Ok so I kinda borked my PC last night when I tried the EZ wizard to adjust my DRAM on my bios, needless to say my rig wouldn't start up and kept shutting down =B. In the end I had a US friend who's retired from the military and now spends his time building rigs for friends and folk in general with his free time, he's helped me construct a good build for those new to PC gaming with two builds in total, one in GBP and the other in USD:

GBP: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Xy4qCJ
USD:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HTJ8pg

Both just about go over the £$400 limit but it's what it is for entry level, the builds you guys have so far could easily count for entry/mid level and I wouldn't think we need to create enthusiast builds just yet (don't wanna scare off newbs to high price points =P).

I'll post the specs of your build to make it easier to see:

Component Selection UK   US
    Price Where Price Where
CPU AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler  £24.99 Ebuyer $34.50 Newegg
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard  £37.98 Ebuyer $41.98 Newegg
Memory Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  £58.36 Amazon UK $36.99 Amazon
Storage Seagate Constellation ES.3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  £68.14 Amazon UK $85.99 Amazon
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card  £158.99 Ebuyer $194.99 SuperBiiz
Case Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 MicroATX Mid Tower Case  £29.64 CCL Computers $31.89 Newegg
Power Supply Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  £59.87 Aria PC $44.99 Newegg
  Total: £437.97   $471.33

The build doesn't look bad, but it lacks several parts that we agreed to include liek keyboard & mouse and the OS. And the CPU doesn't have a price.

Also, I know you have problems with your own build, but asking for help? I'm disappointed .

Oooh yeah I still need them at that lol, I'll likely include my Hades mechanical KB since it;s not that expensive and it's a gaming KB at that and the Rock brand series of mouse has decent DPi settings and the required buttons for a gaming mouse with either of them not costing that much either. There is always that other build you could transfer into GBP =P. I was going to ask if you could table it for me and you already read my mind XD.

Oh me I'm pretty stupid when it coems to asking for help lol, I kepty pushing on thinking I could find a resolve and until I actually borked my entire rig did I call for help lol, luckily I got it back to normal and I;m using my regular 8gb kit while I run some mem scan tests on the 16gb kit later on tonight and hand the sticks over to a PC shop I know of tomorrow to have it tested on their benches to see if it's my mobo, if it is my mobo then I can simply save the kit for another future build, if a stick is dead then I'll go for a refund and buy a different kit at the same Mhz as my 8gb one.

Also if anyone wants to hit me up on Skype just msg me on here or any of those clients listed, I do have a headset as well =P.

Well, I made the table to make it easier for the rest XD.

Also, when I said that about looking for help, I was talking about the build not your RAM. Asking for help when you're in trouble is nothing to be ashamed for.

Oh I know, I did ask for some help on that when I was talking about our project and I showed him our sub forum and told him what we were trying to do (which is also why I felt like suggesting we use something like Skype or somewhere where communication can be more instant than timed, I talk to Raven from here and other X1 ppl on Skype in a group chat and some PC dudes I hang with on G+ also talk to me on skype from time to time).

It's not that I get ashamed, it's that I feel I should know better or strive to do better =P, I mean I can feel ahsamed sometimes but I try to feel like I should be doing better. (like last night how I was trying to clear CMOS and felt like a right dunce for not getting it right and just opted to take the BIOS battery out to reset the settings which worked in the end).

Basil, you make one good PC thread outside the sub forum and suddenly you're getting mobbed by the typicals =P.

This is why I don't hold much hope for the site, I mean whatever good news is, it's never going to be objectively or subjectively better than their console of pref or most likely PS4, which is why I honestly dislike how we can't have any good news without being told otherwise.

Just got the new GG of the start of the gen?, it's a super old game.
Getting some JRPG love from devs that are getting to know the platform?: they won't sell much, JRPG's aren't for PC.

That's just a few random types I see thrown around here anyway, I know I sound jaded but I was happy to see Basil's thread and then dismayed to see the usual suspects coming in where I keep getting told by them I have no place coming into, having them decide to come into the thread and decide they can say what's what, I find that just a bit irksome and hypocritical. It's not like we PC users make constant PC only threads outside of this sub forum if at all =/.

Well, I've managed to get my 1,000 € build done. Honestly, I thought it would be a lot easier, and I've been forced to cut some corners.

