AMD reportedly preparing Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs, mobile variants also identified

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-reportedly-preparing-radeon-rx-9070-xt-and-rx-9070-gpus-mobile-variants-also-identified

Looks like they are going to be changing the name going forward to be more like Nvidia. I miss the days of 7970 and such instead of trying to copy another brand. Least it will make it slightly less confusing when it comes to their CPU vs GPU naming otherwise it would be like 9800X3D paired with 9700XT where as now it's like 9800X3D vs 9070XT.

Big salt leak

If the prices are legit, once again feels very "meh" for the performance you are getting. We will see tho.

AMD “Strix Halo” Ryzen AI MAX Spotted in PassMark: Radeon 8050S iGPU outperforms RX 7600

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-strix-halo-ryzen-ai-max-spotted-in-passmark-radeon-8050s-igpu-outperforms-rx-7600

Pretty cool they are able to cram 40 compute units into an APU but the price is gonna be interesting. If they price it similar to a laptop configured with a 5060, then it will be a flop as a 4060 laptop gpu scores 17,641 points. But if they can keep the price reasonable, then it could be a good seller.

But I'd wait for gaming benchmarks as vram bandwidth can be a big limitation of APUs since they are using system ram.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

AMD's new potential GPU naming is garbage.

As for APU vs discreet. They are great... Until you become bandwidth limited, then discreet gets significantly ahead, which would mostly be prevalent at higher resolutions. I.E. 1440P/4k when fillrate limitations come into play.

Pearl Abyss’ Black Desert is free to keep on Steam
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/pearl-abyss-black-desert-is-free-to-keep-on-steam/
Pearl Abyss is currently offering for free its open-world, action MMORPG, Black Desert. For the next two weeks, PC gamers can visit its Steam store page and acquire their free copy.
Black Desert Online is a sandbox, living-world MMORPG. Players can experience fast-paced, action-packed combat, hunt monsters and huge bosses. Players can also fight with friends in a guild to siege nodes and region castles, train their life skills such as fishing, trading, crafting, cooking, and much more.
Black Desert features an expansive open-world map using Pearl Abyss’ proprietary game engine. With its character creation, players can experience an amazing level of customization. Players can adjust their height, torso, face, skin texture, and even various micro-level details.
Moreover, the game comes with a variety of choices. Some of them include farming, trading, fishing, sailing, cooking, horse training, and alchemy.
>> You can get it from here.

Ok, I’ll be honest. I messed it up a bit with the Epic Store. Last Thursday, when I checked the new free game, I didn’t notice that they would be giving away free games in a daily basis. So yeah, my apologies for that. I don’t know how much that will last, but today’s free game is Dark and Darker - Legendary Status: https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/dark-and-darker-qa-dark-and-darker-legendary-status-a83d59.

Meanwhile, Fanatical has two new deals:

NVIDIA releases GeForce display driver Hotfix 566.45
https://videocardz.com/pixel/nvidia-releases-geforce-display-driver-hotfix-566-45
NVIDIA has released the GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 566.45, built on the latest Game Ready Driver 566.36. This update aims to address specific issues, including intermittent micro-stuttering in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and improved stability for Ubisoft games running on the Snowdrop engine.

However, this hotfix does not address issues with the NVIDIA app that some users have reported. These problems are likely related to the overlay feature, which NVIDIA recommends turning off as a temporary workaround.

New Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Graphics Mod Improves Shadows, Draw Distance & Volumetrics
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/new-sekiro-shadows-die-twice-graphics-mod-improves-shadows-draw-distance-volumetrics/
Modder ‘GPUnity’ has released a new mod for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice that aims to improve its graphics. To be more specific, this mod improves the game’s shadows, draw distance, volumetrics and motion blur.
Going into more detail, on the Max settings, the mod adjusts the draw distance range between 2X and 3X. It also improves the quality of shadows by four times, and it increases the quality of volumetrics by two times. Plus, it increases the sample count for motion blur by 3X.
The end result is a more stable image. The game will no longer have as many pop-ins as it had in its vanilla version. Moreover, you will no longer get annoying low-res shadows right in front of view.
>> The article has a two minutes video.

