I love the opening segment of this article:

"Once upon a time, it seemed as though many Japanese game studios were perfectly content to ignore the PC market. But times are a-changin'. More and more all the time, eastern developers are porting their wares from consoles to computers in an effort to broaden their reach."

A russian site GameGPU has done some benches with the DOOM Beta, and the results are... worrying? But before we get into that, Pete Hines has commented onthe results saying this:

Now, below you'll see the link to the site, the link to wccftech (which is from where I got this story) and the graphs:

http://gamegpu.com/action-/-fps-/-tps/doom-alpha-test-gpu.html

http://wccftech.com/doom-2016-alpha-benchmarks-geforce-amd-radeon/

It goes beyond saying, that they have a lot of work to do.

" we hadn't started PC optimization in alpha. But we had done some for consoles, which is why console alpha ran at 60fps/1080"

That fills me with both worry and dread. I wondered what they were going to compromise on and it sounds like they are sorting consoles first and PC last which sounds like the worst direction possible to go in. I'm also expecting a 60fps lock and if that's true then I'm simply not buying it.

Also don't like how we've had to wait this long for the proper tools for Fallout 4 because Beth wanted it to be ready in time for console mod support. Sounds like they want PC gamers to do all the work for them and focus on the console version with mods. Two studios that are stepping away from their roots does irk me a bit.

Yeah, I agree that watching how former PC developers neglect the platform that gave them their good name in the industry is disappointing and very sad.

It's also potentially dangerous for NVidia if those Doom benches are correct. I mean, Titan getting it's ass kicked by a Radeon 7950? GeForce 980Ti on the same level as a Radeon 280X? Doom clearly shows how much optimisations can matter.

They also show that the optimisations are more effective on GCN 1.0 and 1.1 (aka the versions in Xbox ONE and PS4), as the 380X is well below a 280X and the 290 has an enourmous advantage over a 380X

And of course, no SLI/Crossfire advantage, since consoles can't do that.

It is definitely disappointing and depressing, but at the same time I realise that some devs do take some steps back like this and take some years worth of crap from the PC side of gaming, then eventually they know they need to work hard to regain lost sales/trust and I honestly like when that happens because it means the devs have harder challenges to overcome and eventually learn not to keep straying from the path. Even if they do we get other devs who replace them and steal their spotlight (by working for it like the former once had), in doing so we get to applaud the new guys for doing what the previous devs should have done, they lose out in the end if they stray off the path (we sorta do but not as much as they will in the long run) while we gain from what other devs provide.

If it's not sorted out by release, then I'm most likely never getting the game as I;m rocking a single 980 (which I already think wasn't worth the money at this point).

It's more of an obvious case of what seems like some sort of usual Gameworks situation in reverse - there's no chance in hell that a card like 280X (or 290X while we're at it) can compete with 980Ti.

INFILTRATE A 1970S RELIGIOUS CULT IN THE CHURCH IN THE DARKNESS

http://www.pcgamer.com/infiltrate-a-1970s-religious-cult-in-the-church-in-the-darkness/

The Church in the Darkness is an “action-infiltration game” that see you play a former cop attempting to get inside the isolated religious colony of Freedom Town, to check on the health and well-being of your nephew. It's set in the 1970s and “inspired by real-life events,” with very obvious echoes of Jonestown, but what makes it interesting beyond its historical context is that the church may not be what it appears.

COPPER DREAMS IS A CYBERPUNK CRPG - HERE'S THE FIRST TRAILER

http://www.pcgamer.com/copper-dreams-is-a-cyberpunk-crpg-heres-the-first-trailer/

Whalenought Studios' Serpent in the Staglands slipped under a lot of peoples' radars, and that's a crying shame. It's a novel cRPG set in a fascinating gothic fantasy world, inspired by the ahead-of-its-time Darklands—Darklands!—of all things. Not ones to sit on their laurels, the two-person development team is making another cRPG: a "cyberpunk, cybertactical party-based cRPG" no less.

Sunless Sea's upcoming Zubmariner expansion is looking wonderfully eerie, like pretty much every game set under the sea. Sorry, the 'Zee', which is like the sea but zingier, probably. Developer Failbetter Games offered a brief glimpse of life, and lights, under da Zee back in January, and here's another trailer detailing the Zee floor.

DRAGON FRONT IS THE OCULUS RIFT'S YU-GI-OH

http://www.pcgamer.com/dragon-front-is-the-oculus-rifts-yu-gi-oh/

I'll admit that when Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey teased a collectible card game along the lines of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime, I was stoked on the idea of 100-foot high Blue Eyes White Dragons blasting me from the arena as my underfed deck folded before them. VR obliteration would add a certain spice to defeat. Dragon Front, from High Voltage Software, doesn't look quite like that.

Feeling rather skeptical of Shenmue, mostly because the screenshots a low in res and they are using quite a lot of fx to mask their visual assets along with the PC version still being a complete mystery and I honestly hope they don't cock the PC version up with the amount of backers that threw their hard earned money into supporting them.

Also checked out those Vampyr screenshots, what the fuck is up with devs thinking that Chromatic Aberration is a great thing to  inject into their games?, it's very noticeable and jarring to say the least.
