And here are the Friday gaming news.

Sadly, DSOG was down most of the time (maybe another Cloudfare or whatever problem, don’t know) so most of their articles didn’t make it to this post:

Part two of the Friday gaming news:

007 First Light's first villain is Lenny Kravitz, and I bet he's not going to get away
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/007-first-lights-first-villain-is-lenny-kravitz-and-i-bet-hes-not-going-to-get-away/
What do Telly Savalas, Christopher Walken, Sean Bean, Yaphet Kotto, Sophie Marceau, Donald Pleasance, and Lenny Kravitz all have in common? They're all Bond villains—or at least, they will be: A leaked trailer has revealed that Kravitz will be the face, hair, and spectacularly chiselled abs of Bawma, an elusive target a criminal mastermind in the upcoming 007 First Light.

Fallout 4 was initially set in New York because it's 'something grand and American' and Nick Valentine capped-off the very first design document: 'I think the photo was of Humphrey Bogart'
https://www.pcgamer.com/movies-tv/fallout-4-was-initially-set-in-new-york-because-its-something-grand-and-american-and-nick-valentine-capped-off-the-very-first-design-document-i-think-the-photo-was-of-humphrey-bogart/
PC Gamer's latest issue is a Fallout bonanza, going over the entire history of one of the greatest gaming series with many of the key figures behind it. Among the topics covered are why Todd Howard wouldn't let the usual "videogame directors" touch the series, the disquiet of New Vegas' lead writer about the lack of credit and residuals in the Amazon TV show, the shaky launch of Fallout 76, and the early concept for Fallout 4 and its most-beloved character.
Well, Nick Valentine's my favourite anyway. PCG's Ted Litchfield interviewed Bethesda's design director Emil Pagliarulo who, with Thief's Garrett as the launching point, went into detail on the early stages of Fallout 4, when the game was set in New York (it would end up being set in Boston).

Rockstar now says fired employees were let go because they revealed 'specific game features from upcoming and unannounced titles' in a public forum
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rockstar-now-says-fired-employees-were-let-go-because-they-revealed-specific-game-features-from-upcoming-and-unannounced-titles-in-a-public-forum/
Like a large jaw with a preternaturally strong grip on the teeth it contains, Rockstar has let slip another half-detail about its reasons for firing more than 30 people in October, telling IGN that they were let go for revealing details about games that haven't even been announced yet.

Some of the stars of Baldur's Gate 3 and Final Fantasy 16 will be blessing Solasta 2 with their voices
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/some-of-the-stars-of-baldurs-gate-3-and-final-fantasy-16-will-be-blessing-solasta-2-with-their-voices/
The voice acting in Solasa: Crown of the Magister wasn't its strong point. That was the tactical battles making use of 3D space and terrain, as well as the fidelity to D&D's rules and vibe. The acting, well, the acting could charitably have been called enthusiastic.
As developer Tactical Adventures revealed at The Game Awards, by contrast Solasta 2 will have a cast stacked with talent. We'd already heard Amelia Tyler (the narrator of Baldur's Gate 3, Hecate in Hades 2) as the villainous Shadwyn, but another BG3 alumnus, Devora Wilde (Lae'zel in Baldur's Gate 3, Tzarina Katarin in Total War: Warhammer 3), will be playing Deorcas Colwall, "A formidable warrior whose grief has driven her to doubt her faith, leading her down a path of darkness."

Larian reveals Divinity, its 'biggest game ever,' that will be 'even larger than Baldur's Gate 3'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/larian-reveals-its-divinity-its-biggest-game-ever-even-larger-than-baldurs-gate-3/
After a mysterious desert statue and trademark-filing snafu, Larian has officially unveiled its next game after Baldur's Gate 3 at The Game Awards. Larian is returning to its home-grown fantasy series with a new entry simply titled Divinity. We do not yet have gameplay or a release window, but Geoff Keighley described it as Larian's "biggest game ever," and "even larger than Baldur's Gate 3."

I'm sad to report that you cannot romance the space octopus in Exodus, the Matthew McConaughey-starring space opera RPG from former BioWare devs
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/im-sad-to-report-that-you-cannot-romance-the-space-octopus-in-exodus-the-matthew-mcconaughey-starring-space-opera-rpg-from-former-bioware-devs/
Tonight at The Game Awards, we got our latest look at Exodus, the Matthew McConaughey-starring space RPG from a studio founded by BioWare veterans, which—if we're being entirely honest—has looked a lot like Mass Effect in previous showings.

The next official D&D videogame won't be anything like Baldur's Gate 3: 'We're making a third-person action-adventure open world game that focuses on the warlock'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/the-next-official-d-and-d-videogame-wont-be-anything-like-baldurs-gate-3-were-making-a-third-person-action-adventure-open-world-game-that-focuses-on-the-warlock/
As revealed in a teaser trailer soundtracked by Tool in The Game Awards, Invoke Studios—one of Wizards of the Coasts' internal videogame developers—is working on a new Dungeons & Dragons videogame called Warlock. And no, it's not going to be anything like Baldur's Gate 3.

