Excited for System Shock 3 - still need to get the first one and play the 2nd one ;p

Hope Psychonauts 2 is successful so Brutal Legend 2 can be made xD

Its amazing TW3 is getting a new expansion after many people praised it for being long on its own right now.

Same, happy with all this recent news and then the fighting games we'll get, despite PC not having an event for news, we definitely got some beefy news and games coming out this yr and the next.

So a while earlier I got a CTD with heroes of the Storm when I tried to play the game followed by a BSOD which said "memory management", I then switched the sticks to two different slots which seemed to work fine. After a while I tried Heroes again and it seemed fine and just as I got into a game VS the AI (because I don't want to crap out on some human players and earn bad rep) it did the same but this BSOD gave me "PFN_list_corrupt".

I swear it's the enw sticks, one of them has to be screwed because my last pair worked a dream on my Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150, my previous RAM kit was 8gb Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600, my current RAM kit being Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866. I honestly don't get how this could possibly be fucked up since PC parts picker is giving me the A-OK and one of my mates suggested it to me since I couldn't acquire the other 16gb kit the other week.

I'm thinking of running mem test on each stick but it;s going to be a pain in the ass to test each stick for 6-8 hrs straight while being able to do nothing, all while on my 2nd to last day off =/.

In case you're wondering here's my current build as things are: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/8r7HCJ

$700 build, I've used PC Partpicker, so different shops:

**build not quoted because it's too long**

@JEMC I really think you need to put some aftermarket CPU cooler there, 6300 stock fan is loud as hell.

I thought about it, but then I'd have to cut corners somewhere else :-/. I still have time to make some minor changes, so I'll take a look into it.

I have to say that you got a nice build. I would also avoid Seagate and, as I said I don't think an i3 will be enough. Besides, the i3-4170 is already "old", replaced by new models on a new socket, so if you don't upgrade soon, you won't find any i5 or i7 compatible chips in a year or two (that's also true for the FX-6300 as AMD is launching the newer AM4 platform next year, but I think that the 6300 will last the whole console generation).

I looked for 4GB variants of the 380 and 960 but they were out of my price range. Still, I think the 280X is a better choice even if it has 1GB less.

I agree, 6300 is really good bang/buck CPU, that was my other choice, I just went with i3 mostly guided by this:

According to guy who made the video, this is 6300@4.5GHz (so overclocked) vs 4130@3.4GHz (stock), and 4170 runs at 3.7GHz stock. I figured they're performing about the same, and i3 IMO has somewhat better upgrade options (popping i5 into the same rig would be quite easy down the line)...anyway, you'll notice that $1000 rig is basically upgrade from $700:

PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($189.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($19.89 @ OutletPC)

Keyboard: HP Wireless Classic Desktop Wireless Standard Keyboard w/Laser Mouse  ($15.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1011.57

Again, slightly above $1000, but if that's the problem i5 4460 is some $15 cheaper for 100MHz less @ core frequency, or slightly cheaper SSD is an option. So, breakdown:

CPU: Solid i5@3.3GHz with Turbo up to 3.7GHz

CPU cooler: again same 212, probably best bang/buck cooler out there (though bit finicky to install, as lot of CM's CPU coolers)

MB: Same Gigabyte Z97 MB

RAM: 2x8GB, G.SKill again due to price, but again 1866 with CAS 9

Storage: Same 2TB Seagate, but with addition of Samsung's SSD as OS drive - sure, there are few somewhat cheaper 240-250GB SSDs out there, but I like EVOs, overall they have excellent performance from tiny to big files. If someone feels SSD is unnecessary, that money can be put into 4690K for overclocking.

GPU: It's 390 or 970 here, but as in previous rig I prefer nVidia due to Gameworks reasons (plus 970 is lighter on PSU)...I would love to put Gigabyte's G1 970 here due to how cool it runs, but it's some $30 pricier than MSI, so that's a no go.

Rest of the rig is same as $700 version.

Here are LGA1151 versions, there are some corners cut compared to LGA1150, but they're more future proof:

@HoloDust: Thanks for the vid. Both processors are more or less on par. It's a shame that AMD is so behind Intel .

And the next Bristol Ridge won't change that, we'll have to wait until Zen at the end of 2016 or 2017 to see if AMD can get back on track.

I'd personally go with the s1151 build with the i3-6100, even if the B150 chipset is kind of low end.

By the way, you can use the 2TB Hitachi HDD from your 700 build into your 1,000 one. That way you get rid of Seagate for a better (or more reliable) brand that's also cheaper.

Ok, I've made a few changes to my build, mainly because focusing on only 1 currency has allowed me to shop in another store. I could use more than two, but I've decided to keep with Amazon and also use Alternate as both shops are present in most european countries. Also, I've checked it and Alternate.es and Alternate.de seem to have the same prices, so I think it's a good choice.

