Granblue Fantasy: Relink has sold over one million units in 12 days
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/granblue-fantasy-relink-one-million-units/
Cygames has announced that its action RPG, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, has sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. The game came out on February 1st, meaning that it took 12 days in order to hit this milestone.
In this RPG, players will form a party of four from a diverse roster of skyfarers and slash, shoot or hex their way to victory. The game has party-based mechanics such as Link Attacks and Chain Bursts to help them crush foes.

A classic RPG Maker engine, the same one used to create Pokémon Uranium, is completely free on Steam this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-classic-rpg-maker-engine-the-same-one-used-to-create-pokemon-uranium-is-completely-free-on-steam-this-week/
There was a time in my early teenagehood where I was so entrenched in anime and JRPG brain rot that I convinced myself I was talented enough to make a game all of my own. That never happened, of course, but the one thing I do remember from that time was how much fun I had poking around in RPG Maker. It's a great little bit of software that's birthed some bangers like Corpse Party, To the Moon and Mad Father. And right now, one of its older versions is totally free on Steam.
RPG Maker XP, the fourth iteration of the toolset, is free to nab until February 19 at 10 AM PST. The deal is on as part of the RPG Maker Festival 2024 and "RPG Maker Day" on February 15, which celebrates the engine and a bunch of neat games that have come out of it.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will soon get a God of War Mod with custom animations
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/grand-theft-auto-5-god-of-war-mod/
Talented modder “JulioNIB” is currently working on a God of War Mod for Grand Theft Auto 5. This mod will feature custom animations for Kratos’ attacks, and you can find below a pre-release video for it.
As you can see, the mod is currently in an early development stage. Despite that, though, it does look cool. From the looks of it, Kratos will be able to combo attack his enemies and vehicles.
(...)
Although there is no ETA on when this mod will come out, its first release will be exclusive to the modder’s Patreons. Contrary to other modders, though, JulioNIB will eventually release it to the public for free. After all, that’s exactly what the modder did for all of his previous mods.

Wednesday news, part two:

After years of anonymity, gaming's least famous but most recognisable voice has broken cover to chat PEGI 18, AI acting, and his €200 paycheque
https://www.pcgamer.com/after-years-of-anonymity-gamings-most-famous-but-least-recognisable-voice-has-broken-cover-to-chat-pegi-18-ai-acting-and-his-euro200-paycheque/
If you've ever watched a game trailer in Europe, you've almost certainly heard Richard Wells' voice. He is, in his own words, "the guy who says 'PEGI 18' on all of your video games," which is to say he's the smooth baritone that lets you know a game's age rating right before its trailer plays; the British equivalent of that ESRB guy who says "product not yet rated" before E3 trailers. He's ubiquitous but—until he became a TikTok sensation—anonymous, and it turns out he only made €200 (£170) for his work.

The majority of non-LGBTQ+ gamers don't care if a main character is trans, according to GLAAD Gaming's debut report
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-majority-of-non-lgbtq-gamers-dont-care-if-a-main-character-is-trans-according-to-glaad-gamings-debut-report/
To accompany the official launch of GLAAD Gaming, the organisation has released its first report on the state of LGBTQ+ gamers in the industry—and it could banish some common assumptions made by the public at-large.

EA and a studio reportedly invested $125 million making a new singleplayer IP with zero microtransactions, no grind, a shorter running time, and guess what: 'No one bought it'
https://www.pcgamer.com/ea-reportedly-invested-dollar125-million-making-a-new-singleplayer-ip-with-zero-microtransactions-no-grind-a-shorter-running-time-and-guess-what-no-one-bought-it/
A new report by IGN into the wider topic of industry layoffs, which are worse than they've ever been, contains a fascinating insight about one of last year's less-successful AAA titles. Immortals of Aveum was the debut title from Ascendant Studios, released on Steam and consoles in August 2022, came out to mixed reviews and largely sank without trace: PCG's review called it a fun magical FPS that "fails to cast any new spells" on the way to a 68% score.

Deus Ex seems deader than ever as Adam Jensen actor reveals Eidos asked him years ago 'to stop talking about Adam Jensen'
https://www.pcgamer.com/deus-ex-seems-deader-than-ever-as-adam-jensen-actor-reveals-eidos-asked-him-years-ago-to-stop-talking-about-adam-jensen/
It hurts to say it, but Deus Ex seems deader than Beth DuClare right now. While I hope the once and future king of immersive sims won't stay down for long, the layoffs at Eidos Montreal and cancellation of an upcoming DX project have made the series' future seem bleaker than ever. But according to Elias Toufexis—the instantly recognisable voice of Human Revolution and Mankind Divided protagonist Adam Jensen—things have been bleak for years now.

This week's Baldur's Gate 3 patch will fix its most annoying little party management inconvenience
https://www.pcgamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-patch-6-party-management/
The next big Baldur's Gate 3 patch is coming this week, and although its kissing-related changes are obviously the star, there's more to it than "improved smooches." Larian announced today that the patch will finally fix a party management inconvenience that I imagine near-universally prompted players to think "ugh, that's slightly annoying" an hour or two into the game.
>> By the way, Hasbro made $90 millions thanks to this game.

