@30FPS (Med) for X1
1080P@30FPS (Med/High) For PS4
1080p@30FPS (Very High) for PS4K

It's easier (and probably cheaper) to simply push the visuals a bit further to make use of the extra GPU power of the PS4K.

Beyond that, I can actually see the PS4 suffering the most as devs focus more on PS4K and less on the PS4, to a point where we could see something like

900P@30FPS (Low/Med) for X1
900P@30FPS (Low/Med) For PS4
1080p@30FPS (High) for PS4K

The Install base of the PS4K doesn't have to reach 10 million ...

There doesn't have to be different versions of the game. Just different code ...

Sooner or later devs will be familiar with all of the quirks of the original PS4's GPU and they'll probably have no where to go but to optimize for the PS4K ...

As far as regular PS4 suffering enough to the point where it reaches parity with the X1 because of specific optimizations towards the PS4K, I highly doubt that will happen since they both practically have the exact same GPU microarchitecture ...

My comment wasn't from a technical point of view but from a business one. With that in mind, it makes little business sense to focus or put much effort, time and money into PS4K as most of the money will be made by the other consoles.

And then, when/if PS4K catches popularity and starts to take over the regular PS4, I can see developers shifting they focus to the newer console and make simple X1 to PS4 ports without trying to push the regular PS4 to what it can actually do.

MOJANG RELEASES A FREE STRATEGY GAME CALLED CROWN AND COUNCIL

http://www.pcgamer.com/mojang-strategy-game-crown-and-council/

Minecraft studio Mojang has, entirely without warning, released a brand-new game on Steam called Crown and Council. It's a “casual strategy game of geopolitical drama,” originally created for a game jam, with 75 included maps and a built-in generator that can create new ones on the fly, and it's entirely free.

MAGICKA: WIZARD WARS IS CLOSING IN JULY

http://www.pcgamer.com/magicka-wizard-wars-is-closing-in-july/

A little over a year after leaving Early Access on Steam, the free-to-play multiplayer MOBA Magicka: Wizard Wars is coming to a close. Publisher Paradox Interactive said it kept the lights on for as long as it could, but the game has been losing money for the past nine months and the time has come to pull the plug.

MASQUERADA: SONGS AND SHADOWS SEEKS A FINAL PUSH ON KICKSTARTER

http://www.pcgamer.com/masquerada-songs-and-shadows-seeks-a-final-push-on-kickstarter/

We first encountered Masquerada: Songs and Shadows, “an RPG about masks and magic,” in early 2015. It caught our attention with a bright, colorful isometric visual style, and its real-time-but-also-pausable combat, which we took a closer look at last August. It was originally slated for release this spring, but developer Witching Hour Studios is hoping that a Kickstarter campaign will enable it to spend a little extra time on the game, to “add the final touches."

OVERWATCH DIRECTOR SAYS BLIZZARD "FAILED HORRIFICALLY" ON CANCELED TITAN MMO

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-director-says-blizzard-failed-horrifically-on-canceled-titan-mmo/

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime was a bit vague when he spoke in 2014 about the studio's reasons for pulling the plug on the MMO Titan after seven years in development. “We didn't find the fun," he said at the time. "We didn't find the passion.” But in a recent interview with Gamespot, Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan was a bit blunter about the state of the game when the axe finally fell.

"OBVIOUSLY THERE'S GOING TO BE ANOTHER BORDERLANDS," SAYS GEARBOX

http://www.pcgamer.com/obviously-theres-going-to-be-another-borderlands-says-gearbox/

Good, if entirely unshocking news: there's going to be another Borderlands. Gearbox CEO and president Randy Pitchford confirmed as much at the ongoing PAX East, stating in no uncertain terms that "it's no secret, obviously there's going to be another Borderlands".

COSSACKS 3 BETA SIGNUPS BEGIN

http://www.pcgamer.com/cossacks-3-beta-signups-begin/

In case you missed it, GSC Gameworld—developer of the STALKER series—is back from the grave. And no, they've not announced another STALKER game. They're making Cossacks 3 instead, a sequel/remake to their 2001 historical real-time strategy game, which they describe on their website as "a genuine RTS classic". Well, why not. Since Phil relayed the news last year, there have been a few new videos of the game uploaded, and I'll include a couple below—but how would you like to play it for yourself?

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S: SISTER LOCATION TEASED

http://www.pcgamer.com/five-nights-at-freddys-sister-location-teased/

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 was supposed to be the final game in the animatronic horror series, except, of course, for that spin-off we'd all probably rather forget. Now there is to be another FNaF, seemingly titled Sister Location, as teased on creator Scott Cawthon's site.

CHRONICLE OF RUIN MASHES UP FIRE EMBLEM, FINAL FANTASY VI, FF TACTICS

http://www.pcgamer.com/chronicle-of-ruin-mashes-up-fire-emblem-final-fantasy-vi-ff-tactics/

Chronicle of Ruin (best of luck trying to remember the name) is a big, ambitious mash-up of Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle, or so says its Kickstarter page anyway. It's being made by one guy, and unlike most of the absurdly grand RPGs made by one guy, this one actually looks pretty good.

THE SNAKE MMO BIDS YOU KISS YOUR WORK DAY GOODBYE

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-snake-mmo-bids-you-kiss-your-work-day-goodbye/

Well I think we can call today a write-off what with the discovery of Slither, which is essentially Snake: The MMO. It runs in your browser, and if the IT department has already blocked it, consider finding yourself a new job. Or school. If you are the IT department, have some compassion.
