My PC in my old house would wake up on its own if you turned on or off the lights in my bedroom or adjacent rooms. I guess it was PSU related.

Have experience with that too, although not with my PC... I think there was a grounding issue at my previous place, but I also don't think fixing it resolved the issue completely. I also love it if I put my PC to sleep and get up too quickly, it might wake up from sleep mode without touching anything. I guess I'm making an earthquake and something shakes just a little bit to start the PC? Anyway, I just hate these little nuisances. It's 2025 and we still can't even determine when devices should be powered.

AI will be crammed in more of the graphics pipeline as Nvidia and Microsoft are bringing AI shading to a DirectX preview next month
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/graphics-cards/ai-will-be-crammed-in-more-of-the-graphics-pipeline-as-nvidia-and-microsoft-are-bringing-ai-shading-to-a-directx-preview-next-month/
Yes, I know: more AI. Love it or hate it, that's the way things are going. For us gamers, it started with upscaling, then frame gen, then Multi Frame Gen, and soon, it seems, fully AI-generated frames.
At GDC today Nvidia announced that "neural shading support will come to DirectX preview in April, unlocking the power of AI Tensor Cores in NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs inside of graphics shaders used to program video games…
"Nvidia RTX Neural Shaders SDK enables developers to train their game data and shader code on an RTX AI PC and accelerate their neural representations and model weights with Nvidia Tensor Cores at runtime. This significantly enhances the performance of neural rendering techniques, allowing for faster and more efficient real-time rendering with Tensor Cores."
In other words, AI will be used not just to interpolate frames and generate new ones based on a traditionally rendered frame but also to help render that original frame. It's AI being added to another step of the rendering pipeline.
The end-goal might presumably be to have the game engine tell the GPU information about the primary in-game qualities—objects, movement, and so on—and have AI flesh out the rest of the picture.

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

Batman: Arkham Knight just got an amazing X-Men Wolverine Mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/batman-arkham-knight-just-got-an-amazing-x-men-wolverine-mod/
Now here is something really cool. Modder ‘Kalunn’ has released a new mod for Batman: Arkham Knight that allows you to play as X-Men’s favourite mutant, Wolverine.
This mod replaces Batman’s moveset with a new one for Wolverine. As such, all the hits and grabs are made for Wolverine’s mutant abilities. Then, you can use a skin mod to make Batman look exactly like Wolverine himself.
Now I know, it makes no sense to have Wolverine drive the Batmobile. Or sound like Bruce Wayne. Or interact with Batman’s sidekicks. Still, this is a cool mod that deserves the spotlight. At least in my opinion. Moreover, you can use this mod that adds Deadpool suit variants for Nightwing and Red Hood.

There's hope yet for Classic Offensive after its Steam rejection: The team behind the Counter-Strike 1.6 revival mod is in touch with Valve about its 'concerns'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/theres-hope-yet-for-classic-offensive-after-its-steam-rejection-the-team-behind-the-counter-strike-1-6-revival-mod-is-in-touch-with-valve-about-its-concerns/
PC Gamer's Ted Litchfield expressed hope in January that there might be room for Valve to reconsider its rejection of Classic Offensive, an eight-years-in-the-making mod for Counter Strike: Global Offensive that aims to recreate the experience of Counter-Strike 1.6. And it's a good day for Ted, because an update posted today on X says Valve has made contact with the team over its "concerns" the mod may violate Steam guidelines.
(...)
"We were contacted by Valve this morning," the Classic Offensive dev team said in a new message shared on X. "They have reached out to us with concerns that our mod may no longer be compliant with their guidelines and the Steam Subscriber Agreement. In light of these concerns, we are auditing the current build of the mod to ensure nothing is in violation of those guidelines."
So it's not quite we're back, but it is we're talking, and that's a big step in the right direction. There's still a chance Valve will shoot the whole thing down, but the newly-opened line of communication means there's at least an opportunity to figure things out first: Determine how the mod violates Steam's guidelines, and what can be done about it. Maybe nothing—it's possible the algorithms were right, and the whole thing is irretrievably sunk—but maybe something, too.

'Diversify your fashion endgame' with this Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 mod that gives Henry fly new gambesons, pourpoints, and caftans
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/diversify-your-fashion-endgame-with-this-kingdom-come-deliverance-2-mod-that-gives-henry-fly-new-gambesons-pourpoints-and-caftans/
The last time I saw my version of Henry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 he was covered in dirt and blood and wearing a pair of pants he stole off a corpse. Not exactly a fashion kingpin, let alone an actual king.
And even for those who have been more successful with their Henry: he doesn't ever really exude drip, does he? As modder Laie puts it, maybe it's time to "diversify your fashion endgame" in KCD2.
The Outer Garments mod lets Henry say yes to the dress, except instead of a dress it's a series of top-layer garments made from NPC-exclusive assets that have been paired with recolored accessories. Adorn the lad with some sharp-looking gambesons, pourpoints, and caftans and you'll notice his swag increase by a factor of 10.
"I found it a pity that there are so many cool looking gambesons/pourpoints/caftans in the game, yet you never get to see them much throughout a normal playthrough," Laie says. "I was an avid KCD1 player back in the days and after hundreds of hours poured into that game, I came out thinking that combat jacket, which is basically a type of gambeson that can be worn on top of armor, was the coolest piece of gear among all the fashion options available in KCD1, and its absence in KCD2 is sorely missed."
With the mod installed you'll find Hank's new duds at the armorer northeast of the fountain in Kittenberg. The items will be tier 4 quality. Here's just a handful to choose from.
>> The article has some screenshots showing lots of new dress options.