Damn you HoloDust and your american prices. You're spoiling us

  1,000 € build
Component Model amazon.es alternate
CPU i5-6400 2,7GHz 183,31 € -
CPU COOLER Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo 28,95 € -
MOTHERBOARD ASRock H170 Pro4S 91,22 € -
RAM G.Skill 8GB DDR4-2133 CL15 - 51,90 €

STORAGE

Seagate 1 TB - ST1000DM003 44,75 € -
GPU XFX R9-390P-8DB6 - 349,00 €
CASE Fractal Design CORE 2500 - 56,90 €
PSU Cooler Master Thunder B600 (RS-600) 47,56 € -
OPTICAL DRIVE Samsung SH-224DB 14,20 € -
KEYBOARD Logitech MK270 combo
33,89 € -
MOUSE - - -
WINDOWS Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64bit  96,95 € -
  sub total 540,83 € 457,80 €
  TOTAL 998,63 €
Optional
CONTROLLER Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless adapter 9,30 € -
CONTROLLER Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller - 39,99 €

As you can see, there are a lot of components that are reused. The big changes are:

+New CPU platform: I've gone with an Intel CPU, one of the new Sky Lake processors with a matching motherboard and DDR4 RAM (of which I had to settle with only 8GB )

+Better GPU:  The R9 390 is a great GPU that will surely last until the end of this gen of consoles. I could have gone with a slightly cheaper 970, but the 390 is usually on par with it and the true 8GB of VRAM might come in handly. Also, I don't trust Nvidia. When the 3.5+0.5GB thing was revealed, Nvidia said that it didn't matter because they managed the memory allocation on a game to game basis through the drivers, and after what happened with some game releases and the Kepler drivers, that doesn't inspire confidence.

+New PSU: A 390 needs more power, so a 600W is required.

+Better, wireless, keyboard and mouse.

Please excuse my bad English.

I agree that some guys here are very insecure and attack everything that's different to what they think or support. It's their problem. Luckily I don't get in arguments with them, and when that has happened I simply pay no attention and refuse to answer them because that never works.

I guess it's a side effect of being a sales site. Selling more than the competition, "winning", is what matters to those guys, and anything that can be viewed as  a potential loss of sales and not winning, it a thread that has to be dealt with.

Bah, life will teach them the hard way.

By the way, I've added the mouse and kboard to your build. I don't have Skype so... yeah.

@HoloDust: Thanks for the vid. Both processors are more or less on par. It's a shame that AMD is so behind Intel .

And the next Bristol Ridge won't change that, we'll have to wait until Zen at the end of 2016 or 2017 to see if AMD can get back on track.

I'd personally go with the s1151 build with the i3-6100, even if the B150 chipset is kind of low end.

By the way, you can use the 2TB Hitachi HDD from your 700 build into your 1,000 one. That way you get rid of Seagate for a better (or more reliable) brand that's also cheaper.

Yeah, AMD is really lagging behind...I don't know, maybe DX11 will change few things, I would hate to see them go under.

1150 vs 1151 buillds - I guess I would pick 1151 build as well, 1150 has some better components, but it might be tricky if someone wants an upgrade in 3 or so years.

As for Hitachi, I agree completely - only problem I have with it is 32MB instead of 64MB buffer...but for reliability (IIRC, IBM, and they were one of the most reliable ones, sold their HDD manufacturing to Hitachi quite a few yeas ago) they beat Seagate hands down - honestly, everyone beats Seagate, they are something that I really, really avoid, so I guess even bit slower HDD is better than one that has a lot more chance to die on me.

Oh, and I would drop Optical...sure, some people still use them, but it's been a while since I've seen one in new build - that way you could up that i5 6400 to 6500.

Yeah I guess that is a side effect, I mean for me I do like sales data but I'm not the guy who's going to be there rbeathing down your neck with "my platform is kicking your plats ass and I enjoy that, just letting you know I'll always be better than you", to me I enjoy when devs who have ignored us for years decide to start giving us games we've always wanted for years in more recent times, that's like a universal good thing that does no harm to other folk. I do however find it deliberately harmful when a console user demands a game be made exclusive to their platform and allow for no one else to have the game on their own tells me that they want us all to adhere to their desires and make them feel better about the plastic thought bought into which isn't really a healthy state of mind tbh, I can never get behind that mentality.

Either way the last few years have been good for PC gamers and it's getting better for us by the year anyway.

Thanks for doing that for me btw <3 and it;s no biggie about skype, we could always use other clients or gaming ones.

I've never understood how Seagate, that everybody despises and every report proves that aren't reliable, can still be in the business and do so well. I mean, look at that

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/seagate-3tb-hdds-has-huge-failure-rates.html

That's unacceptable.

As for droping the optical drive, the builds are for the people of this site and (as I've said to Chazore) they will take any excuse to moan about it. That's why we also add keyboard, mouse and the OS, to avoid any source of conflict.

But yes, droping the optical ddrive would allow me to get the better CPU and, with a couple more changes (like going with the cheaped kb+m of the first build and using the 970 instead of the 390), I almost could go for the 16GB of RAM.
