Gothic 1 Remake just got a new 4-minute in-engine trailer
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/gothic-1-remake-just-got-a-new-4-minute-in-engine-trailer/
At its 2024 Showcase event, THQ Nordic released a new 4-minute in-engine trailer for Gothic 1 Remake. This trailer will give you a glimpse at the visual style and graphics of this upcoming remake which will be using Unreal Engine 5.

Well, it's no secret what I thought of that first demo for Gothic Remake (utter crap), but this trailer really got me optimistic - it seems they really listened to fan backlash and made it look and feel much more like the original, while making it bit more accessible to new players.

A modder has created a cyberpunk city in No Man’s Sky, featuring streets, bars, shops, apartments, a nightclub and a mini metro

Reddit’s ‘monstavvvv’ has created an incredible cyberpunk city in No Man’s Sky that all players can visit and explore. This city features streets, bars, shops, apartments, a nightclub and a mini metro. And, as you will see below, it looks amazing.
This project took monstavvvv a couple of months to create in Creative Mode. The modder used a glitch building method to scale up any base part to whatever size he wanted. The city is made of 3000 parts and is located in Euclid. And the results are quite impressive.
To visit Rainbow City, you’ll have to set your game to creative, locate a Portal, and use the glyhs at the bottom left corner of the video. For those who don’t know how to find a Portal, I’ve included a video below that shows you how.
>> The article has a video of the mod besides the video about Portals.

Sonic Adventure RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod is 90% complete
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/sonic-adventure-rtx-remix-path-tracing-mod-is-90-complete/
Modder ‘reV’ has released version 0.9.3 for his RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for Sonic Adventure. According to the modder, this mod is 90% complete. Moreover, you can find a new trailer for it below. So, if you are a Sonic fan, I highly recommend trying it.
As with most RTX Remix Mods, this mod brings real-time path tracing to Sonic Adventure. In version 0.9.3, the modder overhauled most transparent and reflective surfaces, including most water. All levels now have Path Tracing.
For the final version, reV will upscale all of the game’s textures (including real textures from the HD Project). He also plans to add some optional PBR materials, and make major lighting improvements. And, that will be all.
Do note that this RTX Remix Mod requires the Dreamcast Conversion Mod. For those unaware, Dreamcast Conversion is a complete overhaul of Sonic Adventure DX that makes it look like the original Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure. You can download it from this link.
You can download the latest version of Sonic Adventure RTX from this link.

Over 50 minutes of gameplay from Need for Speed: Most Wanted Fan Remake in Unreal Engine 5
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/over-50-minutes-of-gameplay-from-need-for-speed-most-wanted-fan-remake-in-unreal-engine-5/
In March 2024, we shared a video showcasing a fan remake of Need for Speed: Most Wanted in Unreal Engine 5. And today, we are happy to share with you a new video, showcasing over 50 minutes of gameplay footage from it.
In this latest version of this fan remake, NostalgiaNexus added Police AI. This is a key part of the gameplay in NFS: MW. As such, the remake is finally starting to feel like more than just a tech demo for Unreal Engine 5. The dev also improved more textures and added speed line effects similar to those in the Xbox 360 version. Not only that but he improved the sounds of the BMW M3 GT.
This 50-minute gameplay video shows some police chases and free-roaming around the city. NostalgiaNexus also shared a comparison video between the latest version of his remake and the original 2005 game. This will help you see how much better the fan remake looks and plays. And in all honesty, it does look better. So, needless to say, I highly recommend watching it, especially if you are a die-hard NFS fan.
What’s really great about this fan remake is how similar it is to the original. NostalgiaNexus has done a fantastic job matching the art style and design of the original game. This is what a modern official remake of NFS: MW should look like.
Sadly, there is no way to download this fan remake as of yet. My guess is that the dev will release it once it’s ready. So, here is hoping that he won’t receive any C&D letter from EA.

