Black Mesa: Blue Shift Remake Chapter 5 to be released on November 17th
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/black-mesa-blue-shift-remake-chapter-5-to-be-released-on-november-17th/
HECU Collective has announced that the fifth chapter for their remake of Half-Life Blue Shift in Black Mesa will be released on November 17th. To celebrate this announcement, the team has shared a new teaser trailer which you can find below.
In Black Mesa: Blue Shift, players will relive the Black Mesa Incident as Gordon Freeman’s best friend, Barney Calhoun. This fan remake currently has the first four chapters of Blue Shift. These chapters are Living Quarters Outbound, Insecurity, Duty Calls and Captive Freight.
For those unaware, Blue Shift was an expansion of Half-Life that came out in 2001. Developed by Gearbox, this expansion allowed you to experience the events of Half-Life from the perspective of Barney Calhoun.
If you haven’t played Blue Shift, I highly recommend trying it. Well, that is when Chapter 5 becomes available. After all, you won’t have to wait for long.

Solitary Echoes is a new Aliens-based TC Mod for Half-Life
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/solitary-echoes-is-a-new-aliens-based-tc-mod-for-half-life/
Half-Life and Aliens fans, here is something special for you today. Team Lambda has released the first episode of Solitary Echoes. Solitary Echoes is an Aliens-based total conversion mod for Half Life. This mod has been in development for a while. And, from what I can see, it looks pretty cool. So, if you are a fan of the Aliens franchise, I highly recommend trying it.
In Solitary Echoes, you assume the role of a technical support engineer on a geoforming outpost on LV-513. Your task is to change a lightbulb when the outpost gets overrun by a hostile alien lifeform.
In this TC Mod, weapons, ammo and healthkids are very scarce and often well hidden. Players will have to constantly organize their few resources, and always evaluate if the fight is worth spending the precious ammo, or if there’s a way to avoid it.
From what I could see, the 3D models for the aliens are from the Aliens vs Predator 2 game. If they are not, they look too similar. The outdoor environment also reminded me of the one from AVP2.
Since we won’t get a new Aliens game anytime soon, I suggest downloading the mod from this link. This first release has the Training Course and the first Episode.
Sadly, there is no ETA on when the rest of the episodes will come out. Still, I hope the team will keep working on it as everyone wants to play a new Aliens game.

Eric Barone issues emergency Stardew Valley performance PSA: 'Remove all hats from pets'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/eric-barone-issues-emergency-stardew-valley-performance-psa-remove-all-hats-from-pets/
Stardew Valley's major 1.6 update is now live on all platforms and, as so often happens with these things, there are a few problems cropping up. None of them seem too major, which is good news, but there does appear to be some performance issues cropping up for some players. Luckily, there is a workaround, and it may be the purest, most Stardew-like fix of all time.
"PSA: if you are experiencing performance issues in Stardew Valley 1.6, remove all hats from pets," Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone posted on X. "We will address the problem as soon as possible."

Helldivers' creative boss doesn't want to 'dilute' it with crossovers, but his list of dream choices has some real deep cuts
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-creative-boss-doesnt-want-to-dilute-it-with-crossovers-but-his-list-of-dream-choices-has-some-real-deep-cuts/
The creative director of Helldivers 2 doesn't want to do too many crossovers with their wildly successful co-op shooter—it already has enough character and flair for itself and has barely started to retread the cool stuff from the first game. That said, CCO Johan Pilestedt does have a big ol' nerd laundry list of his favorite things he'd be open to doing a crossover with if the vibe was right.
>> One of them is Starship Troopers, obviously.

If you love big trucks, establishing trade routes, and the phrase 'post-apocalyptic survival business simulator' then I've got just the strategy RPG for you
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/if-you-love-big-trucks-establishing-trade-routes-and-the-phrase-post-apocalyptic-survival-business-simulator-then-ive-got-just-the-strategy-rpg-for-you/
I have fond memories from childhood of endlessly playing a strategy trading game for the Apple 2 called Taipan! (I'm not shouting at you, the game name included an exclamation point.) Based on the novel by James Clavell of Shōgun fame, I'd spend hours in Taipan! sailing back and forth between ports, buying items like silk and guns and opium as cheaply as possible and then selling them at their most expensive. You can actually play Taipan! in your browser if you want to check it out yourself.
Strategy RPG Dustland Delivery reminds me of Taipan! only instead of being set in China in the 1800s it takes place in a Mad Max-style wasteland of a post-apocalyptic future. You've got a huge truck to upgrade and maintain, trade routes to set up between distant outposts, random encounters to deal with on the road, and best of all, a crew of misfits to manage—which may include irradiated mutants, the undead, and even a clown.