Resident Evil Village gets high resolution textures for characters & enemies
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/resident-evil-village-gets-high-resolution-textures-for-characters-enemies/
Modder ‘S1nonim’ has released two new HD Texture Packs for Resident Evil Village. These packs will update the textures of some enemies and characters with higher quality ones. So, if you’re planning to replay this RE game, you should definitely get them.
What’s interesting here is that these aren’t AI-upscaled packs. Instead, S1nonim used the textures that Capcom has used in the Model Viewer.
As he pointed out, Capcom has included high-quality 4K/2K/1K textures for its enemies and characters in the Model Viewer. However, for unknown reasons, the team did not include these textures in the game. Thankfully, with these packs, PC gamers can now enjoy these higher-quality official textures.
You can go ahead and download the packs from here and here. Below you can also find some comparison screenshots.
As you will see, the textures from the Model Viewer are better in every way. So, again, I don’t know why Capcom has not included them during gameplay. It makes no sense.
Do note that you will also need the Fluffy Mod Manager, otherwise these packs will not work. To install them, you can drop the mods folder into Fluffy Mod Manager directory modmanagerGamesRE8Mods and turn them on via Fluffy Mod. And that’s it.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Demo in Unreal Engine 5 Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-demo-in-unreal-engine-5-released/
Earlier this month, we shared a demo of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in Unreal Engine 5. And today, we are happy to share a similar demo that ports the entire map of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in Unreal Engine 5.
Created by Greg Coulthard, this project simply ports the entire map of Skyrim in UE5. All the assets used here are from the original game. As Coulthard noted, his goal wasn’t to upgrade the game’s graphics. Instead, he wanted simply wanted to see whether or not it was possible to port Skyrim’s map in UE5, and how it would look in it.
To achieve this, Greg used a C++ plugin he developed to read Skyrim’s ESM data file. This plugin allowed him to automatize landscape generation and object placement.
Now what’s cool here is that this plugin can be used for other Creation Engine games. As such, it should be possible to have similar UE5 demos for Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4 and even Starfield.
>> There’s a less than 2 minutes trailer of this demo.

Starship, PC native port of Star Fox 64, is available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/starship-pc-native-port-of-star-fox-64-is-available-for-download/
Last month, we informed you about an unofficial PC native port of the classic Nintendo 64 game, Star Fox 64. And today we are happy to report that this PC port, called Starship, is now available for download.
The team behind this unofficial PC port of Star Fox 64 is the same one that gave us Ship of Harkinian. So, kudos to them for bringing another classic N64 game to the PC.
As with the Super Mario 64 PC port, Starship does not include any copyrighted assets. To make it work, you’ll need an official ROM file. By doing this, the team avoids any possible C&D letter. So no, Nintendo will not be able to take it down.
Currently, there are three rendering APIs supported in Starship. These are DirectX11 (Windows), OpenGL (all platforms), and Metal (macOS). You can change which API to use in the Settings menu of the menubar, which requires a restart.

Monday news, the second part:

Diablo 4 is free until January and lets you play as its most busted class, so go on a rampage before Blizzard nerfs it
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/diablo-4-is-free-until-january-and-lets-you-play-as-its-most-busted-class-so-go-on-a-rampage-before-blizzard-nerfs-it/
If your prime years for receiving fun Christmas presents are now behind you, and you've been demoted to socks, ties, and tasty chutneys in your adulthood, then you may want to check out Diablo 4's world of Sanctuary over the festive period. It's a world where inside every treasure chest, side-quest, and underpowered boss that you can pop open like a pinata, there is a pile of shiny gold, weapons, and armour ready to spill at your feet; in Sanctuary, it's Christmas every day.
If this cornucopia of shiny things and the dopamine hit of a massive loot drop sound appealing to you, then good news, because from now until January 3, you can play Diablo 4 for free on PC via Battle.net (and on PlayStation and Xbox, but we don't talk about those here).
During the trial period you'll also get to play as the Spiritborn. The popular new class, which is dominating the leaderboards, was originally only available to play for owners of the Vessel of Hatred expansion, but now you'll get to bop around the base game as a Spiritborn until January. Enjoy the Spiritborn while you can, says Blizzard, because it may be getting nerfed when Season 7 lands on January 21.

Sweet aunt Petunia! GSC just announced updates for the 3 classic Stalker games 15 years after release
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/sweet-aunt-petunia-gsc-just-announced-updates-for-the-3-classic-stalker-games-15-years-after-release/
In what I have convinced myself is the studio's Christmas gift to me specifically, GSC Game World has announced that it's updating Stalker. No not Stalker 2, the old Stalkers: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat.
In an encyclical on X, "The Everything App," GSC announced that the classic Stalker games would all be getting a whizzy "next-gen patch" on consoles in 2025. Clean-living PC gamers like you and I don't care about that, of course, but we do care about what it said next: "We know you've asked us to update the PC versions of the original Stalker games, and we also plan to do that."

Larian is looking for Baldur's Gate 3 fans who 'like trying to break things' to help it do some crossplay testing
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/larian-is-looking-for-baldurs-gate-3-fans-who-like-trying-to-break-things-to-help-it-do-some-crossplay-testing/
If you like Baldur's Gate 3, and you like breaking things, Larian has a job for you. The big patch 8 announced in November that's bringing crossplay to the game (along with 12 new subclasses and photo mode) will soon be ready for testing, and developers are looking for help to see how it all holds up when thousands of people come crashing into the party.

CD Projekt had to nerf Ciri for The Witcher 4 after she fully unlocked her spacetime teleportation powers in the previous game: 'Something totally happened in-between'

First reported by GamesRadar, CD Projekt Red developers have revealed that Ciri's powers of teleportation are going to be seriously toned down or even absent in The Witcher 4—no more zipping around like an anime protagonist for Zireael. She'll make up for it, though, with full Trial of the Grasses witcher potion-chugging and some more impressive offensive magical abilities than Geralt's dinky signs.