The Call of Duty ban wave continues as Activision dishes out over 65,000 account bans across Warzone and Modern Warfare 3
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/the-call-of-duty-ban-wave-continues-as-activision-dishes-out-over-65000-account-bans-across-warzone-and-modern-warfare-3/
After a strange spike in Call of Duty cheaters, Activision is going all-in on account bans, first targeting Warzone cheaters and boosters and now going after Modern Warfare 3, both ranked and non-ranked, to rake up an impressive 65,000 account bans in the last week.

World of Warcraft dev says the game's 500-strong union, spurred on by 2021 controversies, has been aided by the move to Microsoft
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/world-of-warcraft-dev-says-the-game-s-500-strong-union-spurred-on-by-2021-controversies-has-been-aided-by-the-move-to-microsoft/
In case you missed the news, World of Warcraft's development team—which is approximately 500 members strong—formed a union late last month, attached to the Communication Workers of America (CWA).
(...)
According to a new interview from The Gamer with WoW senior producer Samuel Cooper, the change in atmosphere post-acquisition helped those union efforts come to fruition. Microsoft's more pro-union stance helped Cooper and his colleagues feel safe in setting their union in stone: "Legally, a company can't retaliate against you for organising. But that doesn't make it any less scary … It becomes un-scary when you see hundreds of your fellow co-workers out there, side by side with you. And neutrality allowed us to be very visible on campus."

(...)
What was I saying? Oh right, Lae'zel's the best, and it's in no small part down to the stellar voicework by her actor, Devora Wilde. And you know what? It turns out she kind of had the character absolutely nailed right from the start. In a post on Twitter earlier today, Wilde posted the "forty six seconds that changed her life," her "one and only audition" for the role of Lae'zel in BG3 that ended up landing her the part.

Diablo 4 players finally unearth a secret ring they've been looking for since it launched over a year ago—and it's utter trash
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/diablo-4-players-finally-unearth-the-secret-ring-theyve-been-looking-for-since-it-launched-over-a-year-agoand-its-utter-trash/
A group of Diablo 4 treasure seekers, who banded together on the Not Finding A Cow Level Discord, has solved one of the game's longest-running mysteries, uncovering a new event previously only theorised about, and a unique ring that has never dropped before. The short version is: they uncovered an event that rewarded the group with rare Lucky Coins, which they then dropped one-by-one into a wishing well, which sparked a meteor storm before each member received the Ring of Misfortune.

Fallout: New Vegas director on the art of making sure all your points in persuasion aren't wasted: It's 'all about feelings … but you use numbers to arrive at that feeling'

How do you ensure a player's character-building choices feel worthwhile in an RPG, whether they dumped all their points into lockpicking or went heavy on persuasion? Josh Sawyer, seasoned RPG designer and studio design director at Obsidian, says that—like weapon tuning—it's a vibes-based art, but great documentation and a good dataset certainly don't hurt.

Nightingale devs say they're 'not satisfied' with the game, its reception, or its player numbers, but they've got big improvements coming
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/nightingale-devs-say-theyre-not-satisfied-with-the-game-its-reception-or-its-player-numbers-but-theyve-got-big-improvements-coming/
Last week, Inflexion Games published a YouTube video in which CEO Aaron Flynn and art and audio director Neil Thomson assessed the current state of Nightingale and where the studio hopes to take its gaslamp fantasy survival game next. Inflexion's assessment was unconventionally frank: "We are not satisfied with where the game is at, we're not satisfied with the overall sentiment, we're not satisfied with our player numbers," Flynn said.
Despite the video's vaguely uncomfortable air—watching it felt like the two developers were expecting me to scold them—it's admirable for its candor. In updates released since Nightingale's early access debut in February, Flynn says the studio has worked to address the "shortcomings of the experience," adding a much-requested singleplayer mode and a host of quality-of-life updates. To Nightingale's credit, while its Steam rating sits at an overall "Mixed," its recent reviews have come in at a rosier "Mostly Positive."

