Except for the 14700, thanks to its extra E-cores, the only reason to look forward the 14th Gen CPUs is because it will make the 13th gen ones cheaper. And the same goes for the motherboards.

And that card with those 140mm Noctua fans is incredibly wide. I'm sure the cooling will be great, but it's way overkill.

I find it kind of ironic how people gave Steam shit for years for asset flip games and other garbage. Epic came out claiming they wouldn't allow low tier garbage on their platform, yet not even a full 3 years later they opened their floodgates and now we're seeing NFT/crypto garbage and since they are pushing their Unreal creation tools, ppl are just going to pile more and more crap onto their platform, and they don't care to filter any of it.

It's so weird to see a CEO choosing to take the complete opposite approach as another, thinking their route is the best to take, and yet it's become the worst path to take.

I think EGS in some ways had good ideas but was poorly executed by Timmy and his dumb hubris. At the time, it did feel like Valve was slacking a bit when it came to Steam updates so them taking 30% cut did feel like a bit meh. So the idea that EGS would take a significantly lower cut while providing good enough launcher was fair enough. But then they went the bullshit exclusivity route along with a whole bunch of social media disasters from Timmy not to mention the history of Epic games and their treatment of the PC platform during the "dark" era. On top of that, UE was becoming an engine with increasing bad ports with tons of stuttering as more and more games came out.

But the killing blow is that EGS did light maybe not a fire but more of a warning shot against Valve that they can't really laurels forever even if EGS wasn't strong enough to take them down. Since then Steam has been updating the store/launcher quite frequently with new stuff once or twice a year. And of course, they also came out with the Steam Deck which really solidified their positioning as the defacto store front on PC along with Geforce Now integration. Because if you want to use some other launcher on PC, you will be missing out on quite a lot of features that Steam has along with the ability to play on Steam Deck without some hackery. It's kind of like the Nvidia advantage but for free when it comes to using Steam.

It's like, yes Timmy, pc gamers don't like monopolies but you aren't gonna win over any of them by doing monopolistic nonsense such as paying developers for exclusivity agreements. If you want to topple Valve, you need to win by providing a better experience and feature sets. Not by paying developers to exclude their games from Steam for a limited amount of time since if there is one thing PC gamers are, is they are patient.

SALES /PLAYER COUNT & DEALS

Steam's Top 10

Minecraft is the first videogame ever to sell more than 300 million copies
https://www.pcgamer.com/minecraft-is-the-first-videogame-ever-to-sell-more-than-300-million-copies/
Developer Mojang Studios has announced that Minecraft, first released in early access in 2009, has now sold over 300 million copies worldwide. It is the first individual videogame to hit such a milestone, with its closest rival Grand Theft Auto V languishing behind on a mere 185 million copies (as of August 2023). Other series have sold more over multiple entries (Mario games are estimated to have sold over 800 million), and variations (Tetris on 520 million, 425 million of which are on mobile), but no single game has ever sold as many copies as this.
"As we approach the 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, a milestone no one could have dreamed of when we were all placing our first blocks," said Helen Chiang, head of Mojang Studios.
The news came as part of Minecraft Live, and an accompanying blogpost shared an infographic about an average day in the game: 915 KM traversed on piggyback, 400,000 wolves tamed, 15 million pickaxes crafted, 6.7 million diamonds discovered, 15 million skeletons slain, and 700,000 cakes made.

AMD yeets its latest GPU driver in response to Anti-Lag+ causing bans in Counter-Strike 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-yeets-its-latest-gpu-driver-in-response-to-anti-lag-causing-bans-in-counter-strike-2/
As reported a few days ago, Counter-Strike 2 players using Radeon Anti-Lag+ technology in the latest GPU drivers were finding that it didn't help matters at all. In fact, it resulted in accounts being banned as Valve's anti-cheat system didn't like the latency reduction system. AMD's response to the whole problem? Yank the drivers off the download page.

After saying 'We've been spending way more money than we earn', Epic turns on the money hose to lure game devs into releasing their golden oldies on the Epic Games Store
https://www.pcgamer.com/after-saying-weve-been-spending-way-more-money-than-we-earn-epic-turns-on-the-money-hose-to-lure-game-devs-into-releasing-their-golden-oldies-on-the-epic-games-store/
Epic has announced a foolproof plan to tempt devs and publishers to put their back catalogues onto the Epic Games Store: throw money at them. Announced yesterday, the Now On Epic program will offer game makers (and licence holders) 100% of the revenue generated by older games they put on Epic for the first six months of their time on the store, as opposed to the 88%/12% split that selling games via Epic usually entails.
It's the corollary and the inverse of the Epic First Run program that launched yesterday. That program offers devs six months of 100% revenue from their games so long as they commit to an equal period of Epic Games Store (semi-)exclusivity. Once those six months are up, the revenue split reverts to Epic's usual 88%/12% division.
The Now On Epic program, by contrast, offers a similar deal for games that are already out on non-Epic stores: six months of 100% revenue in return for releasing "a minimum of three products that have been released prior to October 31, 2023," although devs that don't have three products that meet those criteria can just bring over "all products that are live" on other stores instead. The program won't run indefinitely: devs will only be able to enrol in the program until December 31 next year, and the games they're bringing over have to launch before June 30, 2025.