Mariah Carey was frozen in an ice block in Fortnite and then she thawed out and sang 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' and everyone went back to shooting each other
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/mariah-carey-fortnite-winterfest-christmas-event-start/
Fortnite got in on the joke that famous five-octave vocalist Mariah Carey hibernates all year before being thawed out before Christmas to sing her holiday hits by having the singer do just that in the game. A giant block of ice was recently added to Fortnite's map, and earlier today it melted to reveal a dancing Carey in a Santa outfit as "All I Want For Christmas Is You" played.
(...)
The great thawing signifies more than the impending Christmas holiday—it much more importantly means that Fortnite's holiday event, Winterfest 2024, has begun.

Voin has the power of a god, anime and black metal album cover art on its side

I am a knight made of lightning and black steel. Perched on the parapet of a vast gothic tower, I spy a dozen shambling undead in the valley below. I leap into the air above them, then plummet into the mob, exploding like a thunderclap, arcing electricity and shattered zombie bits in my wake. Sometimes it's cool when a videogame is just a big dumb power fantasy, and Voin—a first-person action RPG just launched into early access—is exactly that, and feels like a solid first step on a year-long roadmap to a full release.

Stardew Valley patch 1.6.15 has rolled out on PC, Android, and iOS, fixing a variety of little bugs but most importantly the one I know that both you and I were annoyed by: "Fixed bad-word filtering added to some extra text boxes in 1.6," says the note, "Those are now only filtered on platforms that require it, as originally intended." Which means that you can have all the swears you want in your own personal Stardew Valley on your own personal computer, as God intended.

BioWare art lead Matt Rhodes just keeps sharing explosive Dragon Age development details and alternate storylines on Twitter, all with accompanying concept art to boot. Mini Mini Golf Golf isn't a particularly good golf game. The controls feel a tiny bit off, the physics are occasionally unpredictable and there's not many holes to putt your way through. That might put off some people, which is a shame, as it's just the tip of a thoroughly weird iceberg. In reality, this is an experimental narrative adventure about climate collapse, human memory, time travel and awkward FMV videogame theory podcasts. Just… mostly told through the medium of miniature golf.

Bethesda's tenure as the ruler of Fallout's Wasteland has brought with it massive changes: the first-person perspective, FPS combat, base building, its transformation into a survival MMO. Since Fallout 3, the series has gone off in a bunch of different directions, most of them distinct from the original vision of Fallout's creators.

Despite the significant changes that have occurred since Cain bid farewell to the series, though, he doesn't think its transformation is a bad thing. While it was far from his first game as director, 1998's Metal Gear Solid is the title that established Hideo Kojima as one of the gaming greats. Pioneering in its cinematic approach, playfulness and outstanding imaginative parameters, the game marked a huge leap forward for 3D action generally, and single-handedly made stealth a genre that everyone from Sony to Ubisoft would try their hand at: None of the imitators, of course, got close to the Tactical Espionage Action that inspired them.
A contemporary interview about Metal Gear Solid from 1998 in the Japanese PlayStation magazine has now resurfaced, translated by Schmuplations and spotted by GR+, in which Kojima and series artist Yoji Shinkawa discuss the game's development, and the latter's influence over not just the game's aesthetics but the core design. Kojima recalls seeing Shinkawa's portfolio when assessing job candidates, and that "I’ve never seen anyone who I immediately wanted to give an S until Shinkawa" (Konami would internally grade submissions from C to A).

AMD's GPU naming needs a rework. I don't know how many times I've seen discussions about the 7600 only knowing if they were talking about the CPU or the GPU by the rest of the context, but copying Nvidia's naming scheme is all kinds of lame.

Also, this is kind of the worst time to do so, with the 9000 series. Will AMD go with 10000 series of CPUs or GPUs or will they change the whole naming again like usual? But well, AMD and Intel aren't exactly the best with their naming.

AMD Ryzen R9 9000X3D CPUs reportedly maintain higher frequency without surprise

https://videocardz.com/pixel/amd-ryzen-r9-9000x3d-cpus-reportedly-maintain-higher-frequency-without-surprise

"In short, when comparing Nvidia’s GPUs to AMD’s MI300X, we found that the potential on paper advantage of the MI300X was not realized due to a lack within AMD public release software stack and the lack of testing from AMD.

AMD’s software experience is riddled with bugs rendering out of the box training with AMD is impossible. We were hopeful that AMD could emerge as a strong competitor to NVIDIA in training workloads, but, as of today, this is unfortunately not the case. The CUDA moat has yet to be crossed by AMD due to AMD’s weaker-than-expected software Quality Assurance (QA) culture and its challenging out of the box experience. As fast as AMD tries to fill in the CUDA moat, NVIDIA engineers are working overtime to deepen said moat with new features, libraries, and performance updates."

Really shows what Nvidia's software stack can really do once all the marketing goes away. Not only does the H100 (released in March 2023) beat MI300X in a majority of benchmarks but also statements like this isn't doing AMD any favors. Radeon team really got coal for Christmas lol.