Final Fantasy 14 hunter spent 3 days collectively losing their minds trying to spawn a monster with sunglasses, mass crying sessions, and alpacas… only to find out they just needed to wait
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/final-fantasy/final-fantasy-14-hunter-spent-3-days-collectively-losing-their-minds-trying-to-spawn-a-monster-with-sunglasses-mass-crying-sessions-and-alpacas-only-to-find-out-they-just-needed-to-wait/
S-Rank hunts in Final Fantasy 14 are funny little things. Each S-Rank monster comes with specific spawn conditions, some of which are awfully niche. Want to spawn Armstrong, a monster from Endwalker? Whack on some gear you pick up from a level 46 quest in A Realm Reborn, die in a specific spot and hope he turns up. Spawning Salt and Light requires you to discard items from your inventory 50 times, a painfully tedious process.
With other bizarre spawn conditions including using Blue Mage's self-destruct spell to KO yourself, crafting a high-quality steak, or flying over spawn points with a specific minion summoned, deciphering how to prompt these foes to appear can be a bit of a task. Thanks to groups of dedicated hunters, these riddles usually get figured out pretty quickly… that is, except for one pesky elite enemy from Dawntrail, the game's latest expansion, which left players utterly stumped for days.

Yakuza producer still won't put Kiryu in a goddamn fighting game, or possibly any future videogame for that matter: 'I think going cross-medium is the better way to go about it'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fighting/yakuza-producer-still-wont-put-kiryu-in-a-goddamn-fighting-game-or-possibly-any-future-videogame-for-that-matter-i-think-going-cross-medium-is-the-better-way-to-go-about-it/
Despite Kazuma Kiryu spending smacking people across the face with his fists and throwing whole-ass motorbikes at them, he's still shied away from guest-starring in any fighting games. That's largely down to original series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi telling Red Bull back in 2020 that he didn't want to see Kiryu attacking any women.
With Nagoshi departing Sega in 2021 and leaving things in the hands of Masayoshi Yokoyama, I've been secretly hoping that the series' new producer would have a different opinion on Kiryu's place in the FGC. Well, he kinda does, but don't get too excited: It's still looking pretty dang unlikely.

It looks like the Ryzen 9000 series is just a more efficient 7000 series with small IPC improvements (5-10%).

Either TSMC is not delivering in the power-performance curves with N5/N4 or AMD overreacted to power consumption concerns (which, given Intel's current woes and how they were burned by FX a decade ago, it's understandable).

Final Fantasy 14 is a load-bearing MMO helping to keep Square Enix profitable
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/final-fantasy-14-is-a-load-bearing-mmo-helping-to-keep-square-enix-profitable/
Square Enix's newest games aren't doing so hot. Without any major releases in the three-month period from April to June, its net sales dropped by 18.4% from the same period last year. Overall, however, the company still made a 250.1% operating profit, largely due to its mobile and MMO games, which means Final Fantasy 14 is one of the main things keeping its "digital entertainment" financials positive.
In its latest earnings report, Square Enix says net sales and profits of its MMO games are one of the only things going up compared to the previous fiscal year. MMOs made up 68.4% of its operating profits, while its mobile games made up 31.1%. Interestingly, these numbers don't even include FF14's latest expansion, Dawntrail, which launched just last month. It seems like the usual lull before an expansion didn't affect the 12-year-old MMO all that much and I wouldn't be surprised if the next quarter sees the profits go up even higher.

This Cyberpunk 2077 Mod disables all the fake lights when using Path Tracing/Ray Tracing
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/this-cyberpunk-2077-mod-disables-all-the-fake-lights-when-using-path-tracing-ray-tracing/
Modder ‘sosuinepsixuyu’ has released a must-have mod for those who play Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing/Ray Tracing. As the title suggests, this mod will disable all the fake lights that are still in the game when using Path Tracing or Ray Tracing. As such, you’ll now get a more realistic look.
Going into more details, this mod turns off the fake lights on advertising billboards. With ray tracing or path tracing (RT/PT), those lights aren’t needed because billboard screens already light up on their own. And, if you use other mods such as this one, you’ll get an even more more realistic look.
Moreover, the mod turns off fake lights on things like doors and windows. These lights were used to make it look like light was coming in from outside. But with Path Tracing and Ray Tracing, you don’t need them. By using RT/PT, you’ll automatically get more realistic lighting effects.
You can go ahead and download the mod from this link. Again, this is only for those who play CP2077 with PT or RT. If you don’t use them, you should NOT install it.