Lego is going to make its videogames in-house from now on, says it would 'almost rather overinvest'

The world's largest toymaker, Lego, has told the Financial Times that it intends to build its own videogames in-house from now on. A dead MMO that launched with a now-cancelled TV show in 2013 is coming back 4 years after servers were shut down
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/a-dead-mmo-that-launched-with-a-now-cancelled-tv-show-in-2013-is-coming-back-4-years-after-servers-were-shut-down/
Trion Worlds' Defiance was an odd duck. It launched in 2013 alongside a TV show tie-in with the same name, set on a future Earth following an alien invasion—during which the planet was aggressively terraformed. Both the game and the show were a mix of grungy post-apocalyptic western and futuristic sci-fi.
(...)
Only a couple of years later, the show was cancelled, but the MMO persevered. And it stuck around for a while, until 2021, when the servers were shut down. Defiance was never one of the heavy-hitters, and I haven't thought about it for a good long while, but it looks like it's been living in enough folks' heads that it's making a comeback.
Fawkes, "an indie studio and publisher dedicated to reviving treasured titles", has decided that Defiance fits its brief, and has set itself the task of bringing the game back to life. It acquired the rights to both the original 2013 version of the game and the relaunched Defiance 2050 version that appeared in 2018.

Rise of the Ronin is another crappy PC port, performance patch coming 'soon'

Rise of the Ronin arrived on Steam this week, a year after its debut on PlayStation 5, and I'm sorry to say it's not going well, as players are reporting serious performance problems with the game. Koei Tecmo says it's now "investigating" the reports and working on a patch that will hopefully "fix or improve some of these issues."

BioWare veteran says a big delay is better than lots of little ones, because sometimes you just gotta 'burn it down and take the other fork in the road'

BioWare veteran Mark Darrah, who left the company in 2020 before returning to shepherd Dragon Age: The Veilguard to the finish line, has recently been posting videos about his time in the industry: And the latest is about delays.
Darrah's take on delays is simple: If you really need one, it's better to bite the bullet with a hefty delay and recalibrate what you're doing with the project, rather than ploughing ahead and going through lots of little ones.

Ubisoft backflips, says Assassin's Creed Shadows will support Steam Deck at launch, but I doubt I'll actually want to play it there

Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Shadows will run on Steam Deck at launch, which is great albeit unexpected news. It's unexpected, because last month Ubisoft ruled out Steam Deck support, pointing out—quite reasonably—that Valve's handheld is "below our minimum specs for PC".
So what's changed? Presumably the studio has done some testing, tweaked some knobs, and discovered that the game does actually run. "We are happy to say that we are supporting Steam Deck at launch and are currently awaiting the level of classification from Valve," the official Assassin's Creed X account wrote. "More info to come soon."
>> Will it run on the Deck? Yes. Will it run like crap? Probably also yes.

Spectre Divide and its studio are shutting down after just six months: 'The industry is in a tough spot right now'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/spectre-divide-and-its-studio-are-shutting-down-after-just-six-months-the-industry-is-in-a-tough-spot-right-now/
Free-to-play FPS Spectre Divide will close within 30 days, and developers Mountaintop Studios will be disbanded by the end of the week. The news comes only six months after the promising 3v3 shooter launched on Steam, and just a fortnight after its first season launched alongside a new PlayStation version.
In a letter signed by Mountaintop Studios CEO Nate Mitchell and the team, low uptake since the launch of that first season is one of the reasons for the closure. "Unfortunately, the Season 1 launch hasn't achieved the level of success we needed to sustain the game and keep Mountaintop afloat," the letter reads.
It also alludes to the game's player count trajectory: it debuted with around 400,000 players in its first week and a peak of 10,000 concurrents, but admits that these figures have steadily dropped since launch. On Steamcharts.com, the game has a peak of 1,083 players in February, with a 263.1 average.

WoW flexes its MMO player housing system in a new blog post, and it really might just beat FF14's dated furniture placement into the dirt
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/wow-flexes-its-mmo-player-housing-system-in-a-new-blog-post-and-it-really-might-just-beat-ff14s-dated-furniture-placement-into-the-dirt/
World of Warcraft's getting its own player housing, which'll be dropping either on—or just a little before—the release of its next expansion, Midnight. Blizzard's been drip-feeding details over the past few months, mostly by subtly elbowing Final Fantasy 14 for the woes of its own system.
The styling-on-Square Enix is proceeding apace. In a blog titled A Look at Housing Interior Design, Blizzard shared some very exciting details—namely, how placing, rotating, and scaling furniture is all going to work. It's all subject to change, naturally, and there's "a lot of work-in-progress assets and UIs as well as using some terms that are not finalized", but it's all also looking super promising.

Neil Newbon has made somewhat of a superstar debut after the runaway success of Baldur's Gate 3—and having spoken to the man myself in the past, it's all rather deserved. I remember being quite proud of the medium as a whole when I saw him run away with an award, while also sharing a building with known Hollywood superstar Idris Elba (who was on the docket for his role in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty).

It's been a steady climb for recognition, according to Newbon, who spoke to Entertainment Weekly in a group interview centred around the "Pixel Pack"—a vanguard of big-name voice actors joining fights such as the one SAG-AFTRA is currently embroiled in, to ensure their recognition and proper dues.