World of Warcraft's subscription is about to get almost 3,000% more expensive in Argentina—and it'll 'only get worse with inflation'
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcrafts-subscription-is-about-to-get-almost-3000-more-expensive-in-argentinaand-itll-only-get-worse-with-inflation/
Last month, Argentinian World of Warcraft players found a nasty surprise in their inbox—an email from Blizzard announcing two separate price hikes to their World of Warcraft subscriptions, making the game prohibitively expensive. Firstly, though, some context is in order.

World of Warcraft's lead storyteller quietly left Blizzard last fall: 'I've felt the itch to stretch my creativity in new directions'
https://www.pcgamer.com/steve-danuser-world-of-warcraft-departure/
The World of Warcraft community discovered almost by accident recently that the lead creator of the game's stories has quietly left Blizzard.
Warcraft narrative director Steve Danuser's departure wasn't announced, but rather discovered by fans who noticed an update to his LinkedIn page that sets the end of his Blizzard employment to last November, right around the time of the annual BlizzCon convention in Anaheim.

https://www.pcgamer.com/more-than-20-years-after-its-debut-revered-sci-fi-adventure-the-ur-quan-masters-is-finally-coming-to-steam-next-week/
The Ur-Quan Masters, an open-source remake of the revered sci-fi exploration-adventure Star Control 2, is coming to Steam next week, free for all and with a slightly different title—Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters.

Hearthstone is celebrating 10 years of RNG mayhem with free cards for everyone and a new nostalgia-themed expansion
https://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstone-is-celebrating-10-years-of-rng-mayhem-with-free-cards-for-everyone-and-a-new-nostalgia-themed-expansion/
Can you believe Hearthstone turns ten this year? My bank manager can, because over the course of that decade I could have bought a small car rather than a near-complete card collection, but here we are. This week, Blizzard released a slew of announcements about what to expect from what it has dubbed The Year of the Pegasus. (Fun fact: Pegasus was the game's internal codename during early development.)

Some class-locked portal reskins? That'll be $20, please—Diablo 4's hellish microtransactions continue to sting
https://www.pcgamer.com/some-class-locked-portal-reskins-thatll-be-dollar20-pleasediablo-4s-hellish-microtransactions-continue-to-sting/
Microtransactions in fully-priced games are (unfortunately) here to stay for as long as they keep working—that's a bitter pill I've swallowed at this point, though every now and then something comes along to make it sting all over again. As is the case with Diablo 4's recent "Dark Pathways" pack, which wants you to shell out $20 for some portal reskins (and $10 for some coins).

The patch Diablo 4 players hoped would fix its worst endgame grind hasn't fixed its worst endgame grind
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-patch-diablo-4-players-hoped-would-fix-its-worst-endgame-grind-hasnt-fixed-its-worst-endgame-grind/
Diablo 4's newest patch could've been Blizzard's solution to an endgame that mostly consists of grinding a single boss for the best loot, but it doesn't seem like it went far enough.

Yep, he was very well known and also, and more importantly, liked by everybody.

And ,just for the sake of it, here's a fun fact: one of his trademarks and a reason people liked him was his English accent, which made him more genuine. And so the TV channel he worked for payed him every year to stay one month in England, to protect his accent.

Here’s Skyrim with over 1000 mods and Reshade Ray Tracing, running on an NVIDIA RTX4090 at 4K
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/skyrim-1000-mods-reshade-ray-tracing/
Digital Dreams has shared a new video, showcasing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with over 1000 mods and Reshade Ray Tracing. This video will give you an idea of what a heavily modded version of Skyrim looks like on modern PCs. So, go ahead and take a look at it.
Now what’s great here is that the modder has shared the entire list of mods they have used. And yes, they are indeed over 1000 mods. Moreover, they have used Reshade in order to apply RTGI. This Reshade solution is not as good or polished as native RTGI. Despite that, it can enhance the game’s graphics.
To capture this video, Digital Dreams used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. At Native 4K with all these mods, the RTX 4090 was able to stay above 60fps at all times. Even during combat or in towns, the framerate never dropped below 65fps.

>> There are no screenshots nor videos, obviously, but, strangely enough, the article has the link to the mod.

Helldivers 2 starts recruiting more devs for the war effort after its galactic success, aims to 'accelerate and beef up [its] content plans'
https://www.pcgamer.com/helldivers-2-starts-recruiting-more-devs-for-the-war-effort-after-its-galactic-success-aims-to-accelerate-and-beef-up-its-content-plans/
Helldivers 2, a solid third-person co-op shooter about blasting bugs, has been doing damn well for itself—too well, in fact, slamming right into the ceiling of Steam's global top sellers chart like a kid who didn't expect mentos to mix with coke quite so explosively. As a result, there have been some hefty server and performance issues.
Though given the game's positive reception, none of that's been enough to dampen anyone's enthusiasm. Players are downright patriotic for Helldivers. As a direct result of the game's success, its studio Arrowhead has begun a recruitment drive for more devs—that's according to its CEO Johan Pilestedt on Twitter.