Fallout: London devs are working on a 'HUGE' patch, offering 'dedicated 1-on-1 troubleshooting sessions' to help players with installs and crashes
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/fallout-london-devs-are-working-on-a-huge-patch-offering-dedicated-1-on-1-troubleshooting-sessions-to-help-players-with-installs-and-crashes/
Ambitious full conversion mod Fallout: London finally arrived late last month, and it's a "truly impressive modding achievement" according to our own Joshua Wolens—and he'd know, he lives in the UK and has an accent and everything. The mod can also be a bit difficult to get running smoothly at the moment, unfortunately. As Joshua also said, "it crashes smoother than any Bethesda game I've played."
The developers of Fallout: London, Team FOLON, are aware of the issues and are hard at working fixing them. According to an announcement in the mod's official Discord today, there's a hotfix and a proper patch in the works, and they can even provide direct help to players having trouble getting the mod working.
>> They’ve also done an interview with VG247 talking about the mod is kind of “held together with duct tape”, like most mods.

Silent Hill 4 just got a cool First-Person/Over-The-Shoulder Mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/silent-hill-4-just-got-a-cool-first-person-over-the-shoulder-mod/
Silent Hill fans, here is something special for you today. YouTube’s ‘ZealotTormunds’ has released an amazing mod for Silent Hill 4 that allows you to play it with a first-person or an over-the-should camera. This will completely change the way you played this old SH game. So, don’t sleep on it.
Do note that this mod is only compatible with the GOG version. So no, you won’t be able to use it with the original PC version that came out in 2004.
Once you’ve installed it, you’ll need to press the F1 key to open the mod menu. You should open the menu only while you’re in game, not during menus or cutscenes, otherwise there’s a chance the game will softlock.
The mod currently has a Third-Person Over-The-Should Camera and a First-Person Camera. There is also an experimental FPS uncap setting. However, this setting may result in crashes. There is also a setting that allows you to hide the HUD.
In future versions, the modder plans to increase the camera sensitivity limit to 900, and fix the fog so that it will be set to “normal” after forcing a preset. Moreover, ZealotTormunds will implement a very cheap way to change the hotkey for the menu.
>> The article has a less than 2 minutes trailer of the mod.

Wednesday news, part two:

Descenders Next is the follow-up to my favourite extreme biking sim, but it won't have bikes at launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sports/descenders-next-is-the-follow-up-to-my-favourite-extreme-biking-sim-but-it-wont-have-bikes-at-launch/
One of my favourite PC gaming experiences of recent years is hurtling down Mt Slope in Descenders without falling off my bike in spectacular limb-mangling fashion. It's the perfect "just one more go" game: think Tony Hawk or SSX, but with bikes. The main course was procedurally-generated trick gauntlets, but the sprawling hand-made bike parks—of which there ended up being dozens—grew to be the main course for me. I even quite enjoyed falling off my bike: sometimes my hapless rubbery avatar would go flying miles into the air.
A sequel, Descenders Next, is set to hit Steam and Game Pass in 2025. I was pretty excited about this news until I read the fine print: Descenders Next is an "evolution" of the original that will grow to cater for a whole range of extreme sporting varieties. When it launches it won't even have bikes. Instead, it'll focus on boarding sports: snowboarding and mountainboarding.

A Dead by Daylight and Five Nights at Freddy's collaboration was just announced, something I am shocked has taken this long to happen
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/a-dead-by-daylight-and-five-nights-at-freddys-collaboration-was-just-announced-something-i-am-shocked-has-taken-this-long-to-happen/
If you asked me to name a handful of major horror videogames, Dead by Daylight and Five Nights at Freddy's would undoubtedly be two of the first names to leave my mouth despite never playing either one. The former has cemented itself as one of the most popular asymmetrical multiplayer games, while the latter rewired the brains of teenagers and Twitch streamers alike. Hell, even we scored it 80% in our Five Nights at Freddy's review.
It's surprising, then, that these two juggernauts have somehow failed to cross paths. Until now, that is. As spotted by GamesRadar, a crossover is in the works and is set for sometime next summer. That's an awful lot of notice for a collaboration, and I can't help but think that means something pretty darn big is in the works.

