So I heard Sony released Until Dawn on PC. Went to go check out the Steam reviews and get met with this:

It's like they don't want money. hardest I've wheezed this week.

(For the record I'm UK based, and I know Steam and Sony support that region, as well as my island in between the UK/Ireland).

Edit: did some backtracking. Since I already own Helldivers 2, I can no longer see a game I bought and own on the Steam store page, let alone any other game that demands the use of PSN from Sony, meaning Sony won't support IoM, despite my island being a part of the UK/Ireland region, which makes no sense.

Sony, why are you this fucking stupid?. Knock off the PSN for PSN you stupid gits.

Pretty great deal with the AMD cards; especially if you add in the get 2 great games for free with them.

How long since the launch of the 4080 SUPER? Barely on the market and already getting taken from the market...

Hm, I'm not sure what happened there with Ryujinx - I actually doubt Nintendo could do anything about it legally (aren't those guys from Brazil?), especially since Ryujinx avoided doing anything that is not legal.
So, if Nintendo were clever, they offered them money/job, since it's rather embarrassing having your newest game running better on emulator than on your actual hardware.

They must have done something like this, which is how they approached the 3DS hackers back in the day.

Now, you're right Nintendo couldn't have done anything. Even if they tried, lawyers here are cheap, massive teams don't count for much given the way legal procedures work, and you can't get buried for life in a civil lawsuit.

Still, I can see how a layman could be scared into complying, especially if a little bit of carrot was supplied along with the stick.

I'm just speculating here, but given how all of a sudden they've been cracking down on Switch emulation, I'm tempted to believe that Switch 2 will be fairly similar in its workings to SW1, so they are truing to prevent emulators popping up for SW2 in its first year or so - and current emulator devs are obvious first target.

Thanks for that interesting flowchart, great piece. If Nintendo were smart, they offered them job.

Possibly indicates the S2 will be BC?

I'll stick with my 4090 for a long while but I will keep on eye on AMD, much more reasonable in price.

I also saw this happening, but didn't think it would be this soon.

So not only is the remaster enforcing PSN, but they are now also removing the original from Steam, and now anyone who will want to buy the game on PC, but doesn't have a region that supports PSN, they won't even be able to buy the remaster (which would also be me, so I couldn't even buy the upgrade, since the store page will be going away).

This is just dick move after dick move with Sony, and all for enforcing PSN. They'd rather try netting whatever sales they can get on PC via an expensive remaster, than two types of sales from the original and the remaster (which has the original casting a net over all regions).

Cuckony really wants to test PC gamers huh. You would think after the Concord flop, they would be doing everything they can to please people to get more sales but alas... It's incredibly stupid to force PSN on single player games.

I never doubted that. What I don't know if the BC will be hardware or software based, but Nintendo has always gone with the hardware one.

At least they didn't make the mistake of launching their own PC store. That would have been fun to watch.

Please excuse my bad English.

The sad thing is, I know I'm part of the UK, I'm ltierally right in fucking between the UK and Ireland, and I own Helldivers 2 and can still play that online without issue.

meanwhile, if I try to find the store page outside of the Steam client, it doesn't show up?. Smae is now happening with any Sony game that requires PSN. I can find GoW 1 on Steam, but I can't find Ragnarok on Steam, because of the PSN requirement.

Sony has basically cucked me out of seeing any new games going forward, because of their shitty focus on PSN.

I even had a PSN account way back in the day, but hey, guess what?, I lost that shit back in the 2013 hack and had to change bank accounts and everything. I'm not doing that shit again, so Sony can fuck right off with that.

I'm past that point with Helldivers 2, but I can already play it anyway.

Any title that demands PSN just refuses to show up on Steam on my end. Basically Sony are saying I don't matter and they flat out do not want my money going forward, which if fine with me I guess?, I wasn't going to buy any of their games that demand I make yet another PSN account, because fuck that.

See MS gets a slight pass from me because Xbox and it's network are built into the backend of their OS (which I use), but Sony's is literally a non requirement, they just tell us we have to because it benefits them, not us (we have Steam cheevos, Steam overlay, there is virtually no need for a PC user to abandon the better versions of those features of lesser and closed off ones that are primarily tied to a console ecosystem).

I can guarantee you they'll be paving the way for their own PS store. They have already been laying down foundations like the PSN requirement, PS trophy and overlay systems for their games on Steam. This is the starting shift point. Once that's all laid down, they'll just be a dick and pull a Ubisoft, by siphoning from Steam, demand you use their account and overlay systems, while also selling their own games on the PC PS store, making the typical user go "why buy on Steam, when I could just buy from the PS store and still put up with their account system/overlay?"

Basically Sony are testing two audiences: those that put up with Steam's own systems mixed in with Sony's, and those who are fine with Sony's systems, but don't want Steam's added on top of that (the type of people that typically buy from Ubisoft's client, instead of Steam, and yes those types of ppl exist).

So you can play Helldivers 2, that requires a PSN account, but can't buy or play other titles that ask for it? That's... curious. Now I wonder if you see Ghost of Tsushima, because that game requires a PSN account, but only for the multiplayer side of it (at least for now). It's like a schrödinger cat situation.

I don't really think Sony will launch their own PC store. They're not entirrely dumb and have seen how not only Ubisoft or EA have come back to Steam to get better sales, but also Blizzard has come to Steam after going solo since almost always. So no, I don't think they're dumb enough to do that and lowe their sales numbers even more.

With that said, I wouldn't rule out the chance of them doing a UPlay/UbiConnect or whatever thing, launching their own platform on PC while also keeping their games on Steam, forcing users to have to launch both platforms to play their games. But I don't see them going solo.