Take-Two has sold Private Division to an unnamed buyer: 'We are top-ten hit makers around here,' and Private Division wasn't making them
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/take-two-has-sold-private-division-to-an-unnamed-buyer-we-are-top-ten-hit-makers-around-here-and-private-division-wasnt-making-them/
Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that it has sold Private Division, the "high-end indie" publishing label it launched in 2017, to an undisclosed buyer, along with "substantially all of Private Division’s live and unreleased." The one exception is No Rest for the Wicked, the action RPG that launched into early access earlier this year, which Take-Two will continue to support.

GTA 6's corporate overlord reveals that he's looking forward to 'a more sensible FTC' under the Trump administration because sometimes 'deregulation can be a positive'

During a recent earnings call, Take-Two's CEO and chairman, Strauss Zelnick, discussed the company's current state of affairs, including selling off Private Division, its high-end indie publishing label, and how he thinks the upcoming Trump presidency will affect business.
(...)
"I think that the President-elect has made it very plain that he believes in reducing regulation. I do believe that the FTC was misguided during President Biden’s term, and I do think that the FTC tried to impede some transactions that were beneficial for both the companies in question and the economy at large, and the FTC lost all those cases since. So I do think that, depending on what the specific topic is, deregulation can be a positive, and I am certainly looking forward to a more sensible FTC.”
>> Just wow. That was fast. I doubt it will be positive, at least for the consumers.

The Sims competitor Inzoi is being delayed until next year because 'it is said that among primates, raising a human child to adulthood takes the longest time'

Inzoi, another in a line of seemingly-cursed Sims competitors that are experiencing delays, is—you guessed it—delayed until March 28, 2025. I'm halfway convinced EA has put a hex over anyone who makes The Sims-style games. Including its own developers, if its wobbly house of DLC cards is anything to go by.

The diea of AMD and Intel mergin is inconceivable, at least to me. And also very frightening. They're the only relevant x86 chip makers and their merge would completely disrupt the market with one giant monopoly.

I don't think it will happen (even if it's only because of all the problems to decide who takes which position and which company is the one on top, the one that's doing well or the bigger one).

Imagine they being able to charge for server CPUs as much as Nvidia charges for their data center GPUs (in terms of profit margin) :)

I can also imagine charging 700 $/€ for the 8-core or 1000 $/€ for the 16-core X3D gaming CPUs, since they're the best and have no competition.

https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/tomorrow-is-the-last-day-of-voting-for-the-42nd-golden-joystick-awards-ultimate-game-of-the-year-and-best-game-adaptation/
The 42nd Golden Joystick Awards are almost upon us, with winners being announced during the live broadcast on Thursday, November 21, at 4pm GMT / 11am EST. But there's still time for you to get your votes in for some of the biggest categories.
>> That tomorrow is today.

Sega is delisting a huge number of its greatest classic games on Steam, probably so it can sell you a new collection
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sega-is-delisting-a-huge-number-of-its-greatest-classic-games-on-steam-probably-so-it-can-sell-you-a-new-collection/
Sega is getting ready to massacre its collection of classic games on Steam. A whopping 60 games are about to get delisted, including Ecco, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Golden Axe. The huge list includes a slew of generation-defining games from the Mega Drive/Genesis and Dreamcast. This includes the big Classics collections as well as standalones, too.
All of them will be delisted on December 6 at 11:59 PST/December 7 at 7:59am GMT. If you have already picked up the collections, bundles or individual games, however, you've nothing to worry about, at least. They'll just be removed from sale. You can find the full list in Sega's FAQ.
>> I hope Sega puts them on sale one last time, so I can pick a few more before they’re gone (at least for now).

There is simply too much going on in Black Ops 6 Season 1
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/call-of-duty/there-is-simply-too-much-going-on-in-black-ops-6-season-1/
In terms of volume of stuff, I'm not sure any games beat Call of Duty's seasonal updates. Black Ops 6 Season 1 is kicking off next week, November 14, and the blog post breaking it all down is so long that I had to read it over two sittings. The density of information makes more sense when you consider that Activison is lumping together both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, the latter of which is getting fully integrated with BLOPS 6's guns, perks, classes, Omnimovement control changes, and gaining a new small-sized map called Area 99.
>> It will also come with the first weird skins.