Valve doesn't sell ad space on Steam so it can make room for surprise hits: 'We don't think Steam should be pay-to-win'

As spotted by GamesRadar, the Steamworks Development channel posted a video earlier this month explaining the ins and outs of how games snowball into surprise hits like Dave the Diver—which we gave a smashing 91 back in July.
The talk's given by Erik Peterson of Steam's business team, and it's an enlightening little journey through Steam's design philosophy. "We don't think Steam should be pay-to-win. Not selling ads levels the playing field and makes [its] recommendations better for players."

https://www.pcgamer.com/omni-mans-mortal-kombat-1-trailer-is-a-splatter-filled-gauntlet-of-invincibles-most-harrowing-scenes/
I knew Omni-Man's inclusion in Mortal Kombat 1 was gonna bring back memories—you grab any popular character and throw them into a fighting game, and their moveset's going to be reference-heavy. But NetherRealm really went all out with this one. First, due diligence—if you've not watched it yet, I'm going to run through some major spoilers for Invincible's first season.

Guardians of the Dream, the next major content update for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, will go live on November 7, one week ahead of the launch of Dragonflight season 3.
Also known as patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream will add a new zone called The Emerald Dream—an ancient dimension of Azeroth that has been in the lore for decades—with new quests, creatures, objectives, and other content, and a new public event called The Superbloom, a multi-tiered adventure with new rewards that will have players assisting the ancient Sprucecrown as he tends to the Emerald Dream's world tree. Players will be able to unlock new activities and earn reputation rewards along the new Dream Wardens renown track, and dragonriders will have access to new race courses, glyphs, abilities, customization options, and a brand-new ride: The Faerie Dragon.

Cities: Skylines 2 won't use Steam Workshop for mod sharing
https://www.pcgamer.com/cities-skylines-2-wont-use-steam-workshop-for-mod-sharing/
Cities: Skylines was the antidote to 2013's bungled always-online SimCity reboot. It was a regular old offline, singleplayer game with mod support: hallelujah. From the sounds of it, Cities: Skylines 2 will be just as moddable as the original, but there will be one notable change: You won't be getting your Cities: Skylines 2 mods on Steam Workshop.
In a post on its forums today, Paradox said that the official mod distribution channel for Cities: Skylines will be Paradox Mods, its custom cross-platform mod library. In a related FAQ, it said that Steam Workshop won't be supported.
>> Ironically, this may hurt the game sales more than the botched game release.

Whoops: Blizzard leaked the name of the next Hearthstone expansion on a t-shirt
https://www.pcgamer.com/whoops-blizzard-leaked-the-name-of-the-next-hearthstone-expansion-through-its-own-online-store/
It's not cool when a retailer leak blows a big game announcement. Just ask Bethesda, which saw its surprise Rage 2 announcement spoiled by an errant Walmart Canada listing. (I bet Pete Hines is still steamed about that.) But you know what might be even more frustrating? When your own gear store does it.
That seems to be what's happened with the next Hearthstone expansion: As noticed and captured by Hearthpwn, a t-shirt for something called Hearthstone: Showdown in the Badlands appeared on the official Blizzard store recently.

An early twist in GTA 5 upset the apple cart: One of that game's three protagonists, the psychopathic Trevor, finds a drug-addled Johnny and beats him to death. This has always been an unpopular twist, which perhaps indicates narratively it was a good one (boo!), because as well as the character's death the state he's found in suggests things all went wrong for Johnny after The Lost and the Damned's ending. Players didn't like the fact he was killed, but they especially didn't like the fact he was such a shell of the character we knew.

Until now. GTA Online's Halloween update, just to rub it in for the Red Dead fans, is a four week blowout of new and returning content, including themed events and modes like Alien Survival (last Halloween saw a UFO invasion). One of the major new additions is the organisation Ghosts Exposed, which tasks players with a ghost hunt across Los Santos. There are ten in total that appear at night, and capturing a photograph of each nets you a cash and RP reward.

Arcane is officially canon, and from now on League of Legends lore is going to stop contradicting itself all over the place, says Riot
https://www.pcgamer.com/arcane-is-officially-canon-and-from-now-on-league-of-legends-lore-is-going-to-stop-contradicting-itself-all-over-the-place-say-riot/
Riot's approach to League of Legends lore has always been a bit… flexible. Champion backstories have been repeatedly retconned, and the entire premise of the game has changed a couple of times since launch (remember when it was a literal sport?). More recently, as the Runeterra universe has expanded with books, spin-off games, and the TV show Arcane, inconsistencies have flourished, and it's been increasingly difficult for fans to point to an actual canon.
Well, that's about to change. In a new video, Riot's head of IP creative Laura De Young explains that, going forward, the goal will be to ensure all future League of Legends-related content is canon and fits together, and to resolve inconsistencies wherever possible.

How one gun company partnered with Call of Duty to attract 'young potential shooters'
https://www.pcgamer.com/how-one-gun-company-partnered-with-call-of-duty-to-attract-young-potential-shooters/
It is common knowledge that arms manufacturers and the videogames industry have partnerships and sponsorship deals, with series like Call of Duty sometimes even including gunmakers like Colt in their credits. But we almost never get a glimpse at what these deals involve, both in terms of the finances and the thinking behind marketing real weapons in virtual worlds.

The documents are from the late 2000s and early 2010s, and this tranche relate specifically to 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Final Fantasy 14 players interviewed over 80 of their fellow adventurers to craft a heartwarming first-timer's guide to roleplaying with anxiety
https://www.pcgamer.com/final-fantasy-14-players-interviewed-over-80-of-their-fellow-adventurers-to-craft-a-heartwarming-first-timers-guide-to-roleplaying-with-anxiety/
The roleplay community in Final Fantasy 14 is, simply put, an ocean. It's absolutely massive, comprising several servers, hundreds of night clubs, bars, fight pits, free companies, and homegrown drama. It's big enough that last year, someone thought buying four billboards in California and Texas to advertise their virtual nightclub was a good idea (it wasn't). (...)
As a big ol' nerd and long-time roleplayer myself, getting started can be intimidating for the less socially-inclined adventurers out there. No-one's gonna invite you to anything, you just need to kinda huck yourself into other people's sessions of make-believe and hope you aren't annoying people.