The new Control game isn't a shooter, it's not set in the Oldest House, and it doesn't star Jesse Faden—but, y'know, otherwise it seems like a faithful follow-up
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/the-new-control-game-isnt-a-shooter-its-not-set-in-the-oldest-house-and-it-doesnt-star-jesse-faden-but-yknow-otherwise-it-seems-like-a-faithful-follow-up/
When it comes to developer Remedy, you should always expect the unexpected. So we probably shouldn't be surprised to discover that its new Control sequel, announced at The Game Awards tonight, swerves on pretty much everything you'd think would carry over from the first game.

Tomb Raider comes to The Game Awards with not just one but two new games: a 're-imagining' and an all-new adventure
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/tomb-raider-comes-to-the-game-awards-with-not-just-one-but-two-new-games-a-re-imagining-and-an-all-new-adventure/
After years of waiting, Tomb Raider fans now have not just one but two new games to look forward to: A remake of the 1996 original called Legacy of Atlantis, and a surprise new addition to the series, Tomb Raider: Catalyst.

Jonathan Blow's new game has the most 'Jonathan Blow's new game' pitch imaginable: A 'game design supercollider' that takes 4 puzzle games and jams them together into a 500-hour saga
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/puzzle/jonathan-blows-new-game-has-the-most-jonathan-blows-new-game-pitch-imaginable-a-game-design-supercollider-that-takes-4-puzzle-games-and-jams-them-together-into-a-500-hour-saga/
Nine years on from The Witness, Jonathan Blow would, once again, quite like you to solve his puzzles. He'd like you to solve quite a lot of them, actually. Revealed during The Game Awards, Order of the Sinking Star is a big box of proper stumpers that's deep enough to drown in.

Diablo 4's highly anticipated paladin class is playable today, before its second expansion launches next year
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/diablo-4s-highly-anticipated-paladin-class-is-playable-today-before-its-second-expansion-launches-next-year/
The rumors are true: Paladins are coming to Diablo 4. It's been 25 years since the class first appeared in Diablo 2 in all its holy glory, and now it's making a return to the series with Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred expansion. But even though the expansion won't be out until early next year, paladins will be available starting today for anyone who pre-orders it.
>> And the game reworks that have been going on since its launch may stop with the next expansion (link).

That sick-looking first person sci-fi game at The Game Awards is actually the sequel to Sons of the Forest
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/that-sick-looking-first-person-sci-fi-game-at-the-game-awards-is-actually-the-sequel-to-sons-of-the-forest/
Forest 3 was one of those super crowded Game Awards trailers, sandwiched between the Tomb Raider reveal and a skit about the Invincible fighting game's latest character reveal. But it looks positively sick, and I had to do a double take to realize it's a follow up to one of the biggest games of the past few years.

Surprising no one, here’s part three of the gaming news:

Open world RPG shooter No Law is going straight on my wishlist after its Game Awards reveal—we spoke to the devs to find out more
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/open-world-rpg-shooter-no-law-is-going-straight-on-my-wishlist-after-its-game-awards-reveal-we-spoke-to-the-devs-to-find-out-more/
When Swedish developer Neon Giant got in touch earlier this year to tease its next game, I took the call because of how much we liked its first game, a top-down action RPG whose setting we called "cooler than Night City" in 2021.
Now we've had our first proper look at the studio's ambitious sophomore outing, which was revealed today at The Game Awards: It's called No Law, and it's a singleplayer FPS set in a cyberpunk city ruled by gangs that, from the looks of it, we're going to dismantle violently.

The rumors were true, Creative Assembly really is making Total War: Warhammer 40,000
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/the-rumors-were-true-creative-assembly-really-is-making-total-war-warhammer-40-000/
Since last year we've been speculating about the possibility of Creative Assembly following up its Total War: Warhammer series with a take on the endless science-fantasy grimness factory that is Warhammer 40,000. And what do you know, at The Game Awards we finally got to see it, as announced by David Harbour, who will also be in it.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is coming to Steam and consoles in 2026
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/ace-combat-8-wings-of-theve-is-coming-to-steam-and-consoles-in-2026/
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve was announced at The Game Awards today, and I know at least a couple people who are probably vibrating.
If you're wondering what the heck a "Theve" is, it's the capital of The Federation of Central Usea (obviously). The dogfighting game is set in 2029, and casts you as "a fighter pilot, adrift at sea in a rescue boat until the outdated aircraft carrier, Endurance, pulls you aboard."

While some aren't happy about the new Screamer going all-in on anime vibes, its director says the 'essence' of the original is still present: 'This is still Screamer'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/while-some-arent-happy-about-the-new-screamer-going-all-in-on-anime-vibes-its-director-says-the-essence-of-the-original-is-still-present-this-is-still-screamer/
Something I didn't know until after diving into upcoming lightning-fast arcade racer Screamer was that the series has actually been around since 1995. A game developed as the PC's answer to Namco's Ridge Racer before its sequel delved more into rally racing.
The new Screamer—set to launch next year—has a very different vibe to its '90s predecessors. Peeled away from more realistic pastures for a neon-lit anime bonanza, heavily-modded cars and the unusual decision to put narrative at the centre of its arcade racing.
>> Apparently, the “multi-lingual anime inspiration comes from a love of fighting games” (link).