To appease a Steam user's demands for straight representation, Webfishing added a 'Straight' title that costs 9,999 fish bucks
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sports/to-appease-a-steam-users-demands-for-straight-representation-webfishing-added-a-straight-title-that-costs-9-999-fish-bucks/
Webfishing, the delightful $5 chat room fishing game released last month, includes a selection of cosmetic titles you can collect to display to other players below your username. Many are goofs, like Little Lad or Shithead. Others, like the Gay, Ace, Bi, and Trans titles, offer players a chance to express their sexuality or gender identity.
One keen intellectual on the Steam discussion forums, however, noticed the lack of a title for straight people and felt compelled to raise the issue (via Rock Paper Shotgun). At time of writing, it's unclear whether they'd noticed the vast majority of other human media that assumes a default straight perspective. Easy to miss, but as a straight guy, I promise you: We're doing fine on that front.
And yet, not everyone can read the room well enough that they don't need to wonder why an indie game featuring a bunch of anthropomorphic cats and dogs might not be centering the straight experience. It's a skill you develop, I guess. Despite the goofus behavior, however, Webfishing developer lamedeveloper was—as a sign of benevolence—receptive to the suggestion.
As part of its 1.09 Housecleaning Update, Webfishing now offers the "Straight" title. It costs 9,999 in-game dollars. For comparison, other purchasable titles cost $75. I'll also note that it's the only orientation-oriented title with quotation marks. Pretty good bit.
>> I’ve decided to post the article because I’m not sure if I’m the one out of touch, as I don’t see a problem with the petition on Steam (which I admit I haven’t been able to check). If your game allows to tag or express the sexuality of your character, why not include one for straight? It’s a valid option, costs nothing to implement and saves you from troubles.

Co-op survival game Icarus is celebrating 153 consecutive weekly updates by giving you a flamethrower and a free weekend
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/co-op-survival-game-icarus-is-celebrating-153-consecutive-weekly-updates-by-giving-you-a-flamethrower-and-a-free-weekend/
Over the three years since the release of co-op survival game Icarus, developer RocketWerkz has continually updated it. And by continually, I mean on a weekly basis: the newest update is the 153rd since December of 2021. That's a lotta patches!
As a celebration of everything that's been added to Icarus since launch, which includes new operations and missions, new weapons and items, new creatures and an entire fishing system, plus DLC that doubled the size of the map, Icarus is giving players yet another new toy: a flamethrower.
And to encourage more people to light up (the flamethrower, I mean) Rocketwerkz is also giving everyone a free weekend. Dive in and play the base game all weekend long on Steam, free of charge. If you want to stick around after, there's more good news: Icarus is 50% off for the next week, and there are discounts on the various editions and expansions, too.

Loads of new heroes have been introduced to Deadlock's Hero Labs over the last few weeks, including Slork, Holliday, and Viper, but the most recent addition could be the game's most controversial—because his entire kit revolves around creepy crawlies that people aren't typically that fond of.

'I had my fun' says hacker who used Call of Duty anti-cheat exploit to ban 'thousands upon thousands' of innocent players
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/hacker-banned-thousands-of-call-of-duty-players-remotely/
Last month, Activision posted that they'd "identified and disabled a workaround" within their automated anti-cheat tool, Ricochet. The language of the post is purposefully vague about what actually happened, but the studio asserts that only a "small number" of legitimate Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare III players were affected, and that those accounts have since been reinstated.
However, it wasn't long before hackers shared their side of the story—to say nothing of all the angry responses under Activision's post from players still locked out of their accounts. A hacker known as Zeebler was the first to publicly share details of the exploit, explaining how it allowed them to remotely permaban players by typing as few as two words into the lobby chat. TechCrunch has since caught up with the hacker who originally found the exploit.

Despite Intel having flopped and floundered for years... They still control 75% of the desktop market.
...And despite controlling 75% of the market, their financials look terrible.

They need to streamline the business and make it more efficient, they *should* be fine to operate at 50% marketshare, not struggle at 75%.

It also showcases how much of a hill that AMD has to climb... 25% of the market after years of beating the competition with a faster, cheaper and better quality product... And this is also why they seem to struggle to have relevancy in the GPU space. - Mindshare.

Mindshare is a powerful thing, even when you have the superior product, it's often hard to beat the popularity contest that is associated with a brand.

I'll probably settle for a Ryzen 9 9950X3D when it releases rather than the lower core count 9800X3D, it will be a decent upgrade over the old 5950X I am currently using.