Microsoft Flight Sim's free DLC finally adds what we've all wanted: giant mechanical dragonflies, decolonisation, and the chance to win a magical floating Xbox controller
https://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-flight-sims-free-dlc-finally-adds-what-weve-all-wanted-giant-mechanical-dragonflies-decolonisation-and-the-chance-to-win-a-magical-floating-xbox-controller/
We're all a bit iffy about flying Boeings ever since that plane had its door ripped off, so why not try an alternative? For instance, the gargantuan mechanical dragonflies that dotted the skies above the Butlerian Jihad of 200 BG to 108 BG? Those have so many moving parts that could go horribly wrong that you probably won't even think about the doors.
If you're tempted, then I've got good news: Microsoft Flight Sim's free Dune expansion is out now, bringing the Royal Atreides Ornithopter from those Denis Villeneuve films into the wide, flighty world of the game and giving you a chance to, uh, realistically simulate flying them. Can you realistically simulate a fictional thing? Yes. No further questions, please.

Deep Rock Galactic's first spin-off is out now in Early Access, and it's the best auto-shooter since Vampire Survivors
https://www.pcgamer.com/deep-rock-galactics-first-spin-off-is-out-now-in-early-access-and-its-the-best-autobattler-since-vampire-survivors/
Playing Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor's demo last year, I already felt like I'd discovered a promising vein of gold. Playing a preview of the game's full Early Access build this week has been like digging through and finding a whole glittering cavern of riches. As a big fan of Vampire Survivors-inspired games, I think this is my favourite yet—and it's out today.

My favourite game of 2023 that gave me all the feels is trying to give me, uh, different feels with its giant cosmic dildo
https://www.pcgamer.com/my-favourite-game-of-2023-that-gave-me-all-the-feels-is-trying-to-give-me-uh-different-feels-with-its-giant-cosmic-dildo/
It's Valentine's Day, and what better way to celebrate than trying to win a dildo of cosmic proportions?
I finally got around to playing The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood last month and it's become one of my all-time favourite games. It's gorgeously witchy and ethereal, all the vibes that I bloody love. The art and music are beautiful, I love the DIY tarot card system, and while the story isn't the strongest it was still enough for me to plough through multiple playthroughs and get a couple of tears out of me.

Forget Skull and Bones, there's another pirate game out on Steam this week that's plundered my heart with turn-based naval combat and pirate presidential campaigns

After years of delays, disappointing previews, and a beta our own Tyler Wilde described as "cheesy and unnatural", I think it's fair to say a bit of scepticism about the launch of Skull and Bones this Friday is sensible. Hopefully it is good, but if it does turn out to be a load of old hornswoggle, I think I've at least found an alternative.
Just released on Steam, Tortuga - A Pirate's Tale is a pirate sim that really revels in the details. As a captain out to pull off a historic score by plundering the Spanish treasure fleet, you're free to build up your power by sailing the Caribbean taking down merchant convoys, scrapping with other pirate factions, trading between ports, completing mercenary contracts, and generally making a nautical nuisance of yourself.

Football Manager players are exploiting a bug in its naive AI to buy the best players in history for less than 1% of their value
https://www.pcgamer.com/football-manager-players-are-exploiting-a-bug-in-its-naive-ai-to-buy-the-best-players-in-history-for-less-than-1-of-their-value/
The thing about football (or soccer, for our cross-Atlantic cousins) is that it's just as much about the art of the deal as it is about the art of the beautiful game. The sport's best and brightest are traded between clubs for price tags in the hundreds of millions, and assembling a dream team requires haggling, cajoling, and leveraging whatever angle you have to get the best players at the best price.
Unless you're haggling in Football Manager 2024, that is, in which case it's simply a matter of exploiting the poor AI with a very specific set of contractual terms that it will always, always accept, trading away players who should be worth nine-digit sums for the pittance of €2.5 million.

Palworld dev says talk of player dropoff is 'lazy' and 'it is fine to take breaks from games'
https://www.pcgamer.com/palworld-dev-says-talk-of-player-dropoff-is-lazy-and-it-is-fine-to-take-breaks-from-games/
Palworld is 2024's first surprise hit, combining all the familiar elements of the popular survival genre with an irresistible layer of Pokémon-inspired Pals to do your bidding. It's a game with no firm endpoint but a finite amount of stuff to do, and so unsurprisingly plenty of players picked it up, played it, and moved onto other things.
(...)
The game has been dinged for its player numbers going down when, really, anyone could've seen this was inevitable. Palworld's not an MMO, it's not a live service game, and it's not something like Counter-Strike 2. The criticism seems to have stung one Pocketpair dev, anyway, who has doubtless just enjoyed the busiest month of their entire life.

Now we're looking down the barrel at three more survival games all arriving next week: co-op Victorian gaslamp fantasy Nightingale, singleplayer driving survival game Pacific Drive, and the 1.0 launch of last year's tremendous survival hit Sons of the Forest. Yep. All next week.