No pods in sight, but Star Wars: Galactic Racer still looks rad
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/no-pods-in-sight-but-star-wars-galactic-racer-still-looks-rad/
At this year's The Game Awards, we got a first look at a new Star Wars racing, game, Star Wars: Galactic Racer. To my knowledge, this is the first dedicated Star Wars racing game we've seen since the salad days of Prequel Trilogy tie-ins like the much(?) beloved Episode 1 Racer.
The trailer features VO from (presumably) some manner of fucko alien complaining about how namby pamby, politically correct, Empire-era emissions and engine size standards ruined speeder racing. But now with the antiwoke New Republic and its gutting of the relevant regulatory bodies, we're returning to "massive engine, lightning fast, lives on the line" speeder races.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes home an absurd 9 wins at The Game Awards, more than Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/clair-obscur-expedition-33-takes-home-an-absurd-9-wins-at-the-game-awards-more-than-baldurs-gate-3-in-2023/
The Game Awards has concluded, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the big winner, taking home Game of the Year and nine awards in total.
The last big Game Awards sweep was Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023, but it only managed to take home six awards that year. Although BG3 did win the Best Community Support award in 2024, and then again this year, so the two RPGs are almost even. (Larian's next game, Divinity, was also revealed at this year's show.)

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 developers are so thankful for the awards, they dropped a big stonking DLC for free that you can go play right now, with some clutch quality-of-life updates, too
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/clair-obscur-expedition-33-developers-are-so-thankful-for-the-awards-they-dropped-a-big-stonking-dlc-for-free-that-you-can-go-play-right-now-with-some-clutch-quality-of-life-updates-too/
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept The Game Awards much as expected, thanks to—well, being a blooming good game, all told. A solid turn-based RPG with a modest budget, absolutely swinging for the fences and hitting more home runs than it misses.
Developer Sandfall Interactive is so happy, in fact, that it just decided to do the developer equivalent of blowing a kiss: The "Thank you" update—that is literally what it's called—adds a bunch of content to the game for the low low price of 'nothin' but disk space', as seen in the trailer below.

Everyone's arguing about whether Divinity will be turn-based or an ARPG, and I'm not sure why because the answer seems obvious
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/everyones-arguing-about-whether-divinity-will-be-turn-based-or-an-arpg-and-im-not-sure-why-because-the-answer-seems-obvious/
Geoff Keighley flytipped a statue in the desert, Larian made some cryptic tweets, there was a brief period where lots of people were saying The Elder Scrolls 6 and Half-Life 3 for some reason, and now it's all over. We know what Larian's next game is. It's Divinity—just Divinity—and I'd bet several dollars it's a soft reboot for a series which is going to pull in exponentially more players after the mondo success of Baldur's Gate 3.
So if we can't argue about what that statue is or what Larian's next game will be anymore, what's left to us? Fear not: we've already started arguing about whether Divinity will be a turn-based game when it eventually arrives, or if it'll revive the old, hallowed ways of realtime with pause, like its Infinity Engine forefathers of olde.

Your bloodlust does have consequences in Arc Raiders, as a dev confirms, 'we do analyse behaviour and match accordingly'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/your-bloodlust-does-have-consequences-in-arc-raiders-as-a-dev-confirms-we-do-analyse-behaviour-and-match-accordingly/
One of the biggest mysteries in Arc Raiders, even preceding its full release, has been how matchmaking works. During the beta, there was talk of a gear-based matchmaking system that had some players convinced it stuck around. But now the community has decided that Arc Raiders has a different kind of matchmaking.
>> Embark has talked about the exploits that have surprised the team, like walkhacks (link).

And now, let’s see what new deals have GOG and Steam:

+Steam

That’s it for now. Until the next time, I wish you a happy and gaming weekend and also next week.

All week. All week waiting for it, and it comes today.

C'mon! I won't have time to play with it.

In other news, yes, I chickened out and bought a new GPU in fear of what may happen in the coming months. Compared to others cards in the reviews I've found, it runs hotter than them, but nothing to worry about.

I was thinking of using the Hell is Us demo to compare with my card, but the demo no longer works. I don't know, I may get the Pragmata demo and see what it can do or use the built-in benchmark from Guardians of the Gallaxy (it's the newest game I have with one) or maybe Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Yeah, that is all but guaranteed to happen.

Still, I would have liked to wait until the next generation of GPUs, since (at least) Nvidia will use a new node, giving them more room to have a big performance jump without going crazy with power, and AMD would launch a completely new architecture... which could be great or a big mess (but if it's the later, you could still get a 9000 card).
