Surprising no one, here’s part three of the gaming news:
Open world RPG shooter No Law is going straight on my wishlist after its Game Awards reveal—we spoke to the devs to find out more
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/open-world-rpg-shooter-no-law-is-going-straight-on-my-wishlist-after-its-game-awards-reveal-we-spoke-to-the-devs-to-find-out-more/
When Swedish developer Neon Giant got in touch earlier this year to tease its next game, I took the call because of how much we liked its first game, a top-down action RPG whose setting we called "cooler than Night City" in 2021.
Now we've had our first proper look at the studio's ambitious sophomore outing, which was revealed today at The Game Awards: It's called No Law, and it's a singleplayer FPS set in a cyberpunk city ruled by gangs that, from the looks of it, we're going to dismantle violently.
The rumors were true, Creative Assembly really is making Total War: Warhammer 40,000
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/the-rumors-were-true-creative-assembly-really-is-making-total-war-warhammer-40-000/
Since last year we've been speculating about the possibility of Creative Assembly following up its Total War: Warhammer series with a take on the endless science-fantasy grimness factory that is Warhammer 40,000. And what do you know, at The Game Awards we finally got to see it, as announced by David Harbour, who will also be in it.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is coming to Steam and consoles in 2026
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/ace-combat-8-wings-of-theve-is-coming-to-steam-and-consoles-in-2026/
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve was announced at The Game Awards today, and I know at least a couple people who are probably vibrating.
If you're wondering what the heck a "Theve" is, it's the capital of The Federation of Central Usea (obviously). The dogfighting game is set in 2029, and casts you as "a fighter pilot, adrift at sea in a rescue boat until the outdated aircraft carrier, Endurance, pulls you aboard."
While some aren't happy about the new Screamer going all-in on anime vibes, its director says the 'essence' of the original is still present: 'This is still Screamer'

Something I didn't know until after diving into upcoming lightning-fast arcade racer Screamer was that the series has actually been around since 1995. A game developed as the PC's answer to Namco's Ridge Racer before its sequel delved more into rally racing.
The new Screamer—set to launch next year—has a very different vibe to its '90s predecessors. Peeled away from more realistic pastures for a neon-lit anime bonanza, heavily-modded cars and the unusual decision to put narrative at the centre of its arcade racing.
>> Apparently, the “multi-lingual anime inspiration comes from a love of fighting games” (link).
No pods in sight, but Star Wars: Galactic Racer still looks rad
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/no-pods-in-sight-but-star-wars-galactic-racer-still-looks-rad/
At this year's The Game Awards, we got a first look at a new Star Wars racing, game, Star Wars: Galactic Racer. To my knowledge, this is the first dedicated Star Wars racing game we've seen since the salad days of Prequel Trilogy tie-ins like the much(?) beloved Episode 1 Racer.
The trailer features VO from (presumably) some manner of fucko alien complaining about how namby pamby, politically correct, Empire-era emissions and engine size standards ruined speeder racing. But now with the antiwoke New Republic and its gutting of the relevant regulatory bodies, we're returning to "massive engine, lightning fast, lives on the line" speeder races.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes home an absurd 9 wins at The Game Awards, more than Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/clair-obscur-expedition-33-takes-home-an-absurd-9-wins-at-the-game-awards-more-than-baldurs-gate-3-in-2023/
The Game Awards has concluded, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the big winner, taking home Game of the Year and nine awards in total.
The last big Game Awards sweep was Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023, but it only managed to take home six awards that year. Although BG3 did win the Best Community Support award in 2024, and then again this year, so the two RPGs are almost even. (Larian's next game, Divinity, was also revealed at this year's show.)
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 developers are so thankful for the awards, they dropped a big stonking DLC for free that you can go play right now, with some clutch quality-of-life updates, too

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept The Game Awards much as expected, thanks to—well, being a blooming good game, all told. A solid turn-based RPG with a modest budget, absolutely swinging for the fences and hitting more home runs than it misses.
Developer Sandfall Interactive is so happy, in fact, that it just decided to do the developer equivalent of blowing a kiss: The "Thank you" update—that is literally what it's called—adds a bunch of content to the game for the low low price of 'nothin' but disk space', as seen in the trailer below.
Everyone's arguing about whether Divinity will be turn-based or an ARPG, and I'm not sure why because the answer seems obvious
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/everyones-arguing-about-whether-divinity-will-be-turn-based-or-an-arpg-and-im-not-sure-why-because-the-answer-seems-obvious/
Geoff Keighley flytipped a statue in the desert, Larian made some cryptic tweets, there was a brief period where lots of people were saying The Elder Scrolls 6 and Half-Life 3 for some reason, and now it's all over. We know what Larian's next game is. It's Divinity—just Divinity—and I'd bet several dollars it's a soft reboot for a series which is going to pull in exponentially more players after the mondo success of Baldur's Gate 3.
So if we can't argue about what that statue is or what Larian's next game will be anymore, what's left to us? Fear not: we've already started arguing about whether Divinity will be a turn-based game when it eventually arrives, or if it'll revive the old, hallowed ways of realtime with pause, like its Infinity Engine forefathers of olde.
Your bloodlust does have consequences in Arc Raiders, as a dev confirms, 'we do analyse behaviour and match accordingly'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/your-bloodlust-does-have-consequences-in-arc-raiders-as-a-dev-confirms-we-do-analyse-behaviour-and-match-accordingly/
One of the biggest mysteries in Arc Raiders, even preceding its full release, has been how matchmaking works. During the beta, there was talk of a gear-based matchmaking system that had some players convinced it stuck around. But now the community has decided that Arc Raiders has a different kind of matchmaking.
>> Embark has talked about the exploits that have surprised the team, like walkhacks (link).