New build:

700 € build
Component Model amazon.es alternate
CPU AMD FX-6300 105,00 €
CPU COOLER Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo 28,95 €
MOTHERBOARD ASUS M5A78L-M (M-ATX) 64,00 €
RAM Crucial 8GB PC3-12800 Kit CL9   39,99 €
STORAGE Seagate 1 TB - ST1000DM003 44,75 €
GPU XFX R9-280X-TDFD   199,90 €
CASE Sharkoon VG5-W (3 fans: 2int-1ex)   36,99 €
PSU Thermaltake TR2 S 500W   44,99 €
OPTICAL DRIVE Samsung SH-224DB 14,20 €
KEYBOARD Logitech Desktop MK120 Mouse and keyboard Combo 20,90 €
MOUSE -
WINDOWS Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64bit  96,95 €

sub total 374,75 € 321,87 €

TOTAL 696,62 €
Optional
CONTROLLER Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless adapter 9,30 €
CONTROLLER Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller   39,99 €

The main differences are a new set of RAM modules and PSU, the case is still the same but it's cheaper on Alternate.

With those changes, I've been able to add a CPU cooler, the same Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo from HoloDust's build, as well as upgrade the GPU to a better 280X.

My 1,000 and 1,300 € builds won't be ready today . I'll try to get them ready during the rest of the week.

VALVE’S MARC LAIDLAW REGARDING HALF LIFE 3’S APPEARANCE IN STEAM DATABASE: “IT AIN’T US”

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/valves-marc-laidlaw-regarding-half-life-3s-appearance-in-steam-database-it-aint-us/

As we’ve already said, the appearance of Half Life 3 in Steam’s database confused us. After all, its title did not include the dash (something that was present in all previous Half Life games). And according to Valve’s Marc Laidlaw, that entry had nothing to do with Valve.

Ok so I kinda borked my PC last night when I tried the EZ wizard to adjust my DRAM on my bios, needless to say my rig wouldn't start up and kept shutting down =B. In the end I had a US friend who's retired from the military and now spends his time building rigs for friends and folk in general with his free time, he's helped me construct a good build for those new to PC gaming with two builds in total, one in GBP and the other in USD:

GBP: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Xy4qCJ
USD:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HTJ8pg

Both just about go over the £$400 limit but it's what it is for entry level, the builds you guys have so far could easily count for entry/mid level and I wouldn't think we need to create enthusiast builds just yet (don't wanna scare off newbs to high price points =P).

HTC'S VIVE VR HEADSET WON'T BE OUT UNTIL APRIL

The HTC Vive VR headset, which was expected to be available commercially in "limited quantities" by the end of 2015, has been pushed back to April of 2016. HTC announced the updated launch window on Facebook, where it said it remains "focused on delivering the very best experience possible for a consumer release."

THE BINDING OF ISAAC: AFTERBIRTH+ ANNOUNCED BY NICALIS

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-binding-of-isaac-afterbirth-announced-by-nicalis/

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth caused quite a stir when it came out in October. It wasn't the DLC itself that caused the uproar, though, but rather the complex ARG it kicked off, which began with what appeared to be a bug that left promised elements of the game inaccessible. Hopefully the launch of the "mini DLC" tentatively entitled Afterbirth+ will go a little more smoothly, or at least make fewer people angry when it rolls out.

BETHESDA OPENS NEW MONTREAL STUDIO

http://www.pcgamer.com/bethesda-opens-new-montreal-studio/

Bethesda has opened a new development studio in Montreal in addition to its present Maryland HQ. As we've come to expect from Bethesda, the announcement was sudden and mysterious, stating that a core team of 40 devs (managed by Yves Lachance, former studio head of Behaviour Interactive) is already in place but without the slightest hint of what they might be developing. I suppose a release headed "Bethesda opens Elder Scrolls 6 studio" would have been a bit much to ask.

I figured since some of you have me on Steam to throw my other clients as well:

Steam - SunStreaker (Artanis avatar)
Origin - Lelouch-x
Battle.net - Rolex#2404
(I'm not using Uplay until Ubisoft sort it out and either take their games off steam or don't force me to use their client when I use Steam to launch my Ubi games).

I play Planetside 2 from time to time though not on the Steam client anymore, play some MC on various vanilla survival servers and recently I;m trying to join a few public Starbound servers since the game just released it;s beefy combat/vehicle update with new weapons, mobs, planet tweaks, quests (too much content to list).

The build doesn't look bad, but it lacks several parts that we agreed to include like keyboard & mouse and the OS. And the CPU doesn't have a price.