Alan Wake 2 fan notices a sound cue gives the game away about its villain early on, Remedy sound dev gasps 'Finally someone noticed'

Surely the best kind of easter egg is one that gives the whole game away ahead of time, but which you'd never notice on your first time through. Baldur's Gate 3 does it with its music, BioShock did it with its revive system, and, hey, I guess Alan Wake 2 did it as well. Spoilers ahead for, you guessed it, Alan Wake 2.

Bloober Team knows fans don't really trust it with the Silent Hill 2 remake, so it's asking for the next-best thing: 'Give us a chance'

Bloober Team, it's fair to say, is not everyone's cup of tea. Some people like what they do quite a lot, and others, well, not so much. So when Konami announced the Silent Hill 2 remake in 2022, and that Bloober was making it, the reaction was not universally enthusiastic. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno acknowledged the apprehension but said the studio has come a long way over the years and expressed hope that fans will "give us a chance" to prove what it can do.

Once Human is revealing the inner Sims player that even my loud FPS friends have inside them

I'm starting to think I made a mistake by missing the boat on playing Once Human. Because despite its shooter-focused facade, it sure seems like everyone is just spending all their time building houses in this free-to-play survival game. Dammit, I love building houses.

The maker of this beautiful retro city builder wants to include events like bank robberies, police chases, and zombie outbreaks

When I first saw isometric city builder Metropolis 1998 back in January, it shot to the top of my wishlist because it lets you design and decorate every single building in your town. That's awesome. It's also oozing with pixelated charm thanks to the chunky retro graphics, making it feel like a nostalgic throwback but with modern features.
In exciting news for city builder fans, the demo for Metropolis 1998 was just updated to include five whole months of new features, so there's lots more to play with. What's got me especially interested is the development roadmap packed with features that are planned for the 1.0 launch, and some really interesting "aspirations" developer Yesbox Games hopes to include post-1.0.

Helldivers 2's loudest players go nuclear over another unpopular nerf, but Arrowhead CEO keeps calm: 'Some are going 'Buff everything!' Others are saying 'It's too easy!' Most are just playing.'

Helldivers 2 got its biggest update in months today: the Escalation of Freedom patch adds a new highest difficulty (Level 10), a swamp planet biome, new enemy types, and missions. It's a great day to return to what is still easily my game of the year so far, but in the loudest corners of the Helldivers 2 community, conversation around today's update has been dominated by two bullet points in the patch notes. The fan-favorite flamethrower got nerfed, and the subreddit has gone nuclear over it .

I thought Diablo 4 had already evolved into a great action RPG, but its latest season just made it even better

My sorceress isn't even halfway to Diablo 4's max level and she's frying rooms full of monsters with lightning like I was playing an endgame build. After a hugely successful season 4, Blizzard didn't need to reinvent the mucus-slick wheel, but Diablo 4 season 5 frontloads the fun with the most exciting loot drops I've seen in the action RPG, period.

From the few reviews I've been able to read (no videos for me yet), it feels like AMD has been too conservative with the power consumption of these chips, which clearly show in some tests where the 7700X/7600X are faster than the new parts.

Overall and ok product, and a good starting point for those jumping to the AM5 platform if the price is right, but a skip for Zen4 owners.

Here's a review roundup, for those interested: https://videocardz.com/184233/amd-ryzen-7-9700x-and-ryzen-5-9600x-review-roundup

Considering the performance gains of the Ryzen Ai chips over their predecessors, I think power-savings and performance-per-Watt are the main gains of Ryzen 5. If pitted against a 7700 non-X the 9700X wins by about 12% while having pretty much exactly the same power draw.

They remind me a bit of the 4060Ti, which had about the same performance than the 3060Ti, but consumed markedly less power. Great for workstations where this can make a difference of quite some money, and later down the road as chiplets in the EPYC chips, but regular consumers can just as well take a 7700X.
